10 inside FEBRUARY2015 Transport Manager Garry Sumners Our talent search goes online A revamped Graduate Programme launches this year to make sure we’re attracting the talent we need to help us grow the business with our new Focus + Excellence strategy. The HR Resourcing team behind the redesign, which includes a new website at http://uk.graduates.kuehne-nagel.com, has been assessing candidates since applications closed in January. The first graduates will start the two-year scheme in September. Collaboration pays off as revamped team seals ‘potentially massive win’ It’s full speed ahead for Garry Sumners’ Value Added Services (VAS) Transport team – as well as a growing external business, their efficient service is also winning more internal clients. “There’s considerable opportunity for us to do more collaboration within KN along with the collections and deliveries we provide for our outside customers,” says Garry, who’s revamped his 18-strong fleet over the past year with new drivers and vehicles. Transport Manager Garry, his drivers and an office team of four are based at Draycott, near Derby. “One of our recent internal wins is work for Matt Paxton’s Leicester branch of KN Overland,” says Garry, who has been visiting Overland offices promoting his service. “In fact, it’s potentially a massive win as we’ve also collaborated on finding one of our customers, Kettle Foods, an international solution with Matt.” Matt says negotiations with the food manufacturer are progressing well. “Now I know Garry’s team, I give them first refusal on any ad hoc UK work from our Overland customers,” says Matt, who previously only used third-party couriers. “We’re trying to be reciprocal whenever we can to help our customers, and to keep money within the business.”Matt Paxton
