IN 2007, KASETSART UNIVERSITY WHEN MY CAREER PATH BEGAN as a 'CABIN CREW' 03
My first flying experinces started with Royal Jordanian Airlines since 2007, right away after my graduation. I had no idea what the cabin crew meant to do, Royal Jordanian became my flying career path templates after all. For all of you that have never been a cabin crew or flight crew in your life you must know that habits and lifestyle change drastically when you enter the aviation industry. The world becomes a much smaller place than what it seemed before. I’m sure there are so many stories behind every crew member, from how they got the job to how they live this extravagant lifestyle and how they cope with it. Here is the story. 04 Since 2007-2011
Since 2011-2014 A day in the life of cabin crew can be as long as 24 hours. It is a long day, but trust me, it’s worth every yawn along the way! Many flights depart early morning, so typical days can start around 2am. Just like passengers, crew arrive at the airport 2 hours before departure time, to prep the aircraft and attend a briefing about the flight ahead. Once passengers are on board, we prepare to take off, and then once we are in the air, the services commence. There’s an initial drinks service for customers, followed by lunch. We will then serve more drinks and hot snacks, and we also offer customers a mid flight movie ice cream, which is always a winner. This can take anything up to 5-6 hours to complete. After this, crew have a quick bite to eat and a power nap in crew rest. Later feeling refreshed and eager to get to our destination, we deliver breakfast/afternoon tea (depending on time zone) before landing. Job done, we arrive at the hotel shower and change, to then meet for crew drinks and dinner. As we are always switching time zone, most crew like to stay awake until a reasonable time, in order to acclimatise for the day ahead. 05
Until here, you might inevitably want to ask what is the most impressive experience after 13 years of flying? In 2009, one night I got a call from Crew Rostering around 9pm. He needed me to get ready, pick-up time in 2 hours. I got nothing of what a cabin crew should normally be informed before the flight. I had to prep myself without any information, I don't even know where to go, what time the aircraft will depart or who I fly with. Everything seemed to be extremely confidential. I was a little paranoid and worried until the bus came. I dragged my trolley down along the way with my heart beating faster. 06
The bus ran along the way to the airport, then turned into an unfamiliar area. A huge Airbus 340 was gracefully hung with a long red carpet on the tarmac up to the last step of the boarding stairs. At that moment I immediately realized why everything seemed so mysterious. Every details was meticulously scanned step by step. Every grain of dust was wiped. All fabrics are pulled until smooth. Even the checked trolleys that had passed the safety inspection from the ground, still needed to be checked more rigorously. All these processes took almost 6 hours until the sun hit the aircraft's windows, every crew members was called to their assigned positions. 07
The flight was departed around 7am heading to London with 32 passengers, it took about 5-6 hours. Believe me, this was the most smooth and peaceful flight ever in my flying life but trembling with nervousness. So once in my life I must say being chosen to serve in the Crown Prince of Jordan's flight was literally a great honor as a crew member... 08
Fast forward 7 years, and after taking 2 airline experiences to travel the world, I realised upon returning that I somehow needed to combine my thirst for flying life with my family. With the skill set I had built up from my cabin crew role, so I decided to leave and join Nok Airlines as a Flight Purser in 2014. Here I had learnt to be a good leader and know what not to do with your colleagues. Becoming a cabin crew on short-haul flights usually require less service, but you can be working up to five flights per day. This can amount to just as much work in the boarding and deplaning process, as it would with the long-haul flights. But the short-haul trips offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to what you want to fly. I spent 6 years here then had to leave due to Covid-19 pandemic situation. 09
After leaving my 13 year in the airline industry, I got a chance to apply for the MD secretary of Kaithong Original restaurant. And as I had a bachelor degree of business administration, so it won't be so surprised if I was assigned for Marketing Department in Corporate Image and Brand field. The job is just included everything that meets the eye of customers. This had changed my point of viewing the world again. It becomes a much bigger place than what I only knew in the airline indutry. I had to know how people on the ground working, how to handle with world without the SOP and Crew Safety Manuals. The most important thing that I found is 'Believe in your infinite potential. Your only limitations are those you set upon yourself!' So now I'm an ex-cabin crew who's holding the Wacom Pen! And yes! I am doing the graphic design on the adobe illastrator! 10
