FLAG DAY Thursday 2nd November marked theU.A.E. Flag Day. We alsofollowed the protocol of hoisting the flag at11am in our school wherein students and staffassembled and sang the UAE nationalanthem. Our school celebrated the UAEFlag day with great serenity and respect on2nd November, 2017 in the Schoolpremises. Students showed their love andrespect for the UAE flag through variousactivities like :

• The entire school came together to raisethe nation’s flag high in the school’s front yard.• The school choir led in singing the nation-al anthem whilst the flag was being raised.• KG1 to grade 1 students made the U.A.E. flag with their tiny hand prints and grades 2-5 held up the slogan ‘Raise it High… Raise it Proud’.• • Grades 5-9 had an orientation session by the UAE teacher about the importance of Flag-Day.The four-coloured flag represents meanings ofjustice, peace, tolerance, power and moderation.The UAE flag, a symbol of pride for allEmiratis, is created by using traditional pan-

Arab colours. It is a day of celebration,reflecting the symbol of unity, patriotism andloyalty to the UAE and its wise leader-ship, and adherence to the values of the unionestablished by the UAE's FoundingFathers. The flag is used at all nationalevents, religious, social, sports and others, inter- nally and externally. It represents citizens and symbolizes dignity, pride and achievements,

safety, peace and happiness. The wholeschool celebrated the flag day together andraised the flag as high as the Nation’sambition.

KERALA PIRAVIKerala Piravi marks the birth of thestate of Kerala in India as it wascreated on November 1, 1956. Kerala,the southernmost state of India, wasformed long after Indian Independenceon 15 August 1947. Prior to that dateit was three Independent provincesnamed Malabar, Cochin andTravancore.

Kerala originally got its name after thefirst ruler, Keralian Thampuran This day was celebrated at schoolthrough programmes hosted by thestudents under the guidance of theMalayalam Dept. Poothapattu inspired by EdasseriGovindan Nair , was performed by thestudents . Dances related to Kerala asalso presented by the students

srelated to Kerala was also presented bythe Senior and junior students with great interest. Poems of some of the great Malayalam poets were also recited by the children. A speech related to Kerala Piravi was also deliveredby Anirudh Biju

Children's Day is celebrated acrossIndia to increase awareness of therights, care and education of chil-dren. It is celebrated on 14 No-vember every year on the birth anni-versary of the first Prime Ministerof India, Jawaharlal Nehru alsocalled 'Chacha Nehru'.

Nehru is often cited as saying thatchildren should always be carefullyand lovingly nurtured as they are thefuture of the nation and thecitizens of tomorrow as they are thefuture of the nation and the citizens oftomorrow. Fancy Dress Competition wasconducted for the children, givingthem a chance to present a varietyof characters related to the freedomstruggle of India

SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR

The students of Gr. 8 and 9 alongwith a few teachers visited the SharjahBook Fair 2017 which was a ten-day in-ternational book fair heldin Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Itwas the world’s third largest book fair-featuring famous authors and 1.5 mil-lion books Almost all the stalls were visitedby us and our children were seen eagerlyflipping through their favourite and newbook titles. Many of them bought booksfor themselves. The teachers were busyselecting books for the School library. Itwas really a wonderful experience for us.

Samarpana- An evening for parents.It was organized for the parents ofour school to showcase their innertalents.

Many of our parents had p artici-pated in the show . There was a Quiz competitionbetween the parents and students , in

which the students won the competi-tion . Parents had presented classical,semi-classical and cinematic dances, solosongs , skit etc.

Archeological field tripField trips provide students with valua-ble experiences, lasting memories, andstrong academic benefits .

The Staff and the students of Grade 6and Grade 7 of Al Saad Indian School ,Al Ain , visited Hili ArchaeologicalSite. The tour was very informative.It introduced the participants to the site,the preservation methods used there andits significance .The wonderful team of the archaeologistsexplained that these remains are of asingle building which may have beena Central part of a larger settlement Only the foundation of the buildingremains and the other parts may havebeen eroded away by time.

