Many of the activities she presents to her students help the students to understand how to apply the mathematics being learned to real life situations and problems. She makes learning both applicable and fun. One particular example that comes to mind is the lock‐box activity. This is an activity where students are attempting to unlock all of the locked boxes, which are contained in one another to obtain clues to unlocking the final lock‐box. This box contains the final piece of information to solve the mathematical puzzle/problem. The students are so immersed in the lock‐box activity to the point they do not realize the level and degree of mathematics involved in the work they are producing. Mrs. Wilson is usually one of the last teachers to leave the school each day. She stays after school to help tutor students needing additional help. She also stays late after school to prepare for upcoming lessons to ensure students will have the best learning experience.
