NEW MARBLE collection Our classic Marble Collection just got a new twist with 4 fresh and exciting colors to choose from! Mint, Blush, Lemon Cream, Cobalt. Contrasting colors and patterns create a surprising composition and part of its appeal is that each design is unique.
CLASSIC MARBLE collection Marble Collection is produced by using the traditional marbling technique that emerged in Anatolia and dates back to the 15th century. Coincidence and the hand of the artisan play a strong role in the creation of each pattern and the collection balances on the border between art, craft and design.
MEDITERRANEAN collection Our yearning for a slower life led us to design a collection that takes us back to our roots. Freshly prepared food, “al fresco dining” with friends and family and the waves of the pure crystal Mediterranean Sea take the lead role as a source of inspiration for this collection. Traditionally produced in Puglia, splatter patterns were used in everyday Italian ceramics. We created a new line that takes after this traditional technique and introduces a new approach of using splatter only on the rims of the products as well as on the inside. The black and white colors emphasize the contrast between pattern and solid; light and dark. The serene contrast between blue and white gives a distinct character and a refreshing culinary perception.
ABOUT OUR BRAND We take a contemporary and innovative approach to classic enamelware and aim to produce a wide selection of premium quality tableware with artisanal touches. BORNN was founded in 2015 by two sisters Başak Onay and Öykü Thurston who both have backgrounds in creative industries. When they were global nomads growing up in Tokyo, Barcelona and Los Angeles away from their home town of Istanbul, they were exposed to different cultures and craftsmanship, which aspired them to create their own company that brings together years of developed skills and local heritage. BORNN takes its inspiration from the fascinating history of enamelware and by using traditional manufacturing techniques, aims to produce modern, unique and hand crafted pieces to help keep these skills alive. All of our collections are produced in Istanbul by master artisans and we seek to empower our community by developing new ways for them to use their years gained knowledge.
ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS Enamelware is a time honored and a time consuming process made by fusing glass onto heavy-gauge steel. Raw steel bodies are machine mulled or hand-formed, glazed and then kiln fired to create a smooth surface. We fire our products using a traditional kiln which creates very high firing temperatures. Depending on where an individual item is placed in the kiln, the degree impacts the colour intensity of the product giving each design a unique beauty and a point of difference.
MAKING OF OUR PRODUCTS Every piece in our Marble, Island Breeze, Colorama, Kids & Family and Mediterranean collections is hand made individually. The patterns differ on each item showing the marks of its journey. We see these differences as something special that gives our products a unique character to be enjoyed over time.
