Date: November 6, 2017To: City CouncilFrom: Fire Rescue Chief Mike MurphyThrough: Gil Polanco, Interim City ManagerRe: Fire Rescue Monthly ReportStation 51 • Staff anticipates presenting the final plans and the request for “Award of Bid” to Council during the December meeting. • Staff received the final reimbursement from the State, $249,865.80, which is the total of the design invoice from Deangelis Diamond. • Staff is finalizing the “Scope of Work” for the $750,000 grant and anticipates presenting it to Council in December. • Staff and the City Attorney are still working to resolve our insurance issues. AIG has scheduled EUO interviews, in November. The Examination Under Oath is a formal proceeding taken before a court reporter and recorded in a verbatim transcript. Every question which is asked and every answer which is given is made a part of the record. When this right is invoked, it is usually near the end of the investigation and is one of the final steps to be completed.FY17 Fire Rescue Capital Projects 800 MHz Radios –Due to Hurricane Irma, Staff placed 12 unit’s in-service in September. The remaining radios are scheduled to be in-service by December 31st. Fire Station 50 Renovations • Staff was unable to meet with Deangelis Diamond in September; however, a meeting is scheduled for November 2nd to discuss the pre-construction/design process. Staff anticipates presenting the initial Station 50 package at the December Council meeting. • Staff continues to monitor Station 50’s conditions, which will include health & safety issues, functional ability, code compliance and security. Rescue Tools- Staff has started the evaluation process in preparation for the FY/18 Phase 2 purchase (the replacement tools for Engine 51). All Phases have been budgeted through the “Bucket Plan”.Significant Incidents • On Oct 3rd, Crews responded to Seaview Ct for a fire in a large construction dumpster. • Crews responded to the south Collier area a subject in cardiac arrest. • Fire Boat Crews responded to 2 MERT related incidents. A 34’ sunken boat at Angler’s Cove dock (no hazards found) and a 42’ boat taking on water 4 miles SW of the Island (4 occupants were removed and returned to Caxambas Park).Items of Interest • On Sept 5th, the Fire Rescue Department’s new Administrative Assistant, Angela Johenning, started her first day. • The County Data Committee meeting scheduled for Sept 20th was canceled. • On Sept 21st, Staff attended the County Operations & Communications Meetings. • On Sept 27th, Staff attended the Collier County Fire Chiefs Association meeting. • On Oct 3rd, Chief Murphy attended the County Executive Chief’s meeting. • On Oct 10th, D/C Batiato attended the Hodges’ (Johnson School of Business) advisory quarterly meeting. • On Oct 11th-13th, Chief Murphy attend the FFC association “Board of Directors” meeting. • On Oct 20th, Staff attend the County EMS committee meeting. • On Oct 21st, was the 5th annual “Chili Cook Off” @ Cj’s on the Bay, honoring our fallen brother Jerry Adams. • On Oct 24th, Chief Murphy & D/C Batiato attended the Collier County Council meeting. Public Education • Crews attended the Truly Nolan safety lunch on September 25th. • City of Marco Island Celebrates FL City Government Week! Oct 26th- Fire Station open house. • During the month of September, Staff certified 21 CPR & 1st Aid students during 2 classes.Fire Rescue / EMS TrainingFire Rescue personnel completed 171 hours of fire rescue training during the month of September detailed asfollows: o Fire Operations 128 hours o Medical 26 hours o Marine Operations 0 hours o Officer training 0 hours o Hazmat 14 hours o Driver training 3 hoursResponse Survey CardsThe Fire Department sends a survey card to individuals who call 911 for an emergency. These cards allow theend user to rate the performance of our personnel, as well as, the Emergency Room care and 911 dispatchsystem. Due to Hurricane Irma, only 9 cards were received for this reporting period.
