2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) Authors' Presentations Session I Theme: Computer Science Time: 08:00-11:00 Venue: Room 307 Session Chair: Dr. Roselie B. Alday Dr. Anna Liza Ramos P rof. Iglesias Supervised Machine Learning : An approach in predicting the adaptability level of diverse learners Dr. Maryli F. Rosas and Josephine T. Eduardo De La Salle University Dasmarinas 08:00-08:20 Abstract: Educational life worldwide has been shaken by the 1626 closure of schools and universities due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The ripple effects have been felt in the way both teachers and students have adapted to the restrictions imposed by the new form of online education. The study points to the understanding of the demographic profile of the users in terms of age, gender and educational level as well as determining the factors affecting user adaptability. The researchers used the supervised machine learning to predict respondents’ level of adaptability. As a result, the researchers created three (3) scenarios. These three scenarios use the personal demographic profile (age and gender), socio- demographic (financial condition, internet type, and device used) and combination of both. E'Melon: Android-based Watermelon Leaf Disease Detection and Remedy Using Tensorflow's CNN Carl Ohmar Montoya and Nel Panaligan 08:20-08:40 Abstract: CNN is widely used in today’s mobile-based 1795 applications such as image processing and speech recognition. Scaling up the size of datasets and the models trained on them has been responsible for the success. However, investigating the implementation of image classification on a small scale with limited hardware is very difficult. 17
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) Seeing that SVM achieves a higher accuracy with a minimal dataset, it decreases its accuracy when the dataset has been tripled. In addition, traditional watermelon leaf disease detection was found to be a laborious task for the growers. Therefore, researcher aims to develop an android-based watermelon leaf disease detection and remedy using TensorFlow's CNN to help watermelon growers to enhance the image classification using the sequential model and reduce the earlier algorithm's complexity. The applications accuracy resulted in a 4.75 weighted mean described as agreeable from 19 randomly selected evaluators. The applications’ accuracy was based on the system's classifier and affected its result as the classifier needs improvement, though, watermelon experts and farmers agreed with the evaluation results. Web-based Knowledge-Driven Decision Supporty System: A Career Assessment Tool for Incoming Freshmen Students of Mindoro State University Main Campus Cirile Dominic A. Horlador, Harold Y. Bangalisan and Mariz Katrin R. Capon Mindoro State University - Main Campus 08:40-9:00 Abstract: Career Selection is an important activity in 8987 individual’s life (Kumer, 2018). The foundation of career development to the present day is a clear understanding of yourself, aptitudes, abilities, interests, and limitations (Patton, 2014). The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) was desined to measure students in a number of different areas, such as mechanical reasoning, verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning. The presence of an individual’s normality should be considered in career development and can be assessed through the administration of the 16 personality Factor Assessment. Students’ abilities measured through the Multiple Intelligence Survey as research on the application of multiple intelligences has revealed positive psychological benefits. The use of computers in career counseling can facilitate the delivery of the service to the clients. It addresses the need for data assessment including cognitive abilities, interests, and personality. The study aims to integrate assessment tools to come up with a web-based evaluation result that helps the incoming freshmen in selecting a program they should take in MinSCAT. 18
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) The guidance office used it in the conduct of admission tests. The DAT, 16 PF, and Management Information System (MIS) will be utilized to assess the students in relation to their chosen program. The Prototyping Model was used during the development wherein researchers built, tested, and reworked the prototype to achieve the objectives. The system was evaluated by 182 students from different programs, using the ISO 25010 Software Metrics Evaluation, which includes Functional Suitability; Performance Efficiency; Compatibility; Usability; Reliability; and Security. The system was rated Very Acceptable among the different criteria set. During the ealuation, the researchers concluded that the system is useful to students in selecting program offerings based on their abilities, intelligence, and personality. It was recommended that more time should be allotted in taking the assessment. The system must be available on mobile platform to make it more accessible. Virtual Map Identification of Covid-19 Applying Spatial Analysis Nei Balba- Lyceum of the Philippines University Laguna Madelyn Gabion - Diliman College Rejan Tadeo - Universidad de Manila Marmelo Abante - WCC-World Citi Colleges 9:00-9:20 Abstract: This study aimed to determine the spatial analysis of 4657 Covid19 in District 2 of Quezon City. To model, the scenarios of the distribution of the virus on a district scale the online/mobile GIS (Geographical Information System), mapping dashboards, applications for tracking the virus, and numerical methods are used. To visualize and estimate the ongoing pandemic situation, this paper offers and describes GIS methods such as buffer and numerical analysis and the presentation of infected areas via the virtual map. The application and dashboards are receiving data updates in “near-real-time”. The paper also discusses some additional techniques using GIS ways that can support the awareness of how to fight against epidemics and disease outbreaks. This paper can be used to define important measures that need to address and implement to mitigate the implications of Covid-19 successfully. The system was evaluated with the general mean of 4.60 or Strongly Agee which means that the system is very acceptable to the users. 19
