Automation Components and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing (42 hours) Skills Course Reference Number: CRS-Q-0038629-PRE Apart from replacing human workers to perform automatically high-precision processes, automation is highly in demand for material handling and transferring. Such needs are not just required in the logistic industry, but also on the factory floors for transferring workpieces among machines and equipment, as well as moving workpieces within the equipment. This module introduces the automation methods and key components for part transfer within equipment as well as among the machines in the manufacturing industry. It develops the competencies of the participants in planning and designing real-world automation projects. Why This Course • Highly practical course content delivered in an intensive and interactive manner • Introduction of the latest automation technology for material handlings • Case studies highlighting applications of knowledge in manufacturing automations • Real-world projects will be discussed and practised to enhance the skills in planning for automation projects Who Should Attend This course targets at engineers, factory supervisors, managers, researchers and technical staff who are interested in gaining or enhancing the competencies in planning and designing automation for material handling. Upon Completion of this Course Electronic certificates (e-Certs) are issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) to participants who have attended and attained competency in the Singapore Skills Framework training modules. When & Where Please visit our website at KTO.SIMTech.a-star.edu.sg for the course schedule. Training Venue: Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology 2 Fusionopolis Way, Innovis, Level 8, Singapore 138634

What You Will Learn The course covers the following performance statements: • Understand principles of manufacturing automation • Gain awareness of the basic part transfer methods within equipment • Select and apply material transfer methods on factory floors • Review automated material transfer method for logistic industry • Understand the enabling technologies for robotic pick-and-place • Learn the latest development of robotic gripping technologies • Understand the sensor and sensing methods for parts identifications and localisation • Develop skills in planning automation projects About the Course Leaders Dr Lin Wei’s research interests are in industrial robotics for precision process and inspection automation. He has been a technical and project leader for more than 50 major industrial automation projects for the precision engineering, electronics, oil and gas, and aerospace industries. Currently he is a Senior Scientist in SIMTech’s Mechatronics Group and an Adjunct Research Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore. Mr Chow Siew Loong is a Principal Research Engineer and team leader for the Engineering and Instrumentation Unit with SIMTech’s Manufacturing Automation Division. His research interests are in mechanical and conceptual designs, automation and the implementation of cost-effective instrumentation and sensors. He has been teaching mechanical design and automation courses since 2015 that focus on technical areas and non-technical areas such as IP, commercial and technology intelligence. Dr Luo Hong is a Senior Research Engineer with SIMTech. Since 1999, she has been engaged in sensing and automation-related research areas such as welding process automation and vision-based on-line monitoring, and vision and force control for micromanipulation. Presently, she focuses on 2D/3D data analytics for object recognition and 3D pose localisation in material handling applications, and deep learning of phased array ultrasonic data for the automation of weld flaw detection.
