INSPIRING TRAINEES’ TESTIMONIALS “Digital transformation is central to HP’s transformation journey. This course provides lots of good insights into how companies and employees should lead digital transformation at the workplace. Something which I personally learnt in this course is that digital transformation is not just about processes and tools, but largely about people. That helped me to reshape my focus on people and get them on board the journey of digital transformation. This course has been designed in a way to keep it relevant to what companies want to achieve in terms of vision. It starts with identifying companies’ key business objectives and then devises the right digital transformation framework around key processes at the enterprise and shopfloor levels to achieve those objectives. One key tool I learned in this course is the Digital Value Stream Mapping, which identifies opportunities to be addressed by capturing key processes and tools at enterprise and shopfloor levels. Looking at these opportunities, we came up with good initiatives and drove the projects to address pain points. We learnt about Brownfield & Greenfield digitalisation, IoT solutions, digital supply chain to name a few. These are very relevant concepts for HP as we continue to look for modern digital solutions for Greenfield, at the same time looking for solutions to digitalise Brownfield areas. There was a good mix of trainees from different functions like operations, engineering, finance and so on to collaborate and provide complementary perspectives. We made good progress on those initiatives, and I’m sure these would help HP to move forward in our transformation journey. I am personally amazed to see trainees applying learning so quickly to their respective roles. I would like to thank Ming Hon, Ma Bin and all the mentors for facilitating the sessions so well. I would also thank Ashwin and all the trainees for great engagement and contributions.” Mr Ajay Kumar Jain Director, WW Ink Supplies Finance HP Singapore (Private) Limited 7
INSPIRING TRAINEES’ TESTIMONIALS “I would like to share with you my journey with SIMTech, A*STAR as a WSQ Graduate Diploma trainee. I signed up for the A*STAR WSQ Graduate Diploma in Additive Manufacturing last October. I was attracted to this course as I regard Additive Manufacturing as a disruptive yet complementary transformative manufacturing technology for the industry. I find the Full Graduate Diploma course very comprehensive, and I particularly enjoyed the hands-on practices where I was exposed to the various Additive Manufacturing processes and characterisation equipment. We were also allowed the opportunity to work on projects using real applications where the End-to-End Additive Manufacturing processes must be considered. These include considering the materials to be used for the case studies to process optimisation and post-processing of the functional parts to be considered. The trainers provided detailed explanations of any questions and doubts I had and even suggested ways for improvement to some of my proposed solutions. In summary, the alternative manufacturing solutions and new digitalised manufacturing processing technologies helped me to stay relevant and competitive in this new day and age. I thoroughly enjoyed the Additive Manufacturing Graduate Diploma course and I’m glad that I have made a few friends along the way.” Mr Hamid Sukendro Equipment Engineer 8
INSPIRING TRAINEES’ TESTIMONIALS “I attended this welding Graduate Diploma course with very high expectations, as I heard positive feedback from some of my peers in the industry who highly recommended the course. Indeed, I learnt a lot of state-of-the-art knowledge, techniques, and useful real-world case studies during the course. The knowledge imparted prompted me to think about how I could apply what I have learnt to my work. Presently, I have started to implement some concepts and techniques gained from the course to make improvements in our current processes. Moreover, I am currently leading my team to assess and evaluate Robotic Laser Cladding for my company to improve quality, reduce waste and increase accuracy in welding. We are also planning to collaborate with SIMTech and a local company on implementing the laser cladding process in our production line. I really appreciate what this excellent course offers and would like to recommend more people to attend this informative course.” Mr Leong Yew Wing, Mervin Lead Welding Engineer TechnipFMC Singapore Pte Ltd 9
INDUSTRY PARTNERS’ TESTIMONIALS HP Singapore began its transformation journey towards Industry 4.0 in 2017, by focusing on these five pillars: Workforce Transformation, Digitalisation, Cyber-Physical Integration, Data Analytics, and Additive Manufacturing. We established the Smart Manufacturing Applicants & Research Centre (SMARC) and one of the pillars is to focus on Smart Analytics for manufacturing and progressing to work towards next stage for Supply Chain Integration and Supply Chain Optimisation to support its complex digital fulfilment requirements. HP Singapore has transformed its factory from being manual, labour intensive and reactive to being highly digitised, automated and driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). HP Singapore Campus was recently recognised as one of the lighthouse factories for Industry 4.0 (I.4) implementations by World Economic Forum and McKinsey in Mar 2021. We have joined 99 other factories around the world in this WEF Global Lighthouse network who have adopted I.4 technologies at scale to drive business results. We were able to achieve greater manufacturing cost reduction by 20% and improved productivity and quality by 70%. Besides higher productivity and quality, we have also reskilled our people to be future-ready. To further discover and drive data and analytics opportunities via Digital Leadership development, HP Singapore sponsored over 30 senior leaders, heads of operation departments and front-line leaders, from Finance, Strategy and Planning, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, Digital Transformation Business Development, Manufacturing Engineering, R&D and New Product Development, Laboratories and Hardware Testing, and Quality to participate in both SIMTech’s Digital Leadership and DTI™ Programmes. People are at the core of any transformation journey and this digital leadership training dovetails very well with HP leadership principles to ‘Imagine the future, Inspire the team, Make it Happen’“. Ms Jamie Neo Director of Engineering, HP Singapore Pte Ltd 10