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) Graduate School Student Decision Support System for Graduation: A Developement Using Naive Bayes Algorithm Lea P. Ymalay and Simeon J. Cainday III Guimaras State University, Mclain, Buenavista, Guimaras, Philippines 9:20-9:40 Abstract: This study was directed towards the development of 7584 Graduate School Student Decision Support System for Graduation: A Development using Naive Bayes Algorithm for Guimaras State College in Mclain, Buenavista, Guimaras, Philippines. The software was provided with years’ worth of data that include student profiles, masteral profile, comprehensive exam, grades, training, testing, result, f- measure, graph and most importantly grades records as main input. The aforementioned data were gathered, processed, and analyzed in order to come up with reliable forecasts and efficient management of graduate school students records. To realize its primary goal, Bayesian Algorithm was integrated in the system as an enabler for its data analysis component which will forecast the graduation probability of graduate school students. An Image Processing Approach in Counting and Sorting of Chicken Egg Lance Jay Montalban and Ramil Lumauag 08:40-9:00 Abstract: This study aimed to develop and design a 9497 microcontroller device with the integration of a robotic arm and a conveyor using the Arduino that works on image processing based on the algorithm for sorting and counting of chicken eggs. It employs an image processing classification algorithm for detecting cracks, blood spots and dirt, sorting and counting based on determined sizes. The system was piloted in the different egg farms located in the First District of Iloilo primarily in the Department of Agriculture in every municipality. The system was evaluated utilizing 150 chicken egg samples randomly selected and the accuracy (F-measure) and speed (time) was determined. The F-measure using the harmonic mean of precision and recall of 97% yield to the results of precise and accurate classification. The speed of analyzing and counting the chicken egg is 1.8 seconds per egg which implies that the microcontroller device on image processing for counting and sorting of chicken eggs provides an excellent performance. Missing Link Prediction in Social Network using K-NEAREST NEIGHBOR Algorithm Amelita M. De los Reyes 9:00-9:20 Abstract: This study is conducted to explore how K-Nearest 9173 Neighbors (KNN) classification algorithm is used in predicting the missing links in human groups as Complex Systems, A human group comprises several individuals bound together by a common need such as in social media or achieving a common goal (organization, volleyball team or basketball teams). 24
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) As observed these form networks are disintegrated and discarded sometimes in practice. A significant concern, in this case, is link 9:20-9:40 prediction, which aims to determine the possibility of probable 3364 edges or connections from one another in social networks. This is applied in recommending new friends, and, in recommender systems for recommending new items (movies, gadgets, etc) based on earlier shopping history. The KNN was utilized to develop values to establish classification or prediction about the group with computed individual data points to find the nearest neighbor. This classification algorithm essentially includes K-value as most similar instances to a given “unseen” observation using the Euclidean distance method. Modelling the Suitability of Cacao in the Philippines Under Future Climatic Conditions Using Artificial Neural Networks J one C. Getigan, Exceed Renz M. Ramos and Benser Jan P. Villanueva University of Southeastern Philippines Abstract: This paper investigated the effect of climate change in relation with the cacao suitability in the Philippines. The collected climatic data are grouped under near-current periods (1970- 2000), 2030s (2020-2049), and 2050s (2040-2069), where changes in cacao suitability were assessed using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) modelling. 160 ANN configurations are selected and trained on 80% training, 20% testing partition and are validated using Mean Square Error (MSE) and correlation of determination (R2). The best ANN model indicated that the Philippine land index for cacao suitability is between 49.51 to 79.31 for near-current; 48.36 to 75.86 for 2030s and 48.00 to 74.34 for 2050s. This categorizes the suitability class of cacao into marginally suitable (S3) to highly suitable (S1) for the near-current and 2030s periods while dropping to only marginally suitable (S3) to moderately suitable (S2) by 2050s. Specifically, high suitability (S1) areas in the Philippines were projected to decrease from 65,853 km2 (near-current) to 31,357 km2 by 2030s and 23,458 km2 by 2050s; a change of -9.84% and -12.1% for the future periods, respectively. Regions of Luzon (except Palawan), Palawan, Visayas, Western Mindanao and Southern Mindanao were estimated to have decreasing S1 areas primarily attributed to the projected increase in mean and max temperature and rainfall variability by 2030s and 2050s. 25
