Members are entitled to fish any Leeds D. A. S. A. water free of charge except Kippax Park and when night fishing on Knotford, when a night fishing permit may be obtained from the Membership Office, but must produce Membership Book or identification on request. Failure to do so will result in that angler being asked to leave the fishery and must produce their Yearbook to General Office within 5 days of the offence. Member not complying with this Rule will be dealt with by the General Purposes Committee. The Society are not liable for any injury sustained to members or day members whilst fishing on any of the Societies’ Preserves. Car Parking at owners risk. This book remains the property of Leeds D. A. S. A. and must be surrendered on demands to the Society. The Fisheries Management Committee shall have the power to impose any temporary ban on any fisheries, eg. keepnets, baits, wading or other restrictions which may be necessary to protect the fish stocks or the fishery in general. These bans to be ratified at the next delegates meetings. The use and possession of any form of laser pen is not allowed on any of the society venues. 1

POLLUTION Any member observing signs of pollution is requested to immediately telephone to the Environment Agency. Members are requested to obtain water samples and diseased fish if possible. E. A. Hotline: 0800 807060 WARNING In view of numerous recent complaints from landowners and farmers on whose land, and by whose courtesy, we are privileged to fish. NO POACHING, NO CAMPING, NO FERRETING, NO HAND LINING OR NIGHT CAMPING, AND NO NIGHT FISHING DURING PUBLISHED LOCAL LIGHTING-UP TIMES EXCEPT KNOTFORD NOOK AND LEAVE NO LITTER ON THE BANKS, ALSO GLASS BOTTLES, TINS AND PLASTIC CONTAINERS, NYLON LINE, HOOKS AND SHOT which are a source of danger to cattle and wild life. We have to point out to all members the serious danger of the loss of these valued fishing rights incurred by this conduct. We appeal to members to refrain from such conduct, to remedy forthwith any such matters when observed, and to report offenders to the officials. We also recommend the use of barbless hooks. The use of all illegal drugs and solvents are prohibited on all Leeds & District ASA waters. 2

RULES NAME OF SOCIETY 1. - The Society shall be called “The Leeds And District Amalgamated Society of Anglers”. OBJECTS 2. - The objects of the society are: The preservation and breeding of fish, the establishment of hatcheries, and the securing of fisheries for its members, the prevention of poaching and illegal possession of fish, the prevention of the taking of fish by illegal methods (including fouling etc and night lines) The prevention of the damage to fences and banks, interference with game and like action, the cultivation of the good opinion of riparian owners and farmers. The prosecution of offenders and for the doing of all other things which shall be conductive to the sport of angling. 3. - Members are required to report all offences and acts on contravention of the objects of the society by writing to the General Secretary, giving full particulars within seven days. CONSTITUTION 1. - Any angling club in Leeds and District shall be eligible for election to The Society. Applications shall be made to the General Secretary together with an entrance fee of £10 and a printed copy of the club rules. The entrance fee shall be returned if the club is not elected. 8

2. - The election of a new club shall be subject to confirmation at the next monthly meeting of the Committee. 3. - No club, league, person or persons in membership of this society shall take any waters without first obtaining permission from the officials of The Society. 4. - The Society shall not cease to exist so long as three clubs remain in full membership 5. - In case The Society does cease to exist the remaining funds shall be handed over to Leeds charities. 6. - The Society reserves the right to refuse membership to any club, league, person or persons 7. - Offenders failing to appear before the GP & FMC will be banned from fishing all Leeds and District ASA waters until they appear before the committee. Also a fine may be imposed. 8. - That the Society be members of the Angling Trust on a membership only basis, with no commitment to any of the Angling Trust organised matches. 9. - That The Society provides recreational services regardless of age, gender, race, religion and disability. STANDING ORDERS The president of The Society (or in his absence the Vice President) shall be the Chairman at the meetings of The Society but in the absence of both, the Delegates present shall choose one of their members to be Chairman at the meeting. 9

