A Restaurant Chef usually works full-shifts and prepares food for other people as a form of service. They usually work in close quarters to prepare food as fast as possible in designated areas for the type of food they’re preparing. Restaurant cooks can also set the foods, prices, and keep record of supplies in a restaurant. Some people can also hire personal chefs who will serve people at home personally and sometimes cator public events in that personal household.
Real life cooks report that their working conditions include them constantly handle things from 20 lbs up to 50 lbs in weight. You will also be inside a building most if not all of the time while working as a cook. Working in this field also requires multiple repetitive motions and the ability to be physically flexible due to confined spaces within your work area. You also need to constantly hold, control, and feel all sorts of objects most of the time. Conditions in the work environment as a cook also includes extremely hot conditions like 90o Fahrenheit and even as cold as 30o Fahrenheit.
In order to be a cook at a restaurant, you need certain skills in order to qualify for the application first. Your resume should more than likely include monitoring skills in order to detect if something is wrong before the head chef does so or before it’s too late. Active listening is also quite important to understand and remember instructions for preparing a certain dish and what the expectations might be for that dish. Critical thinking and fast thinking is also a thing that an employer would look for in your job application due to you needing to use your understanding of something correctly and swiftly in a tricky situation.
