By & by he kept notching up serving the people as a vibrant leader of the youth. In 1993 assembly elec on he made his mark in the ac ve poli cs having elected as the legislator from Patan. In the next elec on he registered victory again and was appointed as the Minister Of State for the Public Grievance Department in Digvijaya Singh's regime of then Madhya Pradesh. Later on he was given the por olio of the Transport Minister. Post the bifurca on of the state in Ajit Jogi's cabinet he was allo ed the office of Minister Of Revenue being the first in Chha sgarh to hold such por olio. In the general elec ons of 2004 & 2009 he could not make it to the parliament & also lost his stronghold- Patan cons tuency in the 2008 assembly elec on. Raja Bahadur Birendra Bahadur Singh. Khairagarh, previously a Zamindari, was elevated to a Princely State in 1898, and was governed by him. The place is located in the Bachelli DENSE FORESTforest area in the Phullgutta village. There are many stories relating to this village that adds up to one’s anticipation. Bhogami tribal families of South Bastar consider their origins to be 3000 FEET-HIGH PEAK the female priests of Dholakta (Dholkal). It is said that the war of Lord Ganesha and Parshurama was at the peak. During this war, a tooth of Lord Ganesha was broken. In the memory of this incident, Chhindak Nagvanshi kings established the statue of Ganesh on the summit. Since Ganesha ji’s teeth were broken by Parshurama’s fronts, hence the name of the village below the peak of the hill was named “Phraspal”. According to archaeologists, the rare Ganesh statue, established on the Dholkal peak, is said to be of the 10th Century. This statue was seated in the Lalitasan Pose. The Dholkal Ganesh was carved during the 9th and 10th century, during the reign of the Nagvanshi Kings of Bastar. It was a six feet tall monolith weighing more than 500 kilos. Carved out of solid block of granite, the idol is a divine sight of elephant headed, pot bellied, Lord Ganesha standing on its majestic circular perch right at the peak of Dhol (drum) shaped mountain, Dholkal in the thick and impenetrable jungles of Bastar in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state. Revered by the local tribals, the idol (Moorthi) was first discovered by the British geologist H.Crookshank, while surveying the area before opening the Bailadila mines, way back in 1943. The Ganesh idol again vanished from public memory, till a local journalist rediscovered it in 2012 while on a trek. Dholkal is a perfect spot for trekking, camping, hiking and adventure sports. Walking through the conifers into the deep forests, and passing through the rocky built of the sliced rocks gives you an immense feeling of being in a close proximity with the nature. There are huge anthills and trees which are inhabited by small creatures and animals including snakes that can be caught hiding in the holes between the rocky slices of the mountains. The pleasant fragrance of jasmine gives you an exotic feel of nature’s love for yourself, too. As the gusty air chases the clouds, the interest and curiosity grows to reach the peak having a glimpse of the 1000 yr old idol of Ganesha that stands 3000 feet above the ground level. Dholkal remains an unexplored part of the interiors of the Bastar region in the state of Chhattisgarh which has caught a lot of attention because of its recognition as one of the oldest holy shrines of lord Ganesha, defining how holy and sacred things can be discovered from the ruins in a dense forest area like the Dholkal.
