This set of images was a concept to meet the demand for Adams’ prints from museums andcollectors. In the early 1980s, Adams hand selected, printed, and signed his favorite photographs formembers of his family, including the 30 on view in Ansel Adams: The Masterworks. The exhibition will open on Saturday, April 8, 2017. As part of the opening events, guests are invited toattend the Booth Photography Guild monthly meeting at 10:00 am in Bergman Theatre to hear fromAtlanta based artist and avid photographic enthusiast Jeff Milsteen. Following the presentation, an officialribbon cutting will be held in the Picturing America Gallery with BPG President Lynn Henderson andBooth Museum Photography Curator Mary Margaret Cornwell. At 2:00 pm in Bergman Theatre, photographer John Mariana will lead a 15 minute presentation on Ansel Adams and selected works fromthe exhibition. At 2:30 pm Mariana will lead a gallery walk through Ansel Adams: The Masterworks, providing insight of the techniques used by Adams. When asked about the visitor experience of this exhibition, Cornwell stated, “This exhibition will allowpatrons to experience a collection of Adams’ works that were chosen and printed by Adams’ himself, owned by a member of his family, and exhibited for the first time as an entire collection. I hope they areable to take away from these images the beauty and wonder that is the American West, while alsounderstanding that photography is a fine art genre, comparable to painting, sculpture and music.”Photography is as diverse as America and the artists who seek to master it. Some artists usephotography to capture exact replicas of what they see, while others strive to create artistic masterpieces. As the Booth Museum continues to grow its permanent photography collections, Picturing AmericaGallery will serve as a temporary exhibition space and will showcase works captured by America’sgreatest photographers.