Twenty Delegates shall form a quorum. Questions arising at the meeting shall be decided by a majority of votes but in the case of an equality of votes the Chairman shall have a second or casting vote. The Chairman shall preserve order and conduct the business of the meeting over which he is presiding as far as practicable in accordance with the standing orders. At every meeting the minutes of the preceding meeting shall be read and if approved signed by the Chairman Reports of officers and committees shall take precedence over correspondence and ordinary motions such reports to be read immediately after the minutes have been confirmed. No business shall be entertained at any meeting unless notice of the same shall have been given at the previous monthly meeting or seven days written notice given to the Secretary. This rule shall not apply to amendments or to motions arising from reports of officers and committees. In cases of immediate and urgent importance it shall be competent for two thirds of the members to suspend standing orders by vote for the purposes of taking such cases into consideration. EMERGENCY POWERS 1. - The Society shall have power to adjudicate between clubs or members in cases of dispute. 10

2. - So long as a benefit shall accrue to The Society in general, the Trustees be empowered to borrow from The Society’s Bankers by way of overdraft or loan for any term deemed suitable between the bank and the Trustees. Also that any borrowing be secured by a charge on any or all of the assets held in trust for The Society and that such borrowings be deemed to be taken on behalf of The Society. 3. - The committee shall, if deemed necessary, rescind, revise, or make new rules, providing that such alteration be passed by two thirds of the members present at the meeting. Such alterations must be submitted for acceptance or rejection at the following Special or Annual General Meeting. 4. - A special emergency committee, comprising the officers of The Society, together with the chairman, Vice Chairman and the secretaries of the Standing Sub Committees, shall have the power to adjudicate and decide upon any matter for which provision is not made herein. But their decision shall be subject to confirmation or otherwise at the next Committee meeting. 5. - The General Purposes & Fisheries Management Committee shall have the power to impose any temporary ban on any society fisheries eg Keepnets, baits, wading or any other restrictions which may be necessary to protect the fish stocks or the fishery in general. These bans to be ratified at the next Delegates meeting. 11

GENERAL 1. - Any club desiring to change its name or headquarters must give notice in writing to the General Secretary and the matter shall be considered at the next Committee Meeting. 2. - All Society’s employees to be insured against accident. 3. - Rods and fishing tackle found on the river banks or near vicinity must be immediately reported to the General Secretary. MEMBERSHIP 1. - A member shall only be allowed to take out one membership book and after having one issued to him shall not be allowed to change it for one issued from any other Club during its current year. 2. - The membership book shall be out of date on 31st December of the year issued. 3. - A member shall only be allowed to sit on the Committee as a Delegate for the club from which he takes out his membership book. 4. - As a member you are entitled 3 guest passes per year at a cost of £7 each. Passes are available on the Leeds ASA website. They are available from the general office on a Monday and Friday evening, also from J.T Rodgers of Leeds LS15 7QG Tel 0113 2641195. Guest passes cannot be used at Topcliffe or Knotford Lagoon. 12

OFFICERS 1. - The officers and sub committees shall be appointed by the Committee for the ensuring year at a meeting to be held on the second Thursday in November. Delegates to be informed at the October delegates meeting of any member nominated for the position of trustee by the trustees subject to approval at the Annual General Meeting. The trustees shall be appointed at the Annual General Meeting and shall remain in office for 5 years. At The Annual General Meeting the senior trustee in length of service shall retire and a new Trustee will be appointed. 2. - Any member of The Society is eligible for election as an officer. CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS 1. - Nominations. The election of officers, Auditors and Committees shall be by ballot. A nomination sheet shall be posted on the notice board for at least a week prior to the General Meeting in November. (With the exception of Treasurer to be elected at the April delegates meeting). Any member of The Society is eligible for the position of Officer but Delegates only are eligible for the Committees. Each nomination must be proposed and seconded by two Delegates, or officers, who must sign the nomination sheet. No candidate shall be nominated for more than one office. The nomination sheet shall be taken down on Friday at 9.00 13

pm following the AGM and no names shall be placed on the sheet after this time. Nominations for any positions not filled will be taken from the floor at the November Delegates meeting. 2. - SCRUTINEERS The ballot shall be carried out under the direction of three scrutineers appointed by the Delegates of their meeting in October, but who may not be candidates for election. 3. - The ballot shall be held on the second Thursday in November, finally closing at 8.00pm. The scrutineers shall declare the result the same evening. In the event of a tie the names to be drawn by lot. 4. - WHO MAY VOTE Only Delegates or officers may vote in the above election. 5. - SCRUTINY – The scrutineers shall at the conclusion of the ballot, seal up the ballot papers and hand them to the Secretary, who shall retain them for 7 days. A scrutiny shall take place if a written demand be presented to the Secretary within 7 days from the close of the ballot, signed by not less than 20 Delegates. The scrutiny shall be carried out by three fresh scrutineers, to be named by the officers. DUTIES 1. - The Secretarial Duties of The Society shall be discharged by a General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary. The General Secretary and Assistant General 14

