Message from the Director: Thank you all for joining the Pinecrest Orchestras for our 2021 Winter Concert. We are excited to share our holiday program with you all as well as to recognize many of our students' major achievements this semester. Students went above and beyond with participation in music outside of orchestra class. We had 34 students in All County, 12 students in Solo and Ensemble, and various student made groups to perform beyond school grounds in our community. After being deprived of many performance opportunities last year, this semester has proven that students are hungry to take their musicianship beyond the classroom and perform at whatever capacity they can. I am grateful for these driven students and those that support them. Thank you to all parents, MCS staff, and community members for your continued support this year as it does not go unnoticed. I hope you all have a happy holiday and fantastic new year! Sincerely, Madeline Birk

Wreaths Across America WAA, the organization that evolved out of one family’s efforts to honor veterans. The Worcester family owns a memorial wreath business and has been making wreath donations to Arlington National Cemetery for many years. A photograph featuring some of those wreaths went viral circa 2005. One of the unintended results of that viral image that featured Worcester donated wreaths covered in snow was that donations began coming in to support the donations of the wreaths. According to the WAA official site, at first those donations were sent back to the givers “because there was no mechanism in place for the family to accept the donations at that time.” Yet the floodgates of donations had been opened and there were thousands of requests to help out. In 2008, there were wreath laying events in every state. More than 300 locations including overseas cemeteries participated. That same year on December 13, Congress designated Wreaths Across America Day. Fast forward to 2014 when more than 700,000 wreaths were presented at approximately a thousand sites which included Ground Zero in New York City. 2012 marked the year when the one millionth wreath was laid at Arlington National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America would not be successful without the help of volunteers, active organizations and the generosity of the trucking industry, which offer invaluable support to WAA's mission to remember the men and women who served our country, honor our military and their families, and teach our children about our freedom and those who protect it. There are many ways you can help visit the website by scanning the QR code below to learn more and get involved! You can sponsor a wreath for $15 throughout the entire year. Each sponsorship goes toward a fresh balsam veteran’s wreath that will be placed on the headstone of an American hero as we endeavor to honor all veterans laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park. With Wreath Day right around the corner! Our hearts are full as we plan to gather together as a nation to REMEMBER, HONOR, and TEACH through the placing of veteran wreaths on December 18th.Pinelawn Memorial Park Ceremony 12:00pm Thank you to all who sponsored wreaths. Pinecrest Orchestra sponsored a total of 50 wreaths this year. We hope to see this number grow in the years ahead.