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) The most pronounced change in suitability index is measured in Western Mindanao with -84.26% followed by Luzon (except Palawan) with -80.18% by the 2050s. In summary, the results indicated that ANN approach for cacao’s land suitability evaluation is notable with the best model having MSE of 3.74-6 and R2 of 0.99981414. Therefore, the study trained 200 different images implementing an Autoencoder VGG-19 model architecture and applied the Pair Mean Square Error (PMSE) to assess the performance of the model based on RGB channel color. Based on the experiment result, the lowest Pair Mean Squared Error (PMSE) score is 4.11%, which provides good results for recolorization for the \"Green\" color channel and a PMSE score of 13.95% considering the RGB channel in one image, in which the \"Red\" color channel performs better in recolorization than the Green and Blue color channels. The findings of this expirement will provide valuable information on the importance of the parameters to be investigated further to ensure that the intended application is accurate , effective, and efficient to use. 10:00-10:20 Classifying Invasive Alien Species in the Philippines Using 3911 Convolutional Neural Networks Rey Alino, Proceso Hernandez and Arvin Diemos Abstract: The proliferation of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in the Philippines is a major threat to its biodiversity. 26
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) Towards reducing such threat, computer vision technology can be applied to collect taxonomic information which may then assist in strategies and plans to fight IAS. This study presents implementations of Resnet18, MobileNetV2 and GoogLeNet, three known convolutional neural network (CNN) models, previously used for other computer vision tasks, for classifying twenty-four (24) IAS in the Philippines (PH). In this interdisciplinary study, a dataset of 2,581 images of 24 invasive species was used. The initial images were obtained from the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and later supplemented by images from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) database, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and Google Images. The images were pre-processed and then used to train the three CNN models to classify the 24 invasive species. We used five-fold cross validation to evaluate the performance of our models. Precision, recall, f1-score and overall accuracy metrics show that the three models can accurately classify the twenty-four IAS PH in our dataset. The top performing model, ResNet18, achieved a 90.8% average accuracy while MobileNetV2 and GoogLeNet achieved average accuracies of 87.4% and 87%, respectively. While ResNet18 had higher average accuracy than the other two models, a one-way analysis of variance test of the accuracies of the three models across the five-fold training and validation runs, however, showed no statistically significant difference. Enhanced Viola-Jones Detection Algorithm in a Mobile-based Drowsiness Detection with Facial Landmarks, Analysis and Detection Marissa Chua, Christine Joy Onquit, Raymond Macatangga, Jeffrey Calim, Gaudencio Jeffrey Romano and Emmanuel Galupo 10:20-10:40 Abstract: Drowsy driving has been one of the major contributing 8235 factors to road-related accidents causing a huge amount of serious injuries, economic damages, and mostly, death. Drowsiness detection using facial landmarks, analysis and detection is the main purpose of this study. In addition, android phones have been pre-installed with important sensors such as GPS that will be of great help in machine learning technology and innovations for developing an android application that will aid drivers while traveling. This paper will use an enhanced Viola Jones detection algorithm using local binary pattern. 27
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) The goal of this paper is to enhance the Viola-Jones Algorithm to be able to detect multi-viewed face. This paper proposes to use a local binary pattern, also known as LBP features, for the angled face detection instead of using haar-like features. The system was tested on variety of conditions such as during the daytime and nighttime, distance and angle of the mobile device from the driver, and facial movements of the driver. In addition, a voice message and alarm will be triggered if the driver is identified drowsy and it will send a SMS notification indicating the driver’s current status and location. Based on the experimental results, the system calculates the percentage of eye closure (PERCLOS) to detect drowsiness. Throughout the experimental evaluation, the accuracy criterion of alarms for both daytime and nighttime got a rate of 100%, while the accuracy criterion of distance and eye types are most accurate if the phone is no more than 9 feet from the face of the driver, and the accuracy criterion of angle are most accurate in 0 to 90 angles using the enhanced Viola Jones algorithm. The reliability criterion indicates whether the application can still detect the driver's drowsiness level after 30 minutes, resulting in a reliability percentage of 100%.. The research result can serve intelligent transportation system, ensure driver safety and reduce the losses caused by drowsy driving. The research findings can be used to improve intelligent transportation systems, ensure driver safety, and reduce losses caused by drowsy driving. 28

