Customer Story“ Advanced Surface Technologies Allow Cost-Effective Repairs of Cabin Interiors for SIA To provide cost-effective repair services to SIA, Advanced Surface Technologies have been successfully applied for repair of metal-coated aerospace interior cabin components (copper trims) with different coating structure complexity. In particular, a novel lacquer stripper was successfully developed with fast stripping speed and no damage to the underlying plastic substrate to enable this repair process. Furthermore, a pilot production line for volume repair of copper trims incorporating technologies developed in the SIA*SIAEC*SIMTech Joint Lab was incorporated. The outcomes for SIA were : • Repaired components with desired appearances and surface properties • Shorter lead-time and improved flexibility on cabin maintenance • Improved sustainability by reducing component wastage “ The SIA*SIMTech*SIAEC Joint Lab has brought about great opportunities for Singapore Airlines to integrate, create and differentiate. We are glad to have this opportunity to collaborate with SIMTech and SIAEC to repair our metal-coated plastic cabin parts in a sustainable manner with minimal component wastage. The successful application of Advanced Surface Technologies has enabled us to maintain our aircraft cabin at a high quality standard while embracing sustainability Mr Waiseng Sito, Senior Manager Tech.
