L. Brian Jenkins Founder and President of Entrenuity, NFP and StartingUp Business Solutions, Inc. L. Brian Jenkins is the Founder and President of Entrenuity, NFP and StartingUp Business Solutions, Inc. His efforts have successfully provided entrepreneurship education training and small business development for over 20 years in Chicago, nationally, and abroad. He is responsible for the training of thousands of urban youth and leaders in the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and character/integrity- based business operations. Brian has served as adjunct faculty at Moody Bible Institute, Illinois State University’s College of Business, The Urban Ministry Institute in Wichita, KS, North Park University’s School of Adult Learning, and Wheaton College’s Center for Urban Engagement, focusing on entrepreneurship education. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Religion; additionally, he earned his Master of Arts in Theology from Wheaton College Graduate School. Brian is the author of StartingUp Now: 24 Steps to Launch Your Own Business and the soon to be released, Know More Nonprofits. Brian has been married for 23 years to Dr. Jenai Jenkins and they’ve been blessed with 3 children—Bria (21), Braxton (18), and Brooke (10). Brian and his family live in the Austin Community on Chicago’s west side.

IDENTIFY SECURE MOBILIZE Investors Capital Black and Latinx Entrepreneurs Mark Soderquist Mark Soderquist is a Pastor at Westlawn Gospel Chapel and a 30-year native in the Chicago West Side neighborhood, Lawndale. Mark speaks and consults on issues ranging from race, diversity, justice, poverty, economic development and the role of the church in the context of the city. He serves on a number of nonprofit boards and a private foundation. Mark has distinguished himself as “The First” to support many of Entrenuity’s efforts, including the mox.E Collaborative to help coach, connect and capitalize minority entrepreneurs.

SPOTLIGHT 3,778 Kari Pendleton bakes by kari Manager, Overflow Coffee Bar Sold at Overflow Owner, bakes by kari Self-proclaimed coffee nerd and introvert 2018 Kari Pendleton was born on the South Side of Chicago, but grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. As a teenager, Kari lovingly kept her family’s home supplied with fresh baked, traditional Scottish shortbread and dreamed of one day owning her own bakery. With over 10 years experience in the coffee industry and a genuine passion for hospitality and baking, Kari joined the Entrenuity team as the Manager of Overflow Coffee Bar. Having recently launched bakes by kari, she’s also diligently pursuing her entrepreneurial dreams and keeps Overflow supplied with delicious fresh-baked quiche, cookies and pies. Kari’s unyielding commitment to excellence and consistency has Overflow’s specialty coffee tasting better than ever—an excellent accompaniment to her fresh-baked treats.

OVERFLOW In January 2018, Entrenuity bought Overflow Coffee Bar— an established coffee shop which conveniently shares the same building as Entrenuity. Overflow seeks to add value to the community, by providing a warm and inviting environment for entrepreneurs to gather, work, network and provide additional jobs. Overflow is now black-owned, female led and predominantly minority female staffed—a refreshing change in a normally, male-dominated coffee industry. Overflow AFTERDARK launched in 2018. It’s purpose is to give local musicians an intimate platform to perform, while allowing local small businesses to sell their wares. 2 21 Spring & Fall Facilitators Trainings Trained Entrenuity trains individuals to teach the art of entrepreneurship using the StartingUp Now Curriculum. Facilitators learn how to operate an 8-16 week course, guiding new and potential entrepreneurs through the business planning process. Trainings are tailored to address specific facilitation needs, such as teaching youth, adults or returning citizens. Peter Watts Peter Watts pastors Rock Church in Los Angeles, CA and is Regional Vice President for World Impact’s West Coast Region. Peter also leads a network of churches and leaders in the Reformed Church of America and the Christian Reformed Church. He is the catalyst for Gospel Ventures—a Los Angeles organization that trains up leaders, pastors, and entrepreneurs for social impact. Peter uses the SUN curriculum to help churches increase their effectiveness and sustainability for the communities they serve.
