PROJECT REPORT IT IS TIME TO RECYCLE AND BE DIGITAL PROJECT REPORT

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF OUR PROJECT  The project aims at helping students to practice the English language and become aware of the endless possibilities of recycling and the need of a sustainable approach both in the physical and digital environment while interacting with students from other European countries. The project will combine both online and offline work as the partners together with their students will meet online several times in order to present themselves to discuss the activities of the project and their achievements, to learn about to teach eachother different web 2.0. tools; the offline part consists of various activities such as creating an e-guide of the products they will create, working in mixed country teams and preparing presentations of different web 2.0. tools to introduce their project partners.

HOW DID OUR STUDENTS REACH The PROJECT GOALS?  The students used English for meaningful communication while participating in several Zoom meetings where they had the chance to talk about their schools and their peers, they participated in Webinars on sustainable living, e-safety and the use of digital tools. They were also evaluated with online tools such as Kahoot and Quizizz. Therefore, students were able to enrich their vocabulary with words connected to environmental and digital topic. They also used the vocabulary acquired to created presentations, slogans and visualized dialogues. Apart the use of English, their assertiveness and self confidence also improved through the implementation of the project activities.

 Our project focused on two main aspects: environmental awareness and digital literacy  Concerning environmental awareness, one of the main activities of our project was the creation of an e- guide of Innovative recycling and upcycling ideas. The book contains three sections: paper, packages and textiles week.  In order to enhance the students experience and to allow them to benefit of this multicultural educational experience we had a live seminar about the 3R's and sustainable lifestyle habits.

 We divided into two mixed country teams and each team voted for a set of web tools that would be researched and used by the students.

THROUGHOUT THEY ALSO LEARNT HOW TO USE TWINSPACE They shared their works on materials during Zoom sessions and expressed their opinions on others’ works. They also presented their works, joined discussions on forum section.

SKILLS DEVELOPED DURING THE PROJECT  • Using English for meaningful communication;  •Developing assertiveness and confidence in students' ability to use language;  •Raising awareness of the environmental issues the planet is facing;  •Developing innovative recycling habits to the students involved in the project;  • Development of students' social skills by letting them work in pairs and teams;  •Development of students’ digital skills by using simple ICT tools;  •Enhancing students’ intrinsic motivation by supporting their curiosity 

THE STUDENTS AND THE TEACHERS USED THE INTERNET SAFELY AND CONSCIOUSLY  They never used personal information, profile photos or their full names during project. They used avatars to introduce themselves. The photos and videos of students were always blurred or masked. They always respected others’ rights or personality throughout the project. They were always aware of copyright issues and used Canva Class collaboratively with their students. And they learnt safe and critical use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for work, leisure and communication. At the beginning of the project, all of the project participants organised esafety awareness campaigns and celebrated Safer Internet Day at their schools.

THE STUDENTS IMPROVED THEIR MOTHER TONGUE AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS ENRICHED THEIR VOCABULARY KNOWLEDGE IN ENGLISH  The students always used English in their project activities. They prepared presentations and presented them in English, discussed on forum section and commented on the twinspace. They prepared posters, took videos, wrote stories and poems, prepared comics in English. They always communicated with their partners, expressed their opinions on others’ works in English. They worked collaboratively for our online glossary, common story book, common products of the Teams by using English. They joined interactive games, challenges, quizzes and surveys created in English. So they learnt to learn, social and civic competences, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship. They learnt how to obtain, evaluate, store, produce, present and exchange information and to communicate and participate in collaborative networks over the Internet.

THEY GAINED MORE SELF-CONFIDENCE IN COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION WITH OTHERS  Our pupils met online with their project friends to introduce themselves, presented their studies, had the chance to evaulate the process and the results of our project. We provided them chance to express themselves in our meetings. They also kept in touch with their partners on forum section and project diary. Our students participated in the preparation of our common and collaborative works actively. We always took their ideas for our project events. They chose the topic they would study, prepared their suggestions for our logo and poster competitions, prepared their own slogan posters, presentations, videos etc. via various kinds of web2.0 tools which can clearly be seen in our Twinspace, prepared their own cartoons on Pixton or other web tools.

 With this project, our aim was to raise awareness related to the environmental problems our planet is facing and the numerous solution that are at hand to everyone, especially to children who have the power to make a change for the better in the near future. Since we are living in a digital era, it is essential for students to master technological and digital skills that can help them convey and acquire information related to their topics of interest. So, we decided to merge the two themes in this project and help our students produce, present and exchange digital products, learn the necessary vocabulary about sustainability and some basic web 2.0 tools, communicate and make presentations in a foreign language, gain social and civic competences and participate in collaborative networks over the Internet. The activities of the project helped them to improve their problem- solving, collaboration, creativity, communication, analytic thinking, ethics, action and accountability skills. This project also helped our students to improve their multilingual, personal, social and learning to learn, citizenship, entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and expression, digital and literacy competences.

When we compare the two surveys, they gave different answers to the parallel questions of our pre and post surveys. This improvement shows our Project’s success and we can proudly say that we reached our goals.
