Review Powder-bed Additive Manufacturing Processes for Complex Functional Metallic Components (45 hours) Skills Course Reference Number: CRS-Q-0036892-PRE The course aims to introduce fundamental concepts, theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience on powder-bed metal additive manufacturing (AM) technologies to address high-mix low-volume production for applications in the aerospace, marine, automotive, biomedical, as well as other related industrial sectors. Participants will acquire knowledge and skills on materials and metallic AM process selection to fulfil specific functional requirements. New insight, understanding and more in-depth perspective are gained on various powder-bed metal AM processes, such as binder jet printing (BJP), selective laser melting (SLM), electron beam melting (EBM), and other upcoming powder-bed metal AM processes. The course includes case studies and practical lab sessions to substantiate technology adoption of metallic AM processes in actual production. Why This Course • Designed specifically to meet Singapore’s industry demand • Delivered by technology experts with many years of industrial projects’ experience • Highly practical and hands-on work intensive • Latest knowledge and up-to-date technologies via industrial case-studies Who Should Attend This course is designed to meet the objectives of providing skills training for professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) working on areas of testing, design, processes, production, reliability and quality improvement in manufacturing industries, such as aerospace, biomedical, medical technology, electronics, precision engineering, automotive and general manufacturing. Upon Completion of this Course Electronic certificates (e-Certs) are issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) to participants who have attended and attained competency in the Singapore Skills Framework training modules. When & Where Please visit our website at KTO.SIMTech.a-star.edu.sg for the course schedule. Training Venue: Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology 2 Fusionopolis Way, Innovis, Level 8, Singapore 138634

What You Will Learn This course allows participants to learn about the powder-bed metal additive manufacturing technologies to fabricate complex functional metallic components. Participants gain understanding of the entire process flow (pre- and post- processing) that is critical for additive manufactured components. With the guidance of experts in additive manufacturing, participants also get hands-on experience on binder jet printing, selective laser melting, electron beam melting, and learn to conduct quality assessment of additive manufactured parts. Contents covered in this module include: • Overview of powder-bed additive manufacturing (AM) of metals and their applications • Metal powder production methods and characterisation • Process and hardware for BJP, SLM and EBM • Practical lab sessions on three powder-bed metal AM technologies (BJP, SLM and EBM) • Quality assessment of AM parts • Project work on metal powder-bed AM technologies About the Course Leaders Dr Sharon Nai is a Senior Scientist with SIMTech’s 3D AM team. She holds a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. Her research areas include 3D printing of metallic structures for structural and functional applications, design and development of new alloys and metal matrix composites for 3D printing, and metal powder atomization and processing. Dr Nai has extensive experience in leading research and industry projects with local and international collaborators. Dr Sun Chen-Nan is a Scientist with SIMTech’s 3D AM Team. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Virginia, USA. Prior to joining SIMTech in 2011, he worked for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Taiwan, and National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), USA. His research interests include laser processing of materials, semiconductor device fabrication, and machine learning. Dr Sun has led the development of selective laser melting technology at SIMTech for a variety of industrial applications. Dr Florencia Edith Wiria is a Scientist with SIMTech’s 3D AM Team. She obtained her PhD degree from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her research career concentrates on process and material development for 3D printing systems, such as stereolithography, selective laser sintering, powder-bed inkjet 3D printer, polymer jetting, fused deposition modeling, and selective laser melting. She has led research and industry projects involving materials and their composites for 3D printing of functional components. Dr Wang Pan is a Scientist with SIMTech’s 3D AM Team with more than 5 years of professional experience in initiating and managing research projects. He holds a PhD degree in Materials and Manufacturing Science from Osaka University, Japan. His research areas include (i) development of high-performance metallic powder for additive manufacturing and (ii) design and optimization of new structures for additive manufacturing. Dr Wang has led the development of electron beam melting (EBM) technology at SIMTech for a variety of industrial applications.
