PTG Polymer Technology Group Lightweight Performance The Polymer Technology Group (PTG) develops near net shape polymer and composite processing technologies, including functional property enhancement, design optimisation and process customisation. The aim is to create dimensionally accurate parts with optimised mechanical properties, while minimising material wastage and manufacturing costs within the process chain. The group carries out collaborative cutting-edge research with academic institutions, co-develops processes and products with companies, transfers technology and conducts training for the manufacturing industry. PTG welcomes industry partners and industry-minded academic collaborators to work together on innovative research, and process and product development through projects and joint labs. Customer Story New Development of Hand Sanitiser Holder for SIA A joint laboratory was set up between SIA, SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) and SIMTech in July 2019 with the goal to establish a strong local supply chain and ecosystem for cabin interior components design and cost- effective manufacturing method. The Covid-19 situation provided SIMTech an opportunity to support our national airline to achieve their safe-to-fly measures, like the customisation and installation of flight-safe sanitiser dispenser holders inside the aircraft cabin. The components installed in the aircraft cabin had to meet stringent material and product performance. No certified aircraft cabin interior sanitiser holders were commercially available in the industry at that point in time. In less than 3 months, the Polymer Technology Group utilised their materials and manufacturing expertise to successfully develop the unique and functional product alongside the support of certified local SMEs like Dynamold Precision Pte Ltd and Lux Cabin Interior Pte Ltd. The sanitiser holders are now fully deployed in SIA’s and Scoot’s entire fleet. “ The COVID-19 crisis has brought about great opportunities for us to integrate, “ create and differentiate. We are glad to have this opportunity to collaborate with SIMTech and SIAEC to design, manufacture and install sanitiser holders on board our aircraft, as part of the enhanced health and safety measures that we have embarked on to protect our customers and staff when they fly with us Mr Sito Wai Seng, Senior Manager, Singapore Airlines MORE STORIES?