Secretary shall receive an Annual Remuneration. 2. - (1) The Treasurer shall receive an Annual Honorarium. (2) The Secretary of Finance Committee, General Purposes & Fisheries Management Committee Secretary shall receive an Honorarium. This remuneration to be paid at the end of the Financial Year. (3) Membership Secretaries shall receive a grant which shall be paid quarterly. 4) The General Secretary, President, Treasurer, Match Secretary, Water Booking Secretary, Membership Secretary, G.P & F.M.C Secretary, Finance Secretary, Fisheries Liaison Officer. Secretary, shall receive a subsistence allowance for expenses incurred whilst on Society Business. That each of the Societies Trustees receive a grant per year to cover out of pocket expenses. LIFE MEMBERS 1. - Life members (not to exceed thirty at any one period) may be elected by the Delegates, subject to approval at the Annual General Meeting. They shall be allowed to vote at meetings of the Committee but may attend only those Standing Sub-Committees from which they are elected. Nominations to be made only at the September meeting and the election take place at the October meeting. That members proposed as life members should have a minimum of 10 years working service to the Society before being considered for life membership. 2. - They shall declare at the commencement of the 15

season the Club whose auspices they desire to fish. Their membership of the Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers’ Club shall be paid for by this Society. COMMITTEE 1. - The business and affairs of The Society shall be conducted by a Committee of Management, consisting of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, General Secretary, Match Secretary, Water Booking Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, five Trustees and the Delegates. The Officers should be ex officio members of all Committees and Sub-Committees. The meetings of this Committee of Management shall be held in the club on the last Thursday in each month, except the November and December meetings which shall be on the second Thursday. No delegates meeting in March. 2. - That each Club taking out five or more adult yearbooks shall be entitled to two delegates, and one additional delegate for 21 books and one additional delegate for every additional 20 members. The number of delegates shall be computed from the Club’s previous year’s membership. All Clubs shall send a delegate. Delegates to be elected for the ensuing year not later than 31st October. 3. - Any Club failing to return by October 31st each year the Club Registration Form shall be deemed to have lapsed membership and shall have to re-apply for membership and 16

pay a new entrance fee. 4. - Any Club may elect a delegate to substitute another one: the General Secretary to be advised of such change. 5. - The Committee shall have power to fine, suspend or expel any member offending against these Rules. Any such suspension or expulsion shall be binding upon any affiliated Club to which the member belongs. The parent Club of any offender shall, if deemed necessary, be punished along with the offender, if they have not recorded a reasonable attendance at the Delegate meetings prior to the offence. 6. - Any delegate arriving after 8.30 pm will not have their attendance registered. 7. - Any delegate leaving a Delegates’ Meeting before 9.30 pm or at the end of the meeting whichever is the earlier shall not have their attendance registered. 8. - The Committee shall have the power to consider the case of any Club offending against these Rules, or refusing to take satisfactory disciplinary action against any member or members so offending, and if the proposition receives the support of two-thirds of the Committee present, to expel such defaulting Club or take such other action as it may think fit. SUB COMMITTEES 1. - The Committee shall appoint from its members, Standing Sub-Committees, comprising a General Purposes 17

& Fisheries Management Committee and a Finance & Membership Committee. 2. - The Committee shall have power to appoint any Sub- Committee necessary to consider special business which may from time to time arise. 3. - All Standing and other Sub-Committees shall make their reports to the General Committee at each successive monthly Meeting. 4. - The Standing Sub-Committee shall elect their own Officers and if possible, on the evening of the first Committee meeting in each year. 5. - Special Sub-Committees shall elect their own officers. 6. - The Finance and Membership Committee shall consist of nine members elected by the Committee together with one member appointed by the General Purposes & Fisheries Management Committee from their respective members. 7. - The duties of the Finance Committee are to see that the funds are properly invested and accounted for and shall make any adjustment in charges as deemed necessary to ensure the financial security of the Society. 8. - After each Committee has scrutinised its Accounts and satisfied themselves as to the correctness thereof, and certified them correct, they shall pass the said Accounts to the Finance Committee for their scrutiny, confirmation and payment. 18

