MESSAGE Mr Tan Kok Yam Chief Executive SkillsFuture Singapore I would like to congratulate all the SIMTech and ARTC graduands on the successful completion of your training. Starting something is easy; seeing it through is difficult. So I congratulate each of you for seizing the opportunity to learn and upgrade; and for persevering to the end. I am confident that you have benefited from the Learn–Practise–Implement™ (LPI™) approach in our training programmes; not just in updating your skillsets, but also in acquiring the mentality to continuously learn new skills, practise them, and put them to good use in your profession and for your role in the workplace. Your successful graduation also gives us in SkillsFuture Singapore the confidence that our programmes and partnerships have delivered value to you as individuals, and to companies. SSG will continue to partner SIMTech and ARTC to deliver impactful and industry-relevant training, and to equip our workforce with in-demand and emerging skills. So congratulations once again. I wish you the very best in your careers, and I look forward to your contribution to our economy, and to the uplifting of our advanced manufacturing sector. 2

MESSAGE Dr Frederick Chew Chief Executive Agency for Science, Technology and Research The Singapore government has been steadfast in promoting lifelong learning through initiatives such as SGUnited Skills (SGUS) Programmes to boost the capabilities of the local workforce and to uplift the competitiveness of the local manufacturing sector. We hope that such initiatives will help propel our human capital and ecosystem in support of national industry priorities of innovation, digitalisation, and sustainability. It is heartening to see how far the partnership between SIMTech, ARTC, and SkillsFuture Singapore has come. This year we are excited to celebrate with the largest ever cohort of about 1,000 graduands from 30 Training Courses and 8 SGUnited Skills (SGUS) Programmes. SkillsFuture Singapore has been working closely with A*STAR SIMTech and ARTC’s Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO). Together we have built a comprehensive portfolio of courses with adequate depth and scope to support the government’s initiatives to boost the capabilities of the local workforce, and to uplift the competitiveness of the local manufacturing sector. Set up in SIMTech in 2009, the Knowledge Transfer Office upskills the local workforce through lifelong training, and transfers advanced manufacturing technology know-how to the industry through effective training programmes. These advanced manufacturing programmes have been curated and built upon years of extensive industrial collaborations, deep R&D expertise, and state-of-the-art facilities at A*STAR. The programmes are structured on the “Learn–Practise–Implement™ (LPI™)” model, which equips participants with real industry use cases and enables them to put their learning into practise at their workplaces, thereby serving to upskill not only employees, but employers and businesses as well. In 2021, the Knowledge Transfer Office was expanded to become a unit of both SIMTech and ARTC, to harness the combined R&D expertise in advanced manufacturing technologies of the two research institutes, and provide broader and deeper expertise to better address the skills gaps and training demand for the advanced manufacturing workforce in Singapore. In conclusion, I would like to congratulate all the graduands of this cohort for your resilience and your determination to learn and relearn in order to stay relevant in our fast-advancing manufacturing industry. My warmest wishes to each of you and best wishes for your future endeavours. Congratulations, graduands of the 11th SIMTech-ARTC-SkillsFuture Singapore Graduation Ceremony! 3

Pending revision INSPIRING TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “One of the things that I like about the Digital Transformation and Innovation™ (DTI™) Programme is its value-add to staff and businesses regardless of where they are in their digital transformation journeys – there are always opportunities for growth that can be realised through technology, and areas that can be optimised. DTI™ enables companies to discover these opportunities systematically, and strategically plan for their implementation to make the biggest impact in the shortest amount of time. The trainers of the DTI™ course are very knowledgeable and experienced in tailoring the course to different participants and businesses regardless of professional level or how digitally advanced the businesses are. I recommended two of my colleagues to join this course, and we also learnt how to use the DTI™ methodology to develop Digital Leaders within our own teams. Through the DTI™ Programme, the HP team developed proof- of-concepts for integration solutions for HP digital platforms, designed a smart factory to scale operations and production, and explored an automated dynamic production scheduling system to cut out manual work and heighten productivity. I believe these improvements will have ripple effects on the productivity of related workflows and digitalisation opportunities as well. We are excited to implement these results in our teams and shopfloors and see real business impacts from greater digitalisation.” Janson Ong Guan Guan Designation(?) HP Singapore (Private) Limited 6

