Lesson-3 Uses of plants

• Plants are useful to us in many ways. They gives us food, medicines, rubber, gum, fibers, oils, perfumes, wood etc. So plants paly a very important role in our day-to-day life.

Uses of Plants 1. Food We get most of our food from plants. We eat different parts of a plant. • Roots We eat roots of some plants. We eat root of Radish, Carrot, Sweet potato, beet root.

We eat roots of:- 1. Radish 2. Sweet potato 3. Beet root 4. Carrot

Fruits We eat fruits of some plants.

Stem We eat stem of some plants. Some plants have underground stem. 1.Sugar cane 2. Garlic 3. Ginger

Leaves We eat leaves of some plants like Cabbage, Spinach, Coriander

Flower We eat flower of some plants like Cauliflower, Broccoli,

Seeds We eat seed of some plants like Peas, Bean, Gram, Soybean

The seeds of some plants are known as grains. Maize, Paddy, Wheat, Millet

Oil We get edible oil from seeds of some plants like Mustard, Sunflower, Soybean, groundnuts etc.

Spices We get species from some plants. We add them to our food to make it tastier. 1. Turmeric 2. Black pepper 3.Clove

We get tea and coffee from Plants. Tea is made from tea leaves Coffee is made from coffee seeds.

We get chocolate from cocao seeds. We get sugar from sugarcane. Cocao Chocolate

Mint is used to treat stomach ache. Basil is used to treat cough and cold. Neem is used to make soap ad toothpaste. Aelovera is used to make creams.
