1. Collect photographs or paintings of the great monarchs mentioned in the chapter and prepare an album. Write a brief note about each monarch. 2. Find out the present names of the following kingdoms or cities: (a) Kanouj (e) Anga (b) Vatapi (f) Pataliputra (c) Kalinga (g) Kamarupa (d) Avanthi Refer to websites or books in the library. Locate these places in the map of India. 4. Among all the monarchs you read in the chapter, who do you like the most? Why? Write a passage in about 100-150 words. Attach his picture with the write-up. 1. Organise a dress parade of the monarchs in the class. Speak a few lines about the monarch, as if the monarch himself is addressing the audience. Do it as a group activity. 2. Arrange a class presentation. Each group takes up one monarch. Get information about the monarch other than what’s already mentioned in the chapter. Make a presentation on the monarch, and burn it on a CD. 202

Power Point l Click on start click program. l Click on Microsoft Power Point in the program list. l In the Power Point window there is the central part called slide window which displays slides. On the right there are boxes showing format, layout and color. l There is outline window on the left which displays minimized images on the slides. l Below the slide window is the space for adding notes. 204

205 Task: Prepare a presentation on plants. 1. Start Power Point. 2. Choose the layout by clicking on the layout box. 3. Choose color of the slide by clicking on to color box. 4. Choose the font type and size by clicking on to. 5. After completing one slide, click on ‘new slide’ to get a blank slide. Slide 1 : Type the title in 24 or 28 font choose Arial or Times new roman for font for the heading. Slide 2 : Type “Types of Plant” Import Pictures of trees, shrubs and herbs from clipart or CD. Slide 3 : Trees pictures to be imported type names under each. Slide 4 : Import shrubs Type names below each. Slide 5 : Import herbs. Type names below each. Different designs of the slides 1. Open Power Point. 2. Prepare a slide or have a slide already prepared. A slide with text (written matter) is better. To prepare a slide, 1. Type a title 2. Type out a few lines below the title. 3. Click on format on the right. Choose different formats and see which one looks better then click on the chosen format. 4. Format can be changed for different slides. 5. Change colour by selecting the colour from the colour tool on the right of the screen. Picture 207 Changing colour scheme Click on format. Then color scheme from the menu. Click on apply to all. All slides will be the same colour.

Applying colour gradient 1. Click “Fill Effects” 2. Select the gradient slab. Click one colour. 3. Click apply. Changing layout of the slide 1. Click on format. 2. Click on slide layout in format A number of slides appear. Choose the one you prepare and click apply Task : Prepare a text on blue whale(only one slide). Insert a picture of the whale.