So far, artefacts have been recovered, aswell as plant and animal remains. Thesewill be subject to tests including carbon-14 dating. The plant remains are also be-ing analyzed .The team of the archaeolo-gists is very experienced in the regionwith the latest techniques and the stu-dents found the whole experience very in-teresting and knowledgeable. They took akeen interest in the entire visit and cameup with their doubts and question whichwere wonderfully explained by the teaminvolved.



Session withDr. Ramamurthy (ISRO)

Dr. Ramamurthy shared his experiences withthe ISRO team , the growth of ISRO .He evendiscussed his experience of having worked withthe Former Indian President Dr. A. P. J. AbdulKalam. The children could gain a lot of infor-mation through him. The session was attendedby the grades 4 to 9

Session withDr. T P SasikumarDr. T. P. Sasikumar session wasattended by grades 5 to 9 . It wasreally helpful as he gave manyInnovative ideas on how to improvethe ways of learning and under-standing for the children .



ASIANET THINK AND LEARN

Asianet Think & Learn is anInter GCC Quiz Competition orga-nized by Asianet . The studentsfrom grade 5 to 9 of AL SAADINDIAN SCHOOL participated inthe preliminary round of which52 students were selected for theNational Round .

YOU-Fest

The Hit FM team conducted anorientation show to promote the youthfestival named YOUFEST, an eventorganized by the team at Abu Dhabi.The RJ’s ( Mr. Afras and Ms. Sind-hu ) made the show colourful and in-teresting and encouraging by theirspontaneous interpretations. Manyof our students performed and weregiven gifts by the team as a tokenof appreciation.

Workshop Reporton Safety measures for Differently Abled Students ADEC in connection with Fire &Safety department, Abu Dhabi conducted a workshop on “Safety measures of Special needs students” on 8/11/17 at school . Sini. Nair ( Al-Ain. ,SEN Co), Fousia ( Arabic Teacher), Maimuna ( Islamic Teacher), Anam (Arabic Teacher), Maheswari (French Teacher) took part in the workshop from 10am to 11 am . The session was very informative. The representative officer of fire and safety depart- ment explained the safety measures that should be taken at home and school for children, especially for the differently abled.

Important points from the workshop*Install smoke alarms everywhere, in homeand school*Test smoke alarms every month.*Talk with family members and childrenabout the fire escape plan and practice theplan twice a year.*If a fire occurs at home or school, GETOUT, STAY OUT & CALL FORHELP.*Remind the Fire and Safety departmentno 999.By providing the practical experience, theofficer explained about types of Fire extin-guishers and the usage of fire extinguisher.He called upon differently abled studentson stage and made a demonstration on thesame.

MY IDENTITY PROGRAMME A new programme, aimed at enhancing National identity of Emirati students, imple- mented in all privateschools. The rest of the private schoolsin Abu Dhabi are expected to have theprogramme, named Haweyati (MyIdentity), applied during this aca-demic year.The programme, which is organised byAdec's Private Schools and QualityAssurance Sector (PSQA), will also

encourage expatriate students tolearn and respect the culture of theUAE. ADEC is keen to strengthennational identity in private schools.Therefore, it had developed a situationalanalysis study in order to analyze thecurrent situation of history is myidentity. It also focuses on four main de-liverables, which are: curriculum frame-work, administrator manual,'Haweyati' was designed after conduct-ing an in-depth study. The programmewill aim at instilling a deep sense of na-tional identity among Emirati studentsacross public and private schools, whileincreasing appreciation and respect

towards the nation among expatriatestudents. The content within the pro-gramme provides school administratorsand teachers with a curriculum frame-work to reinforce a deep sense of identi-ty, achieve sustainability over timewithin schools, enhance transformation,and foster tangible change amongstudents over time.

My Identity scheme explained> Aims to enhance national identity ofEmirati students and encourage expatri-ate students to learn and respect the cul-ture of the UAE.> Five day intensive training workshopand online training courses will beprovided for all schools.> The programme will provide schoolswith a curriculum framework thatpromotes the principles of UAE's Na-tional Identity.> The schools are selected consideringthe numbers and percentages ofEmirati students in each school,geographic distribution and the varie-ty of school curricula.

