UiTM Global News / INTERNATIONALIZATION@HOME As a local student, Azfar Bin Abdullah this experience has developed / Faculty of Mechanical Engineering a wholesome I knew of UGLAM in my second semester and what attracted perspective when me to it most was its aim to aid international students of mingling with UiTM. I joined UGLAM in order to establish a wider network of foreign students connections. In addition to that, I wanted to brush up on my soft skills, language abilities as well as my self-confidence. and learning their cultures. UGLAM also provides opportunities for UiTM students by bringing international cultures to us. This is known as internationalisation at home and benefits a lot of us who have yet to have the opportunity to explore the world. UGLAM strives to diminish the main obstacle in connecting with others, which is language barrier. Nur Halimahtun Izzati Binti Samsudin Being a UGLAM made me realise / Faculty of Communication and Media Studies more that we are not mere locals who I interviewed for UGLAM in my first semester with the intention of show directions building networks, enhancing my communication skills as well as when asked; rather to learn about different cultures just by staying local. I am in my fourth semester and I must say it has been a fruitful experience. we really are UGLAM, as an organisation consisting of passionate volunteers, ambassadors who has served its purpose as the platform for self-development, reflect our people’s networking besides internationalisation at home. culture, behaviours As a UGLAM, I have made new friends from various countries, and stance that has taught me more things than I can learn from a book or a movie. Their first-hand experience and knowledge as a UiTM Global News Vol. 2/August 2019 | 51 representative from their home country shares a personal yet raw insight, which are both interesting and informative. Although my position as a UiTM Global Ambassador would soon expire, the input I have gained throughout the journey will definitely still be beneficial and relevant in the future.
