Getting a colon cancer screening test could save your life. Or visit www.sfgie.com. The American College of Gastroenterology recommends a colonoscopy as the preferred method of screening. This test can detect cancer or polyps at a high rate, and also allows for removal of most polyps at the time of the procedure. It is currently recommended that patients begin screening examinations at the age of 50 if they are at average risk, or begin earlier if they are at 'higher risk' (i.e. a family history of colon cancer or polyps.) Work schedules can make it difficult to schedule a weekday colonoscopy. If you have put it off because of your job schedule, Saint Francis has the answer. Saint Francis GI Endoscopy Center on Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor now offers screening colonoscopies on Saturdays! You will be asked to fill out a medical history form and, if clinically appropriate, you will be directly scheduled for your screening colonoscopy without a prior office consultation.