Ermita and Domingo V. Origines Jr. Institute of Computing, Engineering, and Technology Abstract: This project presents a Secured Android-based Clinic Reservation System utilizing a one-time password (OTP) derived from a modified Unix timestamp that is used for System Log-in Authentication. 30
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) The OTP was based on the Unix Timestamp for the Clinic Reservation System and will serve as Security Features for 9:00-9:20 Authentication and confirmation of the Patient's Authenticity for 6178 the Clinic Account as well as for the Doctor's Authenticity to the Patient. The Secured Android Application system will generate an OTP Code from the captured length of four (4) UNIX Time Stamps and send it to SMS and the Patient's Gmail account. During the development, an Android Studio as Android Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and Firebase as tools for tracking analytics, reporting and fixing app crashes, and creating marketing and product experiments were utilized. The resistance of the System protocol against impersonation, DOS, forward security, and internal assault has been demonstrated by simulations and tests of the authentication protocol's security. Consequently, employing a Unix timestamp with a length of four as an OTP is a viable and effective strategy because it improved the System's performance and security. In addition, several evaluation tests indicated that the Android application system was running properly. On the Likert scale, the aggregated mean for its functionality is 4.1, which indicates that a given function is stable. Since the source of OTP is the captured running Unix timestamp, which is an entropy-based source of OTP, the created OTP is deterministic. Consequently, with its ability to generate OTP for Security Authentication, it will aid Clinic Management in addressing difficulties with the authenticity of patients, particularly phishing attempts. The Relationship Between Textbooks and Understanding and Using Knowledge in a 2-Credit Introductory Programming Course Natsuko Uchida, Ferris University Yokohama Yasushi Kuno, The University of Electro-Communications Tokyo 9:00-9:20 Abstract: In higher education, students need to learn the basics 8084 of programming and how to use it, considering the continuity of primary and secondary education and its connection to society. However, traditional introductory programming courses for majors not specializing in information did not cover software development. Classes specializing in software development assume that students have already completed an introduction to programming, and we have given up on the idea of including both in a single course. However, we have realized a curriculum that consists of an understanding of programming principles and knowledge of software development projects in 90 minutes and 15 sessions (2-credit) using drawing materials. In the first half of the curriculum, students learn basic programming knowledge, and in the second half, they conduct a software development project in teams based on the knowledge from the first half. In the first half, we want to ensure the early acquisition of basic knowledge in preparation for a smooth transition to the second half of the curriculum. This paper focuses on the first half of the curriculum. And we use code from submitted midterm assignments to assess learners' understanding of control structure and abstraction and its relationship to the textbooks. 38

The pandemic forced a sudden shift in teaching platforms for many teachers that impacted teacher engagement. Central to this platform shift is the Learning Management System (LMS), which became the primary tool in flexible learning. Thus, the need to monitor teachers’ engagement is crucial to determine the effectiveness of the learning experience and the interventions made during the pandemic. However, there is currently a lack of theoretical models and frameworks to guide academic institutions. This paper aims to bridge this gap through a heuristic inquiry approach. Personal reflections on the policies and LMS features were translated into narratives that were validated via researcher triangulation. 40
2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) The findings yielded three key dimensions of policy, universality, and diversity, that shaped the monitoring of teacher engagement. The researchers propose the use of the dimensions of universality features of the LMS. The Monitoring Framework for Teacher LMS Engagement was also developed to guide academic administrators towards effective monitoring. This study contributes to the theoretical gap in e-learning monitoring. Beltran, Julius Cezar N. Jara, James Darrel A.. Parallag, Kimberly B. Ternura, Diane Jenalyn Datul and Jerome Miguel University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao, Mabini St. Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines 08:20-08:40 Abstract: Emergency scenarios are unpredictable; therefore, 9314 communication is critical for the rescue team and victims during disasters or accidents. Currently, in Tuguegarao City, emergency response institutions provide only hotlines or cell phone numbers to reach in an emergency. This technique is inadequate, mainly if a victim's rescuer is not nearby or unattended. The developers created a Rescue Alert Emergency System in Tuguegarao City to provide emergency response services to people in accidents, fires, floods, earthquakes, and crime. The system stores, manages, archives, and retrieves user and emergency report information for the managing institution and users. For the interactive and responsive performances of the system, the developers pursued the Evolutionary Prototyping Model; Laravel was utilized for the front-end and back-end development, and PhpMyAdmin for database development. 42