9. - The Treasurer shall be provided with a Petty Cash Account of £50 to meet urgent payments. 10. - Every account exceeding £10 shall be paid by cheque, signed by two Trustees, and countersigned by the Treasurer. 11. - Statements of each of the Society’s matches must be presented to the Finance Committee at their next meeting following such match. 12. - No Postages are to be paid except upon the production of a properly kept book recording an account of the same. 13. - Every fund or subscription raised by this Society must pass through the Finance Committee. 14. - The Committee shall cause true account to be kept of all moneys received and paid on behalf of The Society, and shall lay before the Annual General Meeting a statement of the income and expenditure for the past year. This statement shall bear the signature of the appointed Auditors. 15. - The General Purposes & Fisheries Management Committee shall be composed of twenty delegates. 16. - A Standing Sub-Committee may co-opt for special business any member of the Society if they think it is to the benefit of the Society to do so. 17. - No delegate shall be allowed to serve on more than one Sub-Committee, except as provided for in Rule 6 Page 20. 19

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 1. - The Annual General Meeting shall be held on the first Thursday in November to form, revise or confirm Rules and to transact the general business of The Society. 2. - The financial year of The Society shall start on 1st January and end on 31st December and the accounts shall be audited as soon as possible. 3. - All notices of motion to be discussed at the Annual General Meeting must be received in writing by the General Secretary. Closing dates for notices of motion to be September Delegates’ Meeting previous to the date of such annual meeting. 4. - All notices of motion for the A.G.M. shall be read out at the Delegates Meeting prior to the A.G.M. but no discussion shall take place on the proposition. 5. - A copy of Report and Agenda for the Annual General Meeting shall be sent to every Club Secretary at least fourteen days before the date of such Annual Meeting. 6. - Copy of the balance sheet to be sent to every club secretary as soon as possible before the scheduled A.G.M. 7. - Accounts to be presented to the membership on the last Thursday in March. 20

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING 8. - The Committee may, when they think fit, instruct the Secretary to convene a Special General Meeting of Officers and Committee, and also of members; or eight delegates or any Sub-Committee may request the Secretary to summon a Special Meeting of the Committee. 21

SOCIETY MATCH REGULATIONS 1. - That The Society’s matches shall be controlled by a Match Committee constituted as follows: The President, Vice-President, Treasurer, General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary and the Chairman and Secretary of each Standing Sub-Committee. 2. - In addition to The Society Match Committee, a Match Organising Committee of eight to be elected :- Nominations for this Committee to be at the November Delegates Meeting. It should not be necessary for members of this Committee to be Delegates. 3. - Delegates must have attended 50% of the possible attendances to be eligible to fish in the Delegates’ Match. 4. - Closing date for ticket sales of Sunday matches to be Friday 8.00 pm previous to the match. 5. - No member may purchase more than one entry ticket for his own use, and these tickets are not transferrable. Anyone breaking this Rule will be disqualified from taking a prize, and will render himself liable to expulsion from The Society. 6. - That only the Amalgamation Official Optional Sweepstake to be allowed on future Society matches. 7. - Competitors under the age of 16 years shall not be allowed to take part in any of the optional pools on 22

Society Matches. 8. - No member may fish for any TEAM TROPHY who does not enter as an ordinary competitor. 9. - Trophy Team entries to consist of four competitors and one reserve. Should the reserve be required to fish, the Match Official to be notified before the draw. 10. - Members may only fish for the Whitham, Yorkshire Evening Post and John Smith’s Trophies for the club from which they have obtained their Yearbook. 11. - Should the funds permit, a grant shall be made to all Society’s matches, such grant to be fixed at the committee meetings, except that for the Delegate’s Match and Skinn Trophy, which shall be fixed at the Annual General Meeting. 12. - An angler winning a prize must produce his Amalgamation Yearbook for the current year, previous to receiving such prize; failing this his prize will be withheld. 13. - That no angling footwear to be allowed in premises used as H.Q. for Society or Club matches. NOTICE TO CLUBS All Trophies to be returned to Headquarters by 30th August. Clubs or individuals failing to return trophies will be fined £10.00 per trophy. 23

