Alicante is the province with the highest number of restaurants with Michelin Stars in the whole of the Valencian community and among the highest in Spain. Simple, low-cost rustic dining is also found everywhere across the region and we’ll be sure to share our favourite places with you whilst we are showing you the area when you visit, but for now let’s celebrate some of those special, incredible restaurants for culinary and sensorial experiences that will remain in the memory for a long time. Quique Dacosta is the star chef adopted into the Valencian community. His artisanal skills are inspired by French gastronomy but executed with the charisma of Valencia, Alicante, and Castellon. His Michelin Star restaurant in Valencia received an esteemed three stars in 2017. It is located between Alicante and Valencia in the small town of Dénia. If you’re looking for incredible exposure to some of the best food in Valencia, this is the place for you. As far as ratings go, Quique Dacosta is the most prestigious exhibit of Valencian gastronomy, and deemed the best restaurant in Valencia. BonAmb offers gastronomic tradition and history straight out of Xàbia and La Marina Alta. This restaurant likes to show its humble beginnings, evolving them and taking them to the greatest heights possible. For this reason they use local, artisanal products to transmit their regional essence, with the same thoughtfulness in each plate. Not to mention, the setting is right out of a dream! L’Escaleta was born out of a family dream- but little by little, it made a name for itself in the region until it became a recognised restaurant in Spain. This restaurant has a unique identity based on the flavours of the land. They execute this without copying the same foods on everyone else’s tables. They always bring something new and unique to their dishes! A cuisine thats thought-out, soothing, intimate, recognisable, and familiar- with a bit of a twist. Perched on a hill, Orobianco is famous for its unopposed views of the Mediterranean and the “Peñón de Ifach”, a huge limestone outcrop on the coast of the city of Calpe. This gastronomic gem of Alicante is the only Italian restaurant in Spain with a Michelin star. Their food is based in traditional Italian cuisine- but using reinvented ingredients. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant in Alicante, this is without a doubt one of the best. With its subtle cuisine, made impecable and refined by María José San Román, Monastrell is one of the best restaurants in Alicante. San Román tries to invigorate and uplift Mediterranean roots in this food. Saffron, rice, extra-virgin olive oil, and bread (which they make in house) are all created through their collective culinary vision. This restaurant with a Michelin Star in Alicante will not disappoint. We pinky promise. Susi Díaz is the owner and chef of La Finca. Since a very young age, she has been interested in cooking thanks to her two grandmothers. Without going to cooking school, she has obtained a lot of professional prestige and recognition of international critics. La Finca’s menu is characterised by citrus, aromatic herbs, and flowers cultivated in their own garden. All of these ingredients are used to accompany indigenous fish and seafood.

THE BEACH REVIEW The Costa Blanca is not white but blue. Blue in the colour of the flags by its beaches, blue in its 124 miles of Mediterranean coastline and blue the in sky above, which is sunny and clear for 320 days of the year. There are more than 170 beaches to choose from; sandy or pebbly, hidden in tiny coves, covered by dunes, next to pine forests or under rocky cliffs. How do you choose? It depends on what you want to do. Best beach for families Benidorm is famous around the world – but it is remarkable how many have the wrong idea. Its high-rise towers are visible for miles but this city by the sea has entertained millions for decades. Levante and Poniente are the main blue-flag beaches, separated by the charming old town, which juts out between the two. Both are excellent for families, with play parks on the sand, showers and even a beach library. Smaller Mal Pas is the place to escape the crowds, tucked beneath a cliff and quiet save for the odd volleyball game. Nearby Finestrat has a little hidden cove, while further south, the former fishing village of La Vila Joiosa adds another five blue flags. Base yourself around Benidorm and enjoy the water park, Aqualandia, animal park Terra Natura and the white-knuckle rides at Terra Mítica. Best beach for activities If you can do it on the water, you can do it on the Costa Blanca. Sailing is one of the most popular water sports in the region, thanks to the 25 yacht clubs and sailing schools that dotted along the coast. Try the Club Nautico in Altea, or the Alicante Sailing School. If you have your own yacht, 10,000 berths are available at well-equipped marinas. Windsurfers and kite surfers also take advantage of the reliable wind, but without a breeze, sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding can easily be arranged, even in the smaller resorts. Beneath the surface, the protected marine reserve of Tabarca and the marine reserve of the Cape of San Antonio, located between Dénia and Javea, offer scuba divers a privileged glimpse at the Mediterranean’s beautiful flora and fauna. Best beach for escaping the crowds In some ways, the north of the Costa Blanca couldn’t be more different from the south: quieter and greener, the small city of Dénia has four wonderfully unspoiled beaches: Les Bovetes, Les Marines, Molins and Punta Raset, still rather wild and best known for their marine life and protected sea beds. Xàbia, separated from Dénia by the Montgó Natural Park, also has several quiet beaches, including La Grava, L’Arenal and La Granadella, situated under the cliffs and looking directly out to the Balearic Islands. From here down to Calpe further south, the beaches feel a little like their Ibizan counterparts, a string of little coves giving way to clear blue sea. Try La Fustera, along the Benissa coast, or El Altet, Carabassí and Les Pesqueres-El Rebollo, near Elche.
