Automation Design and Simulation (42 hours) Skills Course Reference Number: CRS-Q-0040190-PRE This highly practical module provides participants with the methods for assessing the manufacturing processes so that automation meeting the requirements can be selected for productivity improvements. Techniques of design and simulation will be introduced for a robotics system set-up and programming. Methods of sensing and locating workpieces for part handing will be taught. The participants will be guided through the process of developing and executing practical projects for acquiring the competencies in automation process studies and automation system simulation. He has more than twelve years of industry experience with SMEs and MNCs such as IBM (Taiwan and Singapore), GE (Singapore), Schlumberger (Singapore) etc. He serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the National University of Singapore and a part-time teaching staff with the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His field of research interests includes mechanical design, FEM, neural network, Fuzzy logical, motion control, real-time control and robotics with physical background and experience in mechanical/software control engineering, and a wide range of automation projects in the food industry, medical equipment, aerospace overhaul and precision machines. Dr Lin is a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMech) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) of Engineering Council in UK. Dr Luo Hong is a Senior Research Engineer with SIMTech. Since 1999, she has been engaged in sensing and automation-related research areas such as welding process automation and vision-based on-line monitoring, and vision and force control for micromanipulation. Presently, she focuses on 2D/3D data analytics for object recognition and 3D pose localisation in material handling applications, and deep learning of phased array ultrasonic data for the automation of weld flaw detection. Dr Sun Yeow Cheng is a Researcher from the Mechatronics Group with SIMTech. He has been a technical and project leader for various automation and robotised finishing projects with local SMEs, MNCs, R&D institutes and technology centres since 2008. He served as a subject matter expert in the areas of mechanized finishing processes and technology development during his secondment with Rolls-Royce Singapore in 2014 & 2015. His areas of research interest include industrial robotics and mechatronic systems. Course Fee and Funding • The full course fee for this module is S$4,000 before SkillsFuture funding & GST. • All Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 21 years and above can enjoy SkillsFuture funding of up to 70% of the course fee. • Singaporean or Permanent Resident employees fully sponsored by SMEs can enjoy SkillsFuture funding support of up to 90% of the course fee under the Enhanced Training Support for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) scheme, subject to eligibility criteria. • Singaporeans aged 40 years and above can enjoy SkillsFuture funding of up to 90% of the course fee under the Mid-career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES). • Singaporeans aged 25 years old and above are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit which can be used to offset course fees (for self-sponsored registrations only).