SOCIETY MATCH RULES 1. - All fish caught are eligible for weighing with the exception of Lampreys, Crustaceans, Pike as per Rule, Match Rule and Regulations, not Club Matches. 2. - All competitors in Society’s and Club Matches MUST use a proper keepnet which may be positioned prior to time being called. Minimum size of keepnets 6ft 6 ins long x 15ins diameter or 6ft 6 ins long x 15ins x 10ins rectangular. 3. - The signal to commence fishing will be given by the Official, who will also give the signal to cease fishing. Duration of the match and approximate time of commencement will be announced at the draw. 4. - No competitor shall, in “swimming”, allow his float to travel beyond the next competitor’s peg, nor in any way disturb the water of the competitor above him. 5. - Any competitor leaving his peg during the match must withdraw his rod and line from the water. 6. - Competitors may assist their neighbours in landing fish. 7. - Anglers hooking a fish during the course of a match have 15 minutes to land said fish after the call of time. 8. - Competitors on being weighed-in will receive a duplicate of weight registered, which must be kept and produced in case of any dispute as to the correctness of 24

weight. 9. - A weigher-in having fish of his own to be weighed-in must call on his two nearest neighbours, and it shall be their duty to respond to the call and weigh the fish in for him, sign the book to this effect, and give the duplicate to the weigher carrier, who shall take charge of the same until the weigher-in has delivered his book to the Official, which must be done by all weighers-in as soon as possible after the weighing-in is accomplished. 10. - Any objection to any angler may be made before the match result is announced. All prizes given in cash, and not claimed within 14 days of distribution night will be forfeited and revert to The Society. 11. - In the event of any dispute, the weigher shall report full to the Match Committee, whose decision shall be final. The competitor concerned shall have the right to appear when his case is being considered. 12. - Competitors on being drawn may proceed to their ground and fix their tackle. That before the starting signal no competitor must on any account groundbait or loose feed the swim but will be allowed to wet a line, plumb the depth and test the float, mix and wet groundbait, clear the fishing ground of weed and obstructions and position a keepnet. On no account must a feeder be used to plumb the depth before the starting signal. 13. - When both sides of the river are staked out, 25

competitors are requested not to interfere with those on the opposite side by casting more than half way across. 14. - Wading to be allowed but must not exceed more than one metre from the river bank. 15. - A competitor must fish at his peg, which shall mean that a competitor be allowed to stand or sit at a position not more than a yard (metre) on either side of his peg. 16. - A competitor may only fish from a peg they have drawn, except when given permission from a Match Official to fish a different peg. 17. - Each competitor to use only one rod, one line, one hook (treble or double hooks not allowed). But may have other Rods and Tackles assembled ready for use in a vertical position behind the competitor. 18. - All groundbait may be thrown in by hand, or by the use of baitpults, throwing sticks, swim feeders, bait droppers and baitcups, but no other mechanical or remote control means of projecting groundbait is allowed. 19. - The use of Plugs, Spinners, Live or Dead Fish is banned on all Society or Open matches. No re-hooking for Pike be allowed on Society or Open matches. No Pike be allowed to be weighed-in on Society or Open matches. 26

CLUB MATCH REGULATIONS 1. - That a booking fee of £15.00 per length be charged on all Society match lengths throughout the season, with no refunds. Non-Members booking fee to be equivalent to the price of the general day ticket fee (minimum of 10 pegs – See page 53 – Kippax Park and Moor Monkton). No match bookings shall be transferrable from one club to another. 2. - No Club may book matches from the General Office on Fridays. 3. - No match shall be staked out for Sunday competitions on any of our fishing grounds after 10.30 am. Metal pegs and nails must not be used for staking out. 4. - That Clubs booking any of The Society’s waters for matches, and deciding later not to use them, should notify the Match Secretary seven days prior to the date of the match, or be dealt with by the G.P.C. 5. - Club matches on society waters must commence staking either at the top or bottom of the match length booked. 6. - Affiliated leagues may book matches from the 1st Monday in August. 7. - No Club may book two different fisheries for the same 27

