CLIF BAR 16 MAY 2019

We’re working to run a different kind of company: the kind of place we’d like to work, that makes the kind of food we’d like to eat, and that strives for a healthier, more sustainable world — the kind of world we’d like to pass on to our children. — KIT CRAWFORD, OWNER AND CO-CEO

Clif Bar aspires to build a resilient CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN company, investing for the long-term. PEOPLE To integrate this aspiration into the CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN site, the Aspiration Plaza reinforces and explains to visitors that Clif Bar is more COMMUNITY than a business, but an organization that is worried more about the bottom lines. CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN Clif Bar has five bottom lines that seek to integrate many perspectives into how PLANET the business is a “success”. The business is expanding but through the lens of the CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN Brand, People, Communities, and the MASTER PLAN Planet. 8 THE CLIF STORE The Retail Space offers shelter to visitors at times of inclement weather. It should be light, bright, and welcoming while providing shade and wind protection. Here visitors can stop out of the weather, sample, and purchase Clif Bar products, ingredients and swag. Surrounding landscape, benches, art, and design should reflect Clif Bar’s scrappy aesthetic. The building should have enough glass and light so that at early morning and twilight the building glows for enhanced wayfinding.

9 SUSTAINING OUR BRANDS The Bakery site exemplifies the Clif Bar Brand identity throughout the site through a welcoming retail space and distinctive wayfinding and interpretive signage. The site elements reinforce integrity, quality and authenticity of the Clif Bar brand. To highlight this effect, we propose a spiral branch of the fitness trail that slowly climbs clockwise and terminates at a lookout point which overlooks the wave garden an directs the view towards the mountain range to the southeast. This is a relatively inexpensive way to make use of a few acres of the site and to provide interest to the users of the fitness trail as well as providing a visually interesting element from the east edge of the site. 24 COMMUNITY: PATH NETWORK / DISC GOLF / PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE / FITNESS CIRCUIT FITNESS TRAIL Because the overall site is nearly 90 acres, there is an opportunity to provide a significant pathway that can be used for running, biking or walking. The concept is that the pathway will meander around the entire site and will connect all the different site amenities together. Groves of trees and changes in elevation will provide changes of scenery and different levels of activity from very active to very solitary. This will allow the users of the pathway to experience and gravitate to the types of activities and level of interaction that suits them. Along the pathway are exercise stations that provide different activities, but also present an opportunity to reinforce an element of one of the five aspirations, or even a significant event in the history of Clif Bar. The pathway surface should be durable yet organic, so decomposed granite or a similar material would be an ideal surface for this amenity. The Fitness Trail needs to be wide enough to accommodate a small vehicle for security as well as emergency access. Solar-powered bollards should be evenly spaced along the length of the trail to provide minimal lighting for safety and wayfinding. FITNESS STATIONS + DISC GOLF + BIKE SKILLS COURSE The many amenities throughout the site such as the Oat Field, Solar Array and Wind Farm will be main features of the fitness trail, but there will also be dedicated fitness stations for Bakery Employees and visitors to utilize. Each station will provide a different fitness exercise or stretch; an opportunity for these stations is that they could also be designed by local Twin Falls artists. These stations should have a scrappy aesthetic and could be built of recycled materials or biophilic in nature. A disc golf course will also run alongside the Fitness Path. The course will be designed to the Professional Disc Golf Association’s standards and include 9 “holes”. Since there is a risk of pedestrians being struck by flying frisbees, each hole will be carefully planned to make sure no obstructions are in the path. In addition to the other fitness elements, a bike skills course will sit on the north side of the site, adjacent to the fitness path and the wave garden. The bike skills course will be a circuit of rollers, banked turns, berms, and features designed out of graded earth. The course could be graded and left as a dirt path, or could be paved with concrete or asphalt to be more accessible for skateboards, scooters, etc. Reference bermstyle.com for good design suggestions for bike skills courses; a well designed course has good flow, lots of maintenance, and clear signage for user management.

The goal of this aspiration is to demonstrate conservation and restoring natural resources; growing a business that operates in harmony with the laws of nature. 28 PLANET: SOLAR ARRAY SOLAR CANOPY/SOLAR FARM The largest physical manifestation of the Planet Aspiration on the site is the solar array. Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the sun that is harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies; in the case of the Solar Array on the Twin Falls Bakery site, solar energy is harnessed through photovoltaics. Photovoltaics essentially convert light into electric energy. Clif Bar is currently implementing a renewable energy effort for this project where approximately 2.5 megawatts of power will be provided by photovoltaic solar arrays. The majority of this solar array is arranged along the south west edge of the site, with the rest of the solar array covering the majority of the existing parking. These arrays are raised up to a higher elevation to provide an ideal environment for a pollinator habitat, which also serves as a pleasing aesthetic compliment to the walking path. PARKING SOLAR CANOPY Smaller solid arrays are provided over the parking field, which will provide shade and shelter from precipitation in addition to electric power: a truly multi-functional amenity for the employees at Clif Bar.

