a message from our executive directorDear Friends,Some of the most profound moments I have experienced at My New Red Shoeshave been those spent with the children and families we serve. The opportunityto learn their stories, share in their joy as they open our gift bags, and witness theimpact that you – our community of caring and generous supporters and partners –have helped to make possible is a privilege.Kayla, an elementary school student who we served this summer experienced theloss of everything she owned and loved, including her clothes and shoes, following adevastating fire that pushed her family into homelessness. Without the resources toprovide her daughter with proper shoes and clothing, Kayla’s mother worried thatshe would not be able to send her daughter to school at the start of the year. Kaylaworried that her classmates would see that she was homeless and was anxiousabout making friends and fitting in. But thanks to the generosity of supporters likeyou, when the doors to her school opened in late August, Kayla was able to skip intoclass outfitted in her brand new shoes and clothes and take her seat alongside herpeers. With a smile on her face, Kayla was proud, happy, confident, and ready tolearn and make new friends!Since 2006, My New Red Shoes has helped to improve the educational experienceand quality of life for more than 35,000 children and youth, just like Kayla, who arestruggling with homelessness and poverty.
