The Rossmoyne Quarterly | Term 2, 2023 Inspiring Leaders The Rossmoyne Student leadership team was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and participate in an Emerging Leaders Program with Scott Miller, CEO and founder of BOP Industries. The program is designed to assist aspiring young leaders to build and apply their leadership skills as they prepare to lead the next generation in work and life. Scott Miller is a remarkable 22-year-old entrepreneur. Acknowledged as a top 30 under 30 business leader for ANZ, the 2021 Young Small Business Leader for Queensland, and an APAC Inspiring Young Leader. Scott's journey began in Year 9 when he started BOP Industries with friends, initially selling keyrings. Now, Scott leads a prominent Australian education company. Along the way, Scott has had incredible experiences, including interacting with prime ministers, CEOs, and impacting over 80,000 students across 36 locations worldwide. Thanks for visiting Scott! The Rossmoyne Quarterly | Term 2, 2023 Growing grit Addressing the topic of \"grit\" a panel of remarkable speakers from the medical industry visited our school to share inspiring stories to our student leaders and medical science students. The panel included Warren Pavey, a cardiac anaesthetist and clinician scientist, who shared his expertise in cardiac anaesthesia and research, inspiring perseverance in the medical field. Agneta Geldenhuys, a cardiac surgeon, discussed the importance of determination and grit in pursuing a medical career. Rebecca Hahn, an intensive care nurse and nurse scientist, highlighted the challenges of working in critical care and the resilience required to thrive in such settings. Colleen Ashby, a heart transplant recipient, shared her personal journey, showcasing the strength and determination needed to overcome health obstacles. We are so very grateful to these incredible speakers for their inspiring stories, leaving our students motivated to cultivate their own resilience. Page 50

The Rossmoyne Quarterly | Term 2, 2023 Chemistry Competition A team of Year 12 Rossmoyne students recently participated in the RACI Titration Competition at Curtin University, showcasing their exceptional laboratory skills and dedication to chemistry. The event brought together young minds from Western Australia, armed with their lab coats, pipettes, and an unwavering passion for scientific exploration! The students efforts were inspiring, as they displayed excellent teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills during the competition. Not only did they impress the supervisions, but they also gained invaluable experience working in a university grade laboratory. Page 52

The Rossmoyne Quarterly | Term 2, 2023 In the community We would like to acknowledge the following students for their diligence and dedication to their community activities. A BIG congratulations to all of you for some outstanding achievements. Dermott K (Year 9) participated in a Seatrek sailing program with Scouts WA, which culminated in a 5-day sailing voyage in Shark Bay. The Seatrek sailing program is conducted by the Department of Transport's Marine Education Boatshed and is a Provider-developed Endorsed Program recognised by the Department of Education. Chelsea C (Year 11) is completing a Certificate III in Events and was fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis in Perth recently as part of the course. Jaykerm K (Year 12) placed 18th individually in Secondary Division at the School Chess League Central Zonal competition in May. Jaykerm’s result helped Rossmoyne place 2nd overall in the Secondary Division. Pino O (Year 10) represented WA at the 2023 Judo Australia National Championship on the Gold Coast. Kaelyn D (Year 8), Tyren A (Year 10), Sean K (Year 9) were selected to represent Western Australia in the 2023 Volleyball Championship. These students competed at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Canberra. Bradley B (Year 9) competed in the ASEAN International Jujitsu competition in Singapore. Cameron B (Year 7) has been lucky enough to be part of a winning baseball team over the Easter break and has qualified for the national competition in Sydney. Joshua H (Year 9) has been selected to play for Australia at the Asian Volleyball Confederation U16 Volleyball Championships, to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan this July. Jemma G (Year 8) has been selected to represent WA for baseball in the u15s team to compete at the Pony Girls World Series in Japan. Kiefer L (Year 12) has been selected in the Japanese national under 19 cricket team and will play in U19 World Cup qualifiers in Darwin. Kayla N (Year 7), Carmen C (Year 10), Charlize D (Year 9) were selected as a member of the Bees – Basic Novice Synchronised Ice Skating Team – part of Ice Synchro WA’s competitive teams for 2023. Nathaniel C (Year 8) competed at t Karate Australian Open. Annie W (Year 7) was selected to compete in the Oceania International Figure Skating Competition. Reagan T (Year 10)won 1st place at the Oceania Youth Chess Championship U16, which was held in Canberra. He gained 9pts out of 9 rounds (winning all the 9 games he played). Page 55
