A LandevCeomlbisnation CoursesA-Levels are a traditional academic route for those intending to go on to Higher Education oremployment which requires evidence of a student’s ability to study at an advanced level (A-Levels). Youmay be aware that the Government has recently reformed the structure of A-Levels with changes beingphased in over the next three years.Due to the changes in A-Level structure many institutions have been asking whether students shouldstudy three A-Levels or four. At St Vincent Sixth Form College we believe that the question should not beabout the number of A-Levels students study. Rather, we will look at where each student wants to be intwo years’ time and from this we will build a Study Programme designed to support their progression andfuture aspirations. For the majority of students, three A-Levels will achieve this; for some students four A-Levels will bebeneficial. We will discuss this with you in more detail at enrolment and ensure you are provided withthe information, advice and guidance to make an informed decision about the best number of A-Levels tostudy. To study an A-Level Programme you will need five GCSEs at grades A* to C, with some subjects havingadditional entry criteria (please see subject descriptions). For Maths and English Progress 8 Levels 5-8 arethe equivalent to this (Level 4 may be considered).A unique feature of our provision is that you can choose to select a full A-Level programme, oryou can choose to study a combination of A-Level and BTEC/Vocational qualifications.
