Open HouseOpen House helps to communicate to parents the areas their childrenare excelling in and to give them specific ideas of how to improve up-on their child’s performance in school. Open House should be usedas a platform to make a lasting bond with the parent to increase thelikelihood of academic success for their child. Open House shouldnot be used as a venue to acknowledge the flaws and inabilities ofstudents, but as a stepping stone to foster improvement within eachchild. With the end of the school year not too far off, it’s important to re-member that Open House can play a very important role in a stu-dent’s development and Academic success. Unfortunately, this rela-tionship is often overlooked, ignored or undervalued. The truth is, teachers and parents often see different aspects of a stu-dent’s personality. Only by maintaining an open dialogue and com-paring notes on the student’s achievements or behavior can theseperspectives be useful for both. When parents take advantage of Open House and other opportuni-ties to speak with teachers, it often allows parents to learn of anychallenges — academic or otherwise — their child might be having.By the same token, parents can let the teacher know of any specialcircumstances at home that might have some bearing on the stu-dent’s performance or behavior.Let’s face it; kids today face a lot of pressure in school. When par-ents and teachers work together to try and provide the best environ-ment for learning, the child stands to benefit the most.