Science project The senior level students from AlSaad Indian school of the (Age14 —17) had been selected for the25TH UAE level Screening of NationalChildren Science Congress ( NCSC )2017. 5 students from Grade 9 ( Jaswanth,Varghese Binu , Abhinav Sashidharan ,Jobin Jose and Allen Paul) along withMs. Neeraja had a great experienceparticipating in the NCSC UAE LevelScreening , held at Manipal University ,Academic City ,Dubai on 25th November,Saturday9: 00 am to 1:00 Pm.



UAE NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

UAE National Day wascelebrated with great enthusiasm byall the members of the AL SAADINDIAN SCHOOL. The teachers and studentswere dressed in the Local Attire( Kandoora and Abhaya ) .Childrendecorated the seven pavilloinsrepresenting the seven differentEmirates. Arabic dance, the famousartefacts and delicacies of each of theemirate are also visualized by thechildren. Competitions of differentvarieties like :i) Recitation of English poemswritten by Emirati Poets

For the grades 1 to 4ii) Quiz Competition for grades 5to 10iii) UAE Traditional Attire com-petition for grades 1&2

ANNUALSPORTS MEET

The 4th ANNUAL SPORTS MEET ofAl Saad Indian School was conduct-ed on the 8th and 9th of November2017. Sports meet was inauguratedand declared open by Mr. AN-DREWS PAREKADAN (Former In-dian Army and Kerala State SportsCouncil Football Coach), Sports daymessage was delivered by the Ms.Leena Menon (Principal). The events started with TheMarch Past lead by the sports captainof the school . It was followed by aYoga display by Grade 3 and 4 stu-dents. An Aerobic display by the stu-dents of Grade 7 and 8 followed the

Yoga Display . Oath taking wasdone by the sports captain followedby the Olympic torch run by the pre-vious years individual champions. Par-ents and teachers events addedflavor to the events.

LIBRARY ACTIVITIES Library is a center of learning . The old sayingLibrary is a place of silence is no more apt. It’s acenter of activity, a place for discussion and ex-change of knowledge. The activity for the GR 9 students was to pre-pare a PPT and Book Trailer. The class was dividedinto three groups, headed by ALLEN PAUL,PARTHIV VARMA AND JASWANTHKUMAR.The first presentation was by the team led byALLEN PAUL. .One of the best seller book, THE CHAMBERS OFSECRET by J K ROWLING. It was an excellentpresentation, well planned and presented wonder-fully. It was followed by the presentation led byPARTHIV & TEAM on the book “THE MAZERUNNER” BY JAMES DASHNER..

The next team had to postpone the presentation tothe next class. The book they selected for the presenta-tion was ANGELS AND DEMONS BY DAN

The activity for the Gr. 1students was ROLE PLAY.The students had good funacting out the stories theyread in the Library.The students of GR.1 A chose the storyJINKY’S JOKE by Enid Blyton.A story of the naughty Pixie, troublingothers by his naughty acts, who finallylearns a lesson .The wolf and the sevenkids’ was the story se-lected by the studentsof GR 1B. The massagepassed on to the stu-dents through thisstory is BEWARE OF STRANGERS.

The story chosen by the GR1 C students was A SPELL FOR A PUPPY. It’s a story of a littlegirl sharing her things with others.Students enjoyed the ROLE PLAY ,and at the same time they also got somemoral values and massage for a happy and safe living.

AL AIN MUSIC FESTIVALThe senior choir team of our School wasinvited to present a group song and asolo song in the prestigious YoungHands and Voices concert of the Al AinMusic festival. The concert was on 24thNovember at Al Ain internationalschool Auditorium and the team washighly appreciated for their perfor-mance and got the invitation to per-form in the next season too. We werethe largest team and the only one Indi-an School to perform in the fest.

COMMEMORATION DAYCommemoration Day or Martyrs' Day(Arabic: ‫يوم الشهيد‬yawm ash-shahiid) ismarked annually on November 30 in theUnited Arab Emirates, recognising thesacrifices and dedication of Emiratimartyrs who have given their life in theUAE and abroad in the field of civil,military and humanitarian service