2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) 9:00-9:20 Managing Student Information Using Data-Driven Graphical 825 Reporting Jasmin Jeanette C. Mama and Rohma S. Carim 9:20-9:40 Mindanao State University, Marawi City, Philippines 1984 Abstract: Today, data-driven decision support is used for various purposes, including operational and strategic business intelligence queries, static and real-time performance monitoring, and customer relationship management. In an era of big data, becoming a graphical reporting organization has become vital for universities to become data-driven; data primarily support the decisions made. To achieve this, universities need to restructure their databases and store them in a connected data warehouse. Graphical reports, also called visual depictions, use graphic elements to make the report data more visually appealing and enhance usability by displaying data graphically in chart formats. The regular use of spreadsheets in sorting through countless numbers of data can be confusing, not to mention time-consuming. It is a struggle to provide quick and real-time, meaningful reporting. Using data- driven graphical reporting will improve and speed up the decision-making process and contribute to better performance. Stuck in Limbo: A 3D Animated Short Film R aymond S. Macatangga, Jesper M. Dela Cruz, Londren U. Velasco, David A. D'Angelo and Ryann Randolf V. Santos Our Lady of Fatima University, Philippines Abstract: This short 3D animated film with the theme “finding your purpose in life”. It is inspired by the passions such as gaming and experiences of the proponents themselves and structured after the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The idea to create this project originated from two (2) questions which are: “Who am I now?” and “what am I doing with my life”. The lack of answer to these questions is what the proponents perceive as “Limbo” or simply a place in your life where you got stuck. It is a metaphor really and the word itself may also mean the realm between life and death. Using the 3d animation software Blender, the proponents intend to provide their own answers to these questions in a creative and interesting way that would help connect others to relate their own experiences and escape their own “Limbo”. 44

Sab't Board Game - The Epic Tale of Darangen S.B Gulam Faculty of Department of Computing Sciences, Mindanao State University - Marawi, Philippines Abstract: The Epic Darangen is a folktale that talks about the Meranaw people. It is a folktale that spans over eight volumes. It has been translated into several languages. The concept of the folktale revolves around the use of traditional storytelling techniques to provide solutions to various social issues. In his book, Mamitua Saber shows how the Moro people have maintained an extravagant lifestyle despite the influence of Western culture. This lifestyle is considered the highest civilization in the Philippines. However, as time passes, the Meranaw culture is not being patronized by the young generation. One of the main factors that affect the culture's stability is the continuous loss of the popular Meranaw literature. Young people today have a mixture of cognitive abilities different from those of their predecessors. One better way to meet digital natives in their native languages is to learn through digital games. Sab't board game – 47

2022 International Conference on Information Technology Education (ICITE 2022) Authors' Presentations Session VI Theme: Online Time: 08:00-11:20 Venue: Room 313 Session Chair: Prof. Jarek Cabautan Dr. Gilbert Tumibay Neural Network Approach Model for Bivalve Classification A lme Maravillas, Larmie Feliscuzo and James Arnold Norga 08:00-08:20 Abstract: The classification of marine organisms such as 955 bivalves is essential to understanding the components of biodiversity, their conservation, and sustainable use. Bivalves play a vital role in the coastal ecosystem and constitute a significant food source and livelihood. However, the bivalve species are the most highly gleaned in the coastal ecosystem under the shade of endangered species. Hence, this study aims to classify the marine bivalves found in the Northwestern part of Bohol. The second objective of this study is to integrate the model into an application. This could help to provide awareness to the community, specifically on the bivalves that are highly threatened and endangered species. Various images of bivalves were collected from the coastal area in the Northern part of Bohol, Philippines. After the data collection, image preprocessing techniques were used to improve the efficiency of the model. In the experimentation, three deep learning methods such as MobileNetv2, EfficientNetB4, and ResNet50 Architecture were used to create the neural network model for the classification. Results from the experimentation show that EfficientNetB4 achieves higher accuracy in the classification of bivalves. The implemented model achieves 97.29% classification accuracy, recall rate of 97%, 97.46%, and 97.025% for the recall and F1- score, which shows clearly that CNN can extract essential features and classify bivalves from images taken in the natural environment. 49
