DECA DECA-Distributive Education Clubs of America. These students take time to learn skills for careers of the future. Marketing, Free Enterprise, Fashion Merchandising, and School Store are among the qualifying classes for competition on State and National levels. This year, many exciting things have taken place. The fall social was held at Mr. Billiards where everyone who attended enjoyed a game of pool and yummy food. A Bowl-a-thon was held in November at the 49th Street Galleria which successfully raised $1640 for the MDA. There was also a first annual fashion show which took place in the spring. DECA is a rewarding experience for all who are members. Valuable information is learned in each event and all experiences can be directly applied to getting the best jobs in the world of business. Students choose which lunch to work and manage the business just like it was a store out in the harsh world of reality, (that is saying that high school is merely a bowl full of cherries!) Such things as pricing, selling, customer relations, and inventory are learned and practiced in this setting. Stage Crew The auditorium lights brighten, the curtain lifts, the sound loudens, and the men backstage and in the booth scamper around to make the program its best! For years now, stage crew, advised by Steve Shumway, has spent many long hours during and after school for the benefit of our school, in dance concerts, musicals, assemblies, sports activities, and much more. The staff has had to maintain a G.P.A of 3.0 and also have been willing to watch the Andy Griffith show (Ha!Ha!). Our Stage Crew team seldom receives the recognition that they deserve. So we all must remember how important they are to the school and to the school programs. After all, the show must go on, and without Stage Crew, it can't!!! David Marion PRIDE Our pride team consisted of nine members this year. In all, there were 82 members in the state. Some of the activities they did this year included going to talk to children and performing for them in assemblies at elementary schools around the area. Their goal was to prevent young children from starting the use of drugs, alcohol, smoking, and other activities that could get them in trouble. Our PRIDE team did a great job and was ranked the number one team in the nation. Some of the specifications for being a member were being able to sing, dance, act, and relate well to others - especially children. Tryouts were also held to pick the members. A PRIDE member, Elizabeth Montague, said that if you want to be a member you should \"practice your dancing and singing. Don't be afraid to be involved and let your personality shine through.\" Helping younger children in their decision to not take drugs was a fun and rewarding experience. International Club tl oDavid Marion The International Club's purpose is to 115 help the foreign exchange students feel welcome at Hillcrest. Also to provide a healthy multicultural experience for each member. They celebrate all of the internationally known holidays such as Gnco de Mayo, Valentines Day (is that an international holiday? I hope so, they celebrated it!). The main goal of the international club was to include the foreign exchange students in all of the activities. We always have many foreign exchange students at our school, helping us to bridge the gap between other countries and ours. It is interesting to talk to people from other countries and compare customs, traditions and conditions. How lucky we are!
