KATHAMRUT-The Story Retold Everyone loves to listen to stories. There is hardly anyone among us who has not heard a story during our childhood. Stories keeps children engaged and let them feel that they are also participating in the process of story telling. Language learning, any learning for that matter, happens when children are engaged in meaning mak- ing activities. If story telling is made into an interesting experience and fun filled activity where the listeners also participate in telling, guessing, manipulating, it could be a joyous learning experience. Every Thursday parents are invited to school to tell stories to the students.

PARENTS CORNER WHY SHOULD I BRUSH AT NIGHT? Mischa hated brushing her teeth at night. It was a constant source of argument between mother and daughter. She would always crib. “I am going to brush in the morning then why should I brush at night?” One fine day, Mischa’s mom came up with a solution. Mischa had a bad habit of leaving half of the milk in the morning and running away to school bus. So, one day when Mischa, yet again left her half drunk glass of milk on the table, her mom for a change did not clear the table and left the glass as it was. In the evening when Mischa asked for her glass of milk her mom promptly asked her to finish her morning milk first. Mischa picked the glass and cringed cause by now the milk had curdled in the glass. Yuk! I cant have that, its already spoilt. Her mother did not react and just contin- ued her work. Mischa had no milk that evening. The next day morning the same happened. When Mischa asked for her milk her mom again asked her to finish her previous day milk which was sitting on the table. By now the milk was complete- ly spoilt and there were even small fruitflies buzzing around it. Mischa screamed “ how can you expect me to drink that milk its been there for the whole day and night, there are all sorts of insects on it”? Misch’s mom smiled and responded “if a glass of milk can get spoilt and grow insects in 24 hrs what do you think hap- pens to all the chips, chocolate, food and milk that you eat in a day and is stuck on your teeth until the next day morning when you brush? Don’t you think that in your mouth too, food which is stuck to your teeth gets spoilt and allows germs to grow there and spoil your teeth”? Mischa was shocked. She had never thought of it that way. For sure she constantly ate snacks at home and always refused to brush at night. The idea of worms in her teeth was repulsive. Mischa had learnt her lesson. From that day on Mischa always finished her milk and never missed brushing at night. By Dr. Sonia Bhat Mother of Aarya Deepak- KG 2 E