date. The maximum number of pegs which an affiliated Club may book shall be the equivalent of their membership plus 50% or 30 pegs whichever is the greater. 8. - Clubs failing to control their members or visitors at their matches on The Society’s waters will be liable to a fine, or suspension, or both, according to the gravity of the offence. 9. - Affiliated clubs may book three Sunday or Saturday matches from the 1st Monday in September, then book unlimited matches from the 1st Monday in November. From February 1st Non-Member Clubs may book matches on Society waters. 10. - Bank Holidays will be classed as Saturdays with regard to match bookings. 11. - That no angling footwear be allowed in premises used as H.Q. for Society or club Matches. 28

CLUB MATCH RULES 1. - All competitors in Society’s and Club Matches MUST use a proper keepnet which may be positioned prior to time being called. Minimum size of keepnets 6ft 6ins long x 15ins diameter or 6ft 6ins long x 15ins x 10ins rectangular. 2. - The signal to commence fishing will be given by the Match Official, who will also give the signal to cease fishing. Duration of the match and approximate time of commencement will be announced at the draw. 3. - Wading to be allowed on Club matches. Competitor not to exceed more than one yard from banking. The following venues to be excluded: Ulleskelf and Hammerton. 4. - No competitor shall, in ‘swimming’, allow his float to travel beyond the next competitor’s peg, nor in any way disturb the water of the competitor above him. The pegs shall not be placed less than twelve yards apart. 5. - Any competitor leaving his peg during the match must withdraw his rod and line from the water. 6. - Competitors may assist their neighbours in landing fish. 7. - Anglers hooking a fish during the course of a match have 15 minutes to land said fish after the call of time. 8. - All fish caught are eligible for weighing with the 29

exception of Lampreys, Crustaceans, Pike as per Rule, Match Rules and Regulations not Club Matches. 9. - Competitors on being weighed-in will receive a duplicate of weight registered, which must be kept and produced in case of any dispute as to the correctness of weight. 10. - Any objection to any angler may be made before the match result is announced. 11. - In the event of any dispute, the weigher shall report fully to the Match Committee, whose decision shall be final. The competitor concerned shall have the right to appear when his case is being considered. 12. - Competitors under the age of 16 years shall not be allowed to take part in any of the Club Pools. 13. - No transistor radios and cassettes allowed on Club or Society matches, except personal radios and cassettes. 14. - Competitors on being drawn may proceed to ground and fix their tackle. That before the starting signal no competitor must on any account groundbait or loose feed the swim but will be allowed to wet a line, plumb the depth and test the float, mix and wet groundbait, clear the fishing ground of weed and obstructions and position a keepnet. On no account must a feeder be used to plumb the depth before the starting signal. 30

CONDITIONS AND REGULATIONS OF THE WHITHAM TROPHY 1. - To be called ‘The Whitham Trophy’. 2. - That the team having the highest combined weight shall be declared winners. 3. - To be fished for by Clubs forming the Amalgamated Society. 4. - Each Club shall pay the appropriate fee for any number of its members not exceeding four, and all entries shall close and Entrance Fee be paid at the time fixed by the committee, and these entries are not transferrable. 5. - The Trophy to be held for the ensuing year by the Club, the members of which have been declared winners. Trophy to remain at Headquarters. 6. - The Trophy cannot be won outright. 7. - The name of the club and full particulars of the match shall each year be inscribed on a silver plate attached to the margin. Competitor’s Entrance Fees to be devoted to this and any other incidental expenses connected with the remove, etc. of the Trophy. Any balance to be handed to the General Fund of the Amalgamated Society. 8. - In the event of the Amalgamation becoming dissolved, the Trophy to revert to the donor. 32

“THE WHITHAM TROPHY” was presented to the Society by Messrs Whitham in 1890, to be fished for annually by teams from the Club belonging to the Amalgamation. For some years four prizes have been presented to the members of the winning team, whilst six or more prizes have been presented to individual runners-up. 33
