Be Heard MyCom Youth Voice Awards November 1, 2017 Our PerformersEl Sistema@RaineyFounded in 2011, El Sistema@Rainey is the result of a collaborationbetween Rainey Institute and Cleveland Orchestra violinist IsabelTrautwein. The core focus of ES@R is the orchestra as a community,promoting not only musical and instrumental skills, but also respect,responsibility, self-control, patience, perseverance, cooperation, disciplineand increased self-esteem. These skills are important for becoming astrong orchestra team member and essential for becoming a self-confident and successful human being.Cleveland Public Theatre; Brick City Theatre; CuyahogaMetropolitan Housing Authority; Lakeview Terrace:Walking Up Splintered StairsAn original Brick City Theatre play that honors the lives andlegacy of great African-American leaders, Louis and Carl B.Stokes. Created by Brick City Theatre-Lakeview Terraceyouth and elder participants, in collaboration with BrickCity Theatre teaching artists: Faye Hargate, Tecia Wilson,Dionne Atchison and Dezhanay Simmons. Brick CityTheatre is one of Cleveland Public Theatre’s core educationprograms and is conducted in partnership with CuyahogaMetropolitan Housing Authority. With a pilot grant fromthe Cleveland Foundation’s new mastery-based artsinitiative, Brick City Theatre is undertaking a threefoldincrease in 2018. Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word The Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word are a performance troupe, (founded by Bethune-Cookman Graduate, Honey Bell-Bey) is comprised of African- American males ages 12-19who study the art of performance poetry. These gentlemen defy the odds of hailing from high–risk environments of poverty and schools in academic failure in Cleveland, Ohio.They allow poetry and the power of the pen to become the living tool that they use to keep them focused and on the path of excellence in school,at home, and within the community.