On the south edge of the Solar Array is proposed to have a Pollinator Habitat and Apiary with colorful hive structures of various geometries to draw attention to the vital role that bees play in our ecosystem. The intent is to provide a training ground to educate interested parties in raising bees and honey harvesting, as well as their impact on the environment. It would be set up for interaction as well as observation to appeal to a larger cross-section of the public. 1 SOLAR ARRAY 2 SOLAR LOOKOUT 3 POLLINATOR HABITAT • plant species to attract pollinators to thrive 4 APIARY • hive structures of various shape, sizes and colors. • observation/instruction area 1 PLANET 2 CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN 13 4 MASTER PLAN CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN

PLANET: OAT FIELD BARN / SHEEP GRAZING 31 BABCOCK DESIGN | CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN | 31 As a main ingredient of Clif Bars, the oat field is a small demonstration field that gives Clif Bar visitors 1 a sense of the look and feel of how oats are grown. The field is approximately 2 acres and intended 1 SHEEP BARN to be used for demonstration and experimentation of the crop. The oat field presents an opportunity to demonstrate how oats are grown, harvested, cut and processed for use in Clif Bars. Organic farming methods could also be demonstrated for the oat crops to further educate the public on the benefits of this approach. A tractor path connects vehicular traffic to the oat field and sheep barn – giving the traveling sheep farmers access to drop off and pick up sheep as needed. The small sheep barn is a nod to the agricultural community of Idaho; supplies and shelter for the sheep during inclement weather all fit under the small footprint. The aesthetic of the Barn is scrappy and functional. PLANET CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN MASTER PLAN CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN

The standards for perches include: • Provide perch sites for natural predator raptors - hawks, owls, and kestrels. • Raptors scan for prey activity from an elevated perch site, swooping down from the perch to seize the prey. • Perch sites should be in the center of an open area or field. • Perches should be 15 to 20 feet tall. • Raptors show a preference toward perches that provide protection from attack from above and behind. • Attaching a nesting box three feet above a cross member will provide the birds with a sense of security. • Perches should be oriented so that the cross pieces point east and west. • An East / West orientation provides optimum visibility for the perching birds with respect to early morning and late afternoon light. • Perches should be spaced at least 50 yards apart (300’ between perches) Vegetation Management is also a key piece of Integrated Pest Management. There is a 60’ food safe zone around the bakery building. (refer to the Master Plan for a graphic of this zone) Within this food safe zone, all landscape will be managed and maintained to eliminate areas of dense vegetation.

35 PLANET: GROVE / BIORETENTION / BABCOCK DESIGN | CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN | 35 SEDIMENT POND 2 2 1 BIORETENTION 2 Bioswales and bioretention ponds are landscape elements designed to remove debris and pollution out of surface runoff water. Bioswales consist 4 of a swaled drainage course with gently sloped sides and filled with 1 vegetation capable of enduring periods of wet runoff and periods of dry weather. 32 PLANET There are two main bioretention ponds on the bakery site: one at the 1 BIORETENTION 2 GROVE 3 SEDIMENT POND 4 LOOKOUT North side of the site and the other at the south end. At the south west CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN bioretention pond, the earth will be reworked to provide a slope for south-facing vineyards while pooling any excess water at the south end MASTER PLAN away from the vines. CLIF BAR MASTER PLAN Bioretention on site is an opportunity to educate visitors about the benefits of filtration of stormwater instead of allowing stormwater to be directly runoff into the stormwater system. SEDIMENT POND The Bakery’s irrigation system is fed from canal water. Since canal water is prone to sedimentation issues in the water, a sediment pond helps reduce issues with the irrigation system (ie: filters, sprinkler heads, valves, drip system filters, and even pumps). Water pressure can even be affected by sedimentation in the water. This means irrigation on site is at the mercy of upstream farms; some crops such as corn and beans can mean even more sedimentation issues than typical. The settling pond will provide a means to catch the sediment prior to clogging the system: the water will be piped out of the existing weir to the far end of the pond and then be drawn into the irrigation system at the top near end of the pond. GROVE Humans and animals alike benefit from the shade provided by groves of trees. The sight and the sounds of wind passing through the leaves as well as the songs of birds will greatly enhance the fitness trail that passes through it. The groves will also provide a break from prevailing winds in the area.