INDUSTRY PARTNERS’ TESTIMONIALS “One of the key tenets of Collins Aerospace is continuous improvement; it is a never-ending journey. The ability to learn and adapt to the ever-changing market environment is critical. For the past 26 years, the practice of LEAN Manufacturing tools has enabled us to achieve outstanding performance. However, the emergence of COVID-19 has changed our competitive landscape and we need to adapt. It was quite obvious that the next significant step was to adopt Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance all our business processes to be more connected and integrated, thus enhancing speed, flexibility and ultimately customer satisfaction. Everything starts with a byte of data, so we started from the most fundamental – to understand our data. To encourage the culture of adoption, we have participants from cross-functional departments, from fresh graduates, young engineers to senior leadership team. I am very impressed with the support given by SIMTech, working with our employees to understand the data and what we could do with all this information, namely what are the gaps, and what do we need to change, so that in the next 5 years, we would have good data and models that will bring us ahead of our global competitors. We thank SIMTech and SkillsFuture Singapore for this wonderful opportunity.” Mr Cheam Hing Gee General Manager, Collins Aerospace & Goodrich Aerostructures Service Center – Asia Pte Ltd 11
INDUSTRY PARTNERS’ TESTIMONIALS “I-PEX Singapore embarked on SIMTech’s Digital Transformation & Innovation™ (DTI™) Programme since December 2019. The company sponsored 10 key staff systematically for Learn-Practise-Implement DTI™ methodology, identified significant hotspots and opportunities in shopfloor and enterprise levels. The team developed a digital transformation roadmap and over 10 initiatives under SIMTech’s DTI™ team’s mentorship, successfully deployed the SIMTech’s Real-Time OEE Monitoring System for validating the effectiveness of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by connecting the System with injection and stamping machines provided timely visualisation of relevant information for decisions on where to make the process improvement. I-PEX also adopted and deployed SIMTech’s eDataLogger technology to complete the implementation of “eData Library” initiative for the digitalisation of Production and Quality documents. The company knows that excess inventory is “the root of all evil” but there is a lack of effective tools that can tell the situation clearly and recommend solutions. In early 2020, our team participated in the inventory planning programme which equip us with the tools for developing inventory policy and evaluating inventory performance. The result from the pilot run by engaging SIMTech inventory planning system is very encouraging, which can considerably reduce excess inventory and increase inventory returns. Here, I would like to thank the SIMTech team for their sharing and help, and we would like to enhance the collaboration to continuously develop our capability, for example, in inventory Business Intelligence etc.” Ms Chris Lim Quality Manager, I-PEX Singapore Pte Ltd 12
RESILIENT TRAINEES’ TESTIMONIALS “Firstly, I would like to thank SSG and SIMTech for providing us with this valuable programme. As I joined the SGUS Programme for Advanced Welding Technologies Robotised Processes with the hope of enhancing my welding-related knowledge, I really treasured this opportunity and participated in all the activities proactively. The programme was very interesting and I gained vast knowledge from it. In fact, I have learnt plenty from the lectures, case studies, and particularly in the 2-months projects. After this training programme, I was successfully employed by Cutech Quality and Solutions Pte Ltd as a welding engineer. Since Cutech provides training to the industry, I am now responsible for teaching welding-related courses, for example, the American Welding Society’s (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector Course (CWI®), which is a very popular course for Oil & Gas, Marine and Petrochemical industries. The CWI® is widely recognised nationally and internationally, with companies counting on the AWS certification to ensure top quality workmanship. In addition to the typical course contents, I can now also share various state-of-the-art welding technologies I have learnt from the SGUS programme with my students, which I believe, makes the course more engaging and attractive. Since I started my career as a welding engineer, I have found the experience rewarding and enriching, and I hope I can continue to contribute well to Cutech as well as the industry.“ Mr Simon Wong Trainer cum Welding Engineer, Cutech Quality and Solutions 13
RESILIENT TRAINEES’ TESTIMONIALS “Additive manufacturing has been quite popular for years. I have previous experience on this, but through the great opportunity to participate and learn from the SGUS Programme for Additive Manufacturing Course, has allowed me to deepen my understanding of 3D printing technologies, and helped fulfil my keen interest in simulation studies too.
