Creativity is not the domain of one single person. Through free association of thoughts and brainstorming, an accidental suggestion can be the best solution. Brainstorming is a quite common term that you have probably come across multiple times in your class from your teachers while attending classes via the LMS. It is a group activity that allows students to give critical thought to certain topics or questions posed to them by their educators in the class. Brainstorming, as the name suggests, is all about offering fodder to your brain so that you can sharpen your logical and analytical skills. When you start brainstorming ideas, there will be a constant flow of new conceptions to the topic on which you had based your thoughts. No other activity is as brain-stimulating as this activity! To bring out your thoughts and ideas, you may resort to writing, mind mapping, drawing flowcharting, listing, and so on. The basis of brainstorming can be anything. For instance, it can be an open-ended question, riddle-based question, or questions involving Higher Order Thinking Skills, or they may be asked to submit tricky maths puzzles with answers. This blog post will address the several benefits that brainstorming has to offer to the students. Come, let’s unravel these together! Benefits Of Brainstorming For Students #1: Ensures An All-Encompassing Involvement In The Class Activities Almost in every class, it is a common scenario for some students to stay inactive and unresponsive. What better way of making them participate in class than to pose brainstorming questions to them? With the address of a logical question to the entire class, it can be said with a great degree of certainty that, the student’s interests will be sparked and they will enthusiastically participate to collaborate with their peers and come up with responses. In this way, they will learn the value of teamwork and come up with great ideas and solutions after lots of deliberation and discussion. #2: Leads To Acceptance Of Everyone’s Perspectives And Opinions Brainstorming makes the students come up with their independent ideas. The teacher’s role in accepting the various responses and thoughts of the students gives a boost to the courage and confidence of the students. As a result, they become more open and active in the classes. The fact that the students’ viewpoints would be taken into consideration without the teachers judging them gives them the freedom and relief to let out their honest thoughts and perceptions. Thus, the students emerge to be individuals having an independent way of thinking and will be daunting enough to express their approaches.

#3: Makes The Students Enjoy Brainstorming As It Is Not A Complex Thing To Do Students would find brainstorming an easy and enjoyable thing to do because all they have to do is make a statement or topic into consideration and use their brains to come up with a solution. This activity leads to the formation of an enriching learning experience in the classroom as the students get to develop their problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical and decision-making skills. How To Conduct A Brainstorming Session? Teachers may find it hard to understand the nitty-gritty of conducting a brainstorming session. The following tips will prove to be helpful for educators to organize a successful brainstorming session. ● Firstly, select a student as the leader of a group of students. ● Assign the topic of discussion for brainstorming to the students and specify certain rules for the session, if you want. ● Commence the brainstorming session and ask the leader of the group to keep a record of the responses and viewpoints of each student. ● Once the brainstorming session gets over, the discussion of the ideas in front of the teacher has to be initiated. ● The teachers need to be open to views and create a friendly and supportive environment so that the students can freely discuss their ideas and opinions without getting the fear of being judged. Final Thoughts While initiating the brainstorming sessions, the teachers’ aim has to be the creation of an all- inclusive learning environment. This is a crucial activity to engage the students in because they gain an insight into the given topic of discussion and utilise their logical thinking capabilities to come to conclusions. After all, the conditioning of the brain of the students is essential in bringing about their development in the best way possible.
