How to Get the Best Out of This Book e wisdom you read in “ Pockets of Joy” is designed to give you tips on how to have a happier life as well as encourage you to evaluate aspects of your life in order to help you thrive rather than survive. Some people may choose to read one page of “ Pockets of Joy” each week and follow through with my “ ought of the Week” which appears below the quote. is may involve taking a given action or answering a question. Other people may prefer not to follow the book in order but to open the book at the page which falls open for them ie the page they are “guided” to and use that page for their week. Whether you choose one method or the other doesn’t matter. You decide. If you do select the random method, you might like to stick a star in the top right hand corner, when you select a page, so you know which pages you have read. To further bene t from “ Pockets of Joy”, you might like to share the journey with an optimistic and en- thusiastic friend or group of friends such as your Book Club or discussion group. Each person can action the same “ ought of the Week” and then get together later to discuss their personal outcomes. is would then amplify the experience with a happier and more ful lling outcome for everyone. Exploring some of life’s big questions together can be lots of fun and very enlightening. Rather than using scraps of paper for your “ oughts of the Week”, I recommend that you purchase a note- book in your favourite colour and record your answers and ideas, so this valuable information is kept safe for you to return to whenever you choose. I recommend starting a new page for each quote, putting a head- ing and noting the reference page of the quote in Pockets of Joy. You may also like to return to your notes and lists to review your thoughts and add additional notes at a later date. You may not notice at rst, but af- ter a while you will start to see a change in your thoughts and your life and that you are discovering more 5
How to Get the Best Out of This Book and more of your own “Pockets of Joy”. ese are the things that you see, hear, taste, smell or feel that make your heart sing. Many years ago I discovered that reading an inspiring quote before bed served two purposes for me. Firstly, it was a way of turning my brain o at the end of the day so I could relax and stop thinking about the events of that day or my to do list for the next. Secondly, I loved how positive quotes elevated my mood ready for a good night’s sleep, so I could wake up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the new day. e most important thing is to have as much fun as you can with “ Pockets of Joy” and to improve your life along the way. I wish you every success in elevating your happiness until you are soaring on wings of joy.
