Date: December 4, 2017To: City CouncilFrom: Fire Rescue Chief Mike MurphyThrough: Dr. Lee Niblock, City ManagerRe: Fire Rescue Monthly ReportStation 51 • Deangelis Diamond completed the final plans & bid, Staff is prepared to present and request for “Award of Bid” during the December Council meeting. (Bid is attached to the Yellow Sheet) • Staff is finalizing the “Scope of Work” for the $750,000 grant and is waiting on the State to review. • Staff and the City Attorney are still working to resolve our insurance issues. AIG originally scheduled EUO interviews in November but rescheduled them to December due to a conflict.Apparatus • The apparatus committee is reviewing and evaluating multiple apparatus manufacture’s, to present a Tower purchase package by the January meeting.FY17 Fire Rescue Capital Projects 800 MHz Radios –Staff continues programing our new radio platform and anticipates having the system completed by January 1st. Fire Station 50 Renovations • Staff continues to monitor Station 50’s conditions, which will include health & safety issues, functional ability, code compliance and security. • Belfor is in the process of completing minor repairs and a deep cleaning of Station 50. Rescue Tools- A partial order for the Phase 2 purchase (the replacement tools for Engine 51) has been submitted into the PO process. Staff anticipates the completed order placed in January.Off Island Ambulance Response Times Off-Island Ambulance Response TimesThe number of emergency calls for service continues to rise. The chart identifies • Response times over 9 minutesthe response times in excess of 9 minutes for CCEMS Ambulance units that responded October 2017 - 8 Incidentsto 8 emergencies from an off‐Island location. For the month of November 2016 the 22 21 20 20response times were: 17, 16, 9, 9, 10, 21, 9, 20 minutes. Data is generated through 18 16CCEMS’s “Image Trend” reporting system. 17 16 14 12 10 10 8 99 9Seasonal AmbulanceThe part time 12-hour seasonal ambulance (Medic-803) is scheduled to return to the Island on December 1st.Last year, during the month of December, Medic 803 responded to 62 on the Island. Significant Incidents • On Oct 31st, Crews responded to Winterberry & Heathwood for a serious vehicle accident involving a commercial truck and a passenger car. The accident caused road blockage to approx. 2 hrs. • On Nov 2nd, Crews responded to Walker’s Marina for a boat fire in the rack. The fire was contained to just the vessel, thanks to the quick thinking of Walker’s staff. • On Nov 11th, Crews removed a deceased subject from a Goodland area canal. • For the reporting period, Fire Boat Crews responded to 8 MERT incidents. These included- 2 vessels taking on water, 2 stranded Kayakers on Brush Island and 3 subjects (2 kids) floating in a raft 1.5 mile off the Cape Marco beach.Items of Interest • Greater Naples Station 23 remains closed which directly impacts our mutual aid. • On Nov 1st, Fire Department hosted “Leadership Marco” at Sta. 50. • On Nov 4th, Staff assisted “Meals of Hope” in packaging 250,000 meals to feed local children and their families. • On Nov 8th, Staff attended CCEMS quarterly training & QI meeting. • On Nov 9th, Staff attended the County “Building Inoperability Meeting”, to discuss ways to improve radio communication within buildings. • On Nov 11th, Staff attended and assisted in set-up, the Veteran’s Day events. • On Nov 14th, FD hosted a Motorola CAD training @ Station 50. • On Nov 15th, D/C Batiato attended “Leadership Marco” class. • On Nov 16th, Staff attended the County Operations & Communications Meetings. • On Nov 16th , Staff attended the County Data Committee meeting. • On Oct 25th, Staff attended the Collier County Fire Chiefs Association meeting. • On Oct 27th, Staff attended the Executive Chief’s Irma After Action review, hosted by the Sheriff.Public Education • Crews assisted with “Leadership Collier” on October 26th. • Mrs. Cholka brought her class from Lely High School, 10 special needs students, for activities and a Department tour. • On Nov 9th, Staff attended the Veteran’s Day celebration @ Tommie Barfield Elementary. • During the month of October, Staff certified 26 CPR & 16 1st Aid students during 3 classes. (Classes were for Fire Foundation and Girl Scouts) • Our new “Fire Safety House” was delivered on November 14th.
