Mohawk Life Mohawk Life Letter from Publisher Kyla Obert the Publisher EditorF a-la-la-la-la, it is the most wonderful time of the year! Holiday Teri Hebert gatherings, time with family, kids out of school, and gift Ad Sales shopping are just a few of my favorite things. Yes, that’s not a Mike Obert typo, I said shopping. Although I don’t love the shopping crowds, I Nancy Luttinger do love to hunt for the perfect gift. I spend months thinking about Photographer who I will be buying gifts for, and weeks researching the best deal. I Ashley Bass love picking a child to buy for from a local Angel tree, follow blogs Designer that research the hottest gifts, and get alerts from Amazon. My husband even says that Gia Mari L. I live, breathe, and obsess Maria Harris, Wilson Allen, Joan Lombar over gift giving. It’s my thing. Special Thanks Ethan Hunt, Brad Fowler, I also consider myself a responsible gift giver, unless, of course, you’re my niece or David and Jackie Gibbs, Hadley, nephew, in which case you get the loudest, biggest, or most obnoxious gift. I consider Erin and Todd Pinkston and Elise Bissell that a friendly payback for the many years of life with four brothers. But if you live For Advertising Questions, please email in my house, I take the time to think about how gifts that I give will affect our family [email protected] in the long run. For instance, that doll that wets and cries—I think I’ve changed my For Editoral Requests, please email fair share of diapers, thank you. Or that robotic dinosaur that RAWR’s any time it [email protected] senses movement—that will most certainly scare me to death if I walk upon it in the [email protected] middle of the night. Or how about the video game console my son wants—will I ever Mohawk Life see my kid again if I get him that? So this year, like every other, I’ve spent many hours PO Box 835433 on my gift giving list. But there is one thing I know is missing from my list, a dog. Richardson, TX 75083 This September, our 13-year old miniature schnauzer rescue, passed away. We know we gave her the best and most loved life that she wouldn’t have otherwise had, but 2701 Custer Parkway, Suite 823 she gave way more to us. That’s what pets do, give unconditional love (and slobbery Richardson, TX 75080 kisses). So, as we keep our eyes and hearts open to finding another furry member to adopt, my heart goes out to all of the pets waiting to go to their forever family. Managing Partners And especially at this time of year, where a pet is on many wish lists, we hope you’ll Mike and Kyla Obert consider rescuing! In fact, you don’t have to go far to make wishes come true—Take Me Home Pet Rescue is just around the corner! Principals Campbell Kerr and Dustin Shaffer Letter from the EditorI love the spirit of the holidays. From the food that seems to only ever make an appearance this time of year. To decorations. To music. To seeing family and friends you don’t see as often as you’d like. We are thankful for so much, joyous just for the sake of it, and in a spirit of giving to those who might be lacking in thankfulness and joy this time of year. The holidays can be hard for some. But we hope this issue of Mohawk Life adds to the joy of your holidays. You’ll learn how to help a retired K-9 dog. You’ll meet a Golden Couple who has lived in the Mohawk area for 39 years. And you’ll get to know a local pet rescue (Take Me Home Pet Rescue). I rescued my furry family member more than two years ago from another family who couldn’t keep her. I can’t imagine life without Quinn, my beagle mix mutt. She’s well-known on Facebook, popular among friends, and even has her own annual “She Is Quinn” Calendar that is always in high demand. The holidays are often a time when people give the gift of a pet for the holidays, so in these pages you’ll read some tips on what to consider when choosing a new furry family member. My hope for you and your family this holiday season is that if you choose a pet, you will choose wisely and love him or her fiercely for life. Merry Christmas, from Teri and Quinn! 2 www.MohawkLife.com
