Professional CAR SHOW Where do we get our inspirations from when thinking about building a custom Hot Wheels? For many it has to be the custom car shows and what better than the legendary Sema Show in Las Vegas. We have selected some of our favourite custom builds from the past shows that we attended, to hopefully provide you with inspiration for your next custom Hot Wheels build. We have picked a very electic mix, which have a great variety of customisations you can adapt to your builds. ATRHEEYCOHUAULLPEFNOGRE? Are you up for replicating any of these incredible Street Machines? Each one will be featured in an upcoming issue, including our website and social channels. Tag us into the photos/video you post and copy the #diecastheroes so we can find you.
This insane combination of a 1993 Isuzu Transporter with AE86, is the work of Miles Shinneman’s. This was a truly unexpected build at the show. This 1967 classic Ford Mustang Fastback got our attention, with it’s off road conversion, built by K.C. formerly Gas Monkey Garage & Mike Finnegan from Roadkill. The original Big Foot! We’ve not seen a custom Hot Wheels built like this yet. Will you make one? Professional
164 DIECAST CUSTOMS Yes, SEMA got a 1/64 side kick which had its debut a few years ago and we love the fact that this Show’s outline is simple: NO judging, NO trophies, ALL in good fun to help the 1:64 scale community come together! We support that, cause we all are in the same hobby. Follow them on instagram at @164semashow Starting our throwback with @50mooneys. The builder is unmistakably inspired by anything Mooneyes. His stand for 164 SEMA 2020 had an eye-catching era of modern, old, lifted and lowered. Walking virtually on from@mossrod and @50mooneyes, we have a collaboration piece of a collection of VW Customs by @kool51designs & @bo_toichi808. True to SEMA style, they placed their custom pieces onto a red carpet. A combination of slammed trucks, Volkswagens and even a custom BoneShaker! @moss_rods is a Montana based gear-head. Like so many he loves his 1:1 customs. True to his area of living of Rocky Mountains, his 164 SEMA show pieces look ready to be used on the road.
Another collaboration piece and like we are used to from SEMA all must be named: As you have seen from SEMA, with the ready to Builder(s): @garasi_koe, @binks_garage, @adhe.ar_works, @mottandmonn rock also come the prim and proper as well as the show pieces. CHOUTSWTHOEMELSS PRESENTS 164ARTAKE Artit Jaiton shows us all that turning a bad situation into a winning strategy with his skills, we all can make a difference when things get tough. I am actually an interior designer creating architectural models for a business. In 2019 was a bad year, we had too low revenue and I was trying to find another revenue stream to pay my staff. One of my friends suggested that I try dioramas for the 1:64 scale car market, which is similar to the architectural models we already do. And that is the beginning and the end of how I got into customising diecast cars as a hobby. Before you ask, yes, I still create some 1:64 scale dioramas for sale too.
Of course, when you do something NAME: Artit Jaiton (Nickname: Ake) long enough, you develop your own LOCATION: Thailand style. Personally I love creating my IG: @164ArtAke diecasts looking like a real car. So I YT: @164Art Ake normally focus on scaling, finding the right portion of any material to use for customizing or even trying to make the right portion of the gap between the door and the body of the car. My tip: I believe that anyone can do anything they want. So any customizer can customize anything they want to. Yesterday I might not have known how to paint and polish a custom car to get a nice shiny diecast, but today I might find out a way to do just that. I always keep a lookout for more information, watching YouTube Videos, studying and learning more from others work in a Facebook group and reaching out to asking friends how they do this and that. And of course, I go through trial and error myself.
CHOUTSWTHOEMELSS PRESENTS LAYN720 Richard Gonzalez has had the passion for painting Hot Wheels since he could walk and talk…Fast forward to today and he is making some epic builds. I always liked painting my Hot Wheels when I was little. That led to building model cars and planes. Then In 2012 I did see other people on Hot Wheels own website customising Hot Wheels and I loved it. I gave it a try and was hooked ever since. My Tip: When chopping a Hot Wheels apart, I glue it back together with superglue and metal dust.
