2017-18 Annual Report  01From CEO's desk“When the going gets tough, the tough gets going” - anonymous2017-18 fiscal year did demand renewed vigor to get back to the drawing board toideate, reorganize and rebuild as an organization.  The 5,000 plus children thatHelping Hand Welfare Society supported to empower them through a formalizedEducation, and the gamut of Child focused projects we championed, all did aim atequipping children from the disadvantaged family and community with anopportunity to attain a holistic development.We are committed to the child focused outcome areas – Survival, Protection,Development and Participation for the children at school and in the community.As we trudge on, we remain true to our goal to bring Children from “Darkness toLight”

As time passed,COMPLETED GRADE 10 her mother got worst and succumbed to her illness. While all seemed to go downhill,An important milestone in the journey Priya's future didn’t end that day. Sheof education. Many children can now received sponsorship to study and wasfollow their dream or vocation with enrolled in the Upper Kindergarten class inqualification. Orissa. She went on for further studies in Khunti, Jharkand. Today, Priya has completed 12th grade.

Com. graduatessupporting over 270 students for along with other 79 young peopleNursing, 87 for B. Com. and other celebrated their graduation at357 students for various degrees different places. They are nowincluding LLB and Engineering. equipped to chase their dreams. Children with Speech & Hearing Impairment with their loved ones celebrating their Graduation from Lowry Memorial College, Bangalore. These six young pupils who got to embark on the journey of their life, to see the light of education, to have hope beyond the nimble doors of their homes were thankful to their sponsors. This was a dream come true,especially for the girls who would otherwise be lost somewhere in the village without a voice.

2017-18 Annual Report  05 Projects Executing projects of over ₹ 1.5 crore for Child Focused School Development, Children's Home Improvement, Health and Hygiene, and Sanitation across institutions.    2,375 LIVES IMPROVED From improved sanitation to installing a smart class, HHWS has supported 2 Children's Homes, 2 Special Schools, and 2 Boarding Schools in delivering better education and care for more than 2,000 children across India.  450 EMPOWERED WITH LIFE SKILLSLife Skill Training at Children's Home The Child Welfare Department at HHWS trained 450 Orphan and Vulnerable Children across 4 Children's Homes in Life Skills - Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Decision Making, and Protective Behaviour.

2017-18 Annual Report  07Empowering                                                                        Communities through the Child FocusedSchool Development (CFSD) project that commenced in July 2017 at SDA School, G.Madhavaram, where the major challenges faced by the community are such as poverty,illiteracy, caste based discrimination, violence against women, caste based discriminationand gender discrimination. This project aims to support the community and create anenvironment where children can thrive. It is focused on empowering the school bydeveloping infrastructure and capacity building that ensures quality education is deliveredfor the holistic development of children. CFSD addresses the four Child Focused Outcomeareas - Survival, Protection, Development and Participation - for the children at school andin the community.· Survival: Children have improved access to health services and increased knowledge ofhealth and lifestyle choices.· Protection: Children are aware of their rights and protected from violence andexploitation· Development: Children can access quality education and out-of-school activities thatsupport holistic development· Participation: Children are empowered and involved in decision-making and planning

2017-18 Annual Report  08 B E F O R E A F T E R Child Focused School Development, INR 40,00,000 for 2017-18,  Beneficiaries: 139 children and families Malladhi Subbarao, age 35, is a mason by profession who hailsfrom a village called Velladam in Andhra Pradesh, India. Malladhi'sparents died when he was young, after which his grandparents took care of him. He married a woman from Gudem Madhavaram and settled here. He has two children, one boy and a girl. His daughter studies in LKG and son is 2 years old. Malladhi belongs to the schedule caste due to which he doesn't get much work in the village. He used to find it difficult to pay the school fees towards his child’s education. He became part of CFSD project duringrenovation. He says- “The work has helped me meet my needs and the needs of my children”.

2017-18 Annual Report  11 Special Schools Asian Aid School for Blind Won cricket tournament for state level sports for disabled Won 19 first Prizes, 17 second Prizes and 9 Third Prizes under various categories for running, chess, cricket, sort put etc. during District Level Disable Sports on 26-11-2017 at Vizianagram. Students in VI-IX won prizes in Town-wide Schools Speech Debate Program.SDA School for Speechand Hearing Impaired Inaugurated pathfinder club and formed Silent Warriors group. Won Prizes in tracks and field events during District Level World's Disabled Day Sports meet.  Held science exhibition to display creative models by the children and staff. All India Institute for Speech and Hearing had sent 8 interns for training and internship.  Participated in Daan Utsav by cleaning the market and sharing the food with strangers.

2017-18 Annual Report  12 Children's Homes Elim Adventist Home 4 residents completed graduation from Flaiz Memorial College Narsapur Children participated in Daan Utsav in October to experience the joy of giving for others.Sunshine Children'sHome First batch of engineers Angela Joseph and Paulraj S completed their studies at Rover Engineering College. Bakery and organic farming is blooming this year. The children enjoyed the hikes, games, worship, and delicious food at the trip to Yalagir. Had three wedding bells this year.

2017-18 Annual Report  13 Children's Homes Sunrise Children's Home Annual sports meet at Sunrise Home was celebrated by children with enthusiasm Counselling for children and staff conducted by a team of experts from Bobbili, VizianagaramMrs. Lalitha Varma, Home Director,Sunrise Children's Homes washonoured with “SPOORTHY”(inspiration) award as the Governmentof Andhra Pradesh selected her as bestwomen social worker. She was also honoured with the ‘BESTMOTHER” (orphan children) award bythe Department of WomenDevelopment and Child Welfare Priya* was just 27 when she took a stand to get out of an abusive marriage, an orphan herself, she had no social support and did not know how she would take care of her two little children. She found that she could leave her children at Sunshine Home but the Home Director Mrs. Beulah felt that Priya could be encouraged to become independent and children will not have to live away from their mother. For next two years, Priya got herself trained and joined work at an IT firm. Today, she feels happy that Sunshine Home supported her to take care of her children and be reunited with her.

2017-18 Annual Report  14 Breaking the Boxes Year 2017-18 was a very special year for HHWS as we launched our Local Sponsorship Program. Fundraising concert with one of the biggest choir groups in Bangalore Appeals made at different institutions. by volunteers, alumni and board members  60 INRNew Local 7 Lakhs Raised  Donors Locally Singing Groups volunteering their voices to raise funds for the children“I had always dreamt of becoming a sponsor one day, it was my childhoodambition. I always believed that I should pass on the help that I got and this is thetime for me to do it, I am so happy I finally got a chance to make my dream cometrue.” -Geeth is a sponsored graduate working as a receptionist at Lowry Memorial College while pursuing a correspondent course in Masters of Business Administration