Pending revision INSPIRING TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “I am very honoured to be recognised through this award. I have always believed in the importance of continuous learning to keep ourselves relevant and competitive. Thanks to the course trainers and Dr Sun Zheng, who brought with them years of industry experience to the class, and were ready and patient in sharing their knowledge beyond the course topics, to enable us to learn and benefit from the programme. The course was relevant to my line of work – in fact, I was able to bring real welding issues from my work into the class for discussion with the trainers and rest of the course mates. Throughout this course, I have gained more acute expertise and operational know-how in the advanced welding domain. It was a pleasant surprise to be promoted to local expert in welding and cutting in my organisation! I am glad to be able to offer my clients higher levels of competencies, and value-added services and technology solutions, and bring in more knowledge to share with my company.” Kenneth Kong Sin Chua Designation Air Liquide Industries Service 7

Pending revision INSPIRING TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “Sustainability is a broad term, and can encompass everything from individual actions to corporate-level decisions. It can be daunting to decide how to start and what steps to take in organisational sustainability transformation. This is exactly why the Green Compass™ course has been helpful to Applied Materials South East Asia. Beyond being informative, our team has gained a good understanding of the level of environmental sustainability at our local operations. More importantly, we brainstormed practical next steps to drive sustainability efforts throughout the company. At Applied Materials, we have a vision to ‘Make Possible® A Better Future’ in the world round us. Throughout our global operations, Applied Materials considers environmental impact in every significant decision we make. Furthermore, optimising operations for sustainability is important for businesses to maintain a competitive edge and mitigate risks. I am honoured to be presented with this award, and even more heartened by the opportunity to drive a culture of sustainability in Applied Materials and make it a part of everything we do. A huge thank you to the course trainers, especially Ms Goh Soo Lin, who readily shared her knowledge and expertise with the team. Their efforts have given us new industry perspectives, ideas and skillsets. On behalf of Applied Materials, I wish A*STAR SIMTech and TÜV SÜD the very best in your journey in proliferating Green Compass™ as a tool throughout the industry.” Vianna Peng Hanwei Designation Applied Materials South East Asia 8

Pending revision INDUSTRY PARTNER’S TESTIMONIAL “A*STAR’s SIMTech has always been supportive of and worked with Teckwah since 2011, through multiple training programmes from Operations MaNagement Innovation (OMNI) to Digital Transformation and Innovation™ (DTI™). Specifically, the OMNI programme has contributed to the successful establishment of two sister companies, Thrive Print and Precise Converter, with strong management support for implementation on the shopfloor. We have achieved impactful results such as a productivity improvement of 21.5% in a paper management study, leading to the reduction of extra paper requests and downtime. Other notable achievements included a 60% reduction in the number of work orders with extra paper requisition, and an improvement in artwork file management that reduced our set-up time by 40% and rejection rate by 100%. Aside from investigating the technicalities of operations, a process skill matrix was also mapped to aid the improvement of unskilled to skilled competencies by 25%. Building on these successes, Teckwah will continue partnering with A*STAR SIMTech on Value Chain Process Mining, Last Mile Service Optimisation, and Value Chain Order Allocation & Optimisation in the near future.” Winner’s Name Designation Teckwah Industrial Corporation Pte Ltd 9

Pending revision INDUSTRY PARTNER’S TESTIMONIAL “Michelman Asia-Pacific aims to deliver innovative, sustainable and high-quality products at competitive cost in a safe and productive environment by transforming our manufacturing processes to meet Industry 4.0 standards with a future ready workforce. The principles of LEAN are the very foundation of this transformation. SIMTech has always been our long-term training partner to help us build and sustain this foundational transformation. Back in 2019, a total of 40 associates – about 60% of our staff – attended the LEAN manufacturing training, and 16 associates attended the DTI™ training. This introduced both the LEAN concept as well as how we can leverage digital technologies to empower our staff to work more effectively, efficiently and more productively. This year, 46 of our associates participated in the i-LEAN and LEAN implementation programmes. Since attending the training, everyparticipanthassuccessfullylaunchedanimprovement initiative using the LEAN concept. Successes of the initiatives have had impacts across the whole organisation, from operations to administration, and brought productivity improvements from 30% to 80%. Thank you SIMTech for partnering with us on this transformation journey! We are certain that there will be more collaboration opportunities as we progress steadily toward high-value manufacturing technologies and human capital development.” Winner’s Name Designation Michelman Singapore 10

