Canyons School D1str1ct made history this year by moving 9th grade to high school for the first time, 1ncreas1ng Jordan High's enrollment to over 2,200. Swarms of freshmen wandered a1mlessly through halls looking for classes, but upperclassmen were quick to take these new students under their wing, which was definitely appreciated. At the end of the day, which began with the traditional SBO beet topping, students described the experience as ''fun,\" \"interesting,\" and \"exciting,\" among other positive adjectives. Principal Sherwood was also excited to welcome 30 new licensed staff members this year, including 28 teachers and 2 counselors. All students this year are especially excited about their teachers, their classes and getting involved at JHS. Madison Woodmansee, a freshman, said that before school began she \"wasn't looking forward to high school but is now after all of the new experiences,\" wh1ch should make it clear: the Jordan Beetdiggers have a great year ahead! However, their strength, spirit anddetermination was not lost even as they metwith disappointing defeats. One memorable moment included Mrs. Larsen1S English students acting out scenes frof11 the famous Hamlet play. Also, creative writing studen trekked out into the cold to experience childhood once again. They blew bubbles and captured the moment through writing to 11ShOW11 not 11tell11 the reader about the experience. Mr. Olsen1s 9th grade Honors students took to technology w1th a program called Adobe Youth Voices where students were taught hoW to use various applications to write their own original poems and transformed them into short slideshows. Through interactions and unique experiences, English classes took on a new feel this year.