Pending revision INDUSTRY PARTNER’S TESTIMONIAL “Here at JM VisTec, we strongly encourage and support our employees’ upskilling by participating in WSQ courses to improve their knowledge and technical skills. One of the key training centres we have been sending our employees to is A*STAR SIMTech, where their WSQ courses have made a significant impact on our operations. Pending revision RESILIENT TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “With the knowledge and skills that I acquired from the laboratory hands-on sessions of the SGUnited Skills (SGUS) for DTI™ Programme, I chose to take up the IIoT-Enabled Equipment Condition Monitoring and Alert project, or the IECOM project, as part of the fulfilment requirement for the programme. This also aligned to my personal interests in automation and control, as well as in high-tech urban farming. Since embarking on this project, I have successfully designed and developed a remote sensing, monitoring, alert and control system that allows for sustainable urban farming. This system will contribute to Singapore national target of 30% food self- sufficiency by 2030. I would like to thank my project lead and trainer, Mr Tan Chak Huah and Mr William Tan, for guiding me enough to kick off the project, but allowing me the freedom to become self-sufficient in figuring out how to achieve objectives with available resources, and trying out different methods for problem-solving. The SGUS for DTI™ Programme also equipped me with Systematic Problem-Solving skills. This opened the door to my current position as an Enterprise Development Manager with Maha Chemicals, a progressive, high-value company that constantly looks for ways to improve its organisational resilience and sustainability for its business covering 11 countries in the region. I would like to thank Mr Lim Yi Yung for making my introduction to Maha Chemicals, where I currently assist the managing director to formulate and implement improvements across the organisation.” Lee Cheng Giap Enterprise Development Manager Maha Chemicals (Asia) Pte Ltd 12

Pending revision RESILIENT TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “Coming from a different field of study, additive manufacturing was a steep learning curve for me. I am thankful to our group of passionate lecturers from A*STAR SIMTech, including Dr Sharon Nai and Dr Sun Chen-Nan, who were tireless and detailed in guiding us through the course theories and laboratory hands-on practices. Our lecturers were very approachable and willing to share their knowledge and expertise, which made this an extremely meaningful and fruitful learning journey. I also built invaluable industry connections through this course, through our lecturers’ networks as well as my coursemates’, who were from very diverse backgrounds and professional experiences. The SGUnited Skills (SGUS) for Additive Manufacturing Programme covered essential skills for 3D printing, such as software programming for reverse engineering and file preparation for 3D printing. Through the theory and practical sessions, we even got the chance to conduct the actual printing procedures of products following industry standards and requirements. The project work module also allowed me to learn techniques for bioprinting and perform bioprinting experiments, such as designing of print preparations including infill patterns and support generation for making successful prints, and the printing of inter-stacked collagen and skin cells to mimic human skin for research purposes. This skillset secured me a job offer from the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s dentistry bioprinting department, where I am now a research assistant specialising in biomaterial research and bioprinting. Through this course, I am now able to pursue my career goal in a high-value and growing medical sector that benefits society.” Ruby Lin Yu Tong Designation Company Name 13

Pending revision RESILIENT TRAINEE’S TESTIMONIAL “I enrolled in the A*STAR SIMTech’s SGUnited Skills (SGUS) for Digital Transformation and Innovation™ (DTI™) Programme to reskill and sharpen my competitiveness in today’s digital world. I am really thankful for all the mentors of the SGUS for DTI™ Programme who were very supportive and patient in guiding me throughout the learning journey, especially Dr Wang Fengyu, Mr Tan Chak Huah, Mr Peter Chew, Ms Michelle Nguyen, and Dr Luo Ming. I am also blessed to have had helpful coursemates with great team spirit. The knowledge and competencies that I gained from the modules laid the foundation for my understanding of the importance of digital transformation for Singapore’s manufacturing industry in the era of Industry 4.0. Through the programme, I learnt to be a Digital Transformer and employ the DTI™ methodology to analyse and design business strategies, and develop business models, value steams, and system architecture. For example, these can take the form of customer management, inventory planning, and warehouse management systems, as well as digital marketing strategies to eliminate inefficiencies and maximise business revenue, annual turnover, and client satisfaction. I strongly recommend leaders of companies to consider SIMTech’s DTI™ Programmec to unlock new business growth and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. My newly-acquired DTI™competencies also opened an employment opportunity for me in A*STAR, and I am now privileged to be able to work in the Tech Access Office helping companies to stay globally competitive through technological innovations.” Cheryl Lee Sheau Chin Designation Company Name 14
