Swimming Guidelines Region Chairman: Matt Schelble Moratorium: August 7-20, 2017 Starting Date: October 2, 2017 First Meet: November 3, 2017 State Tournament: February 9-10, 2018 @ TBA Academic All-State Accepted Between: December 12 – January 9, 2018 Eligibility List Due: November 18, 2017 1) November 3, 2017 will be the first date a swimming meet may be held. 2) A maximum of fourteen (14) meets will be held. All region meets begin at 3:30 pm. 3) The Region Championships will be held on January 26, 2018 at South Davis Rec Center. 4) The State Championship meet will be held at TBD on February 8 & 9, 2018. 5) Each team in the region shall have a current version of Hy-Tek meet manager and team manager software. Home team will be in the odd lanes, the visiting team in the even lanes. 6) Each school’s entries for the Region Championship will be limited to all official entries in each individual event and each relay. All times must be the best time from meets during the current season. a) All swimmers must meet eligibility requirements as per National Federation Rules. b) The top four (4) swimmers from each pool may score towards the Region Championship. c) Scoring format will be sixteen (16) places (as per National Federation rules for a ten (10) lane pool). d) Entries are due Tuesday, January 23rd by 7:00 PM. TENNIS (Boys) GUIDELINES & SCHEDULE Region Chairman: Tom Sherwood Two Week Prior Restrictions: Feb 11th – 24th Starting Date: Feb 25, 2019 First Game: March 4, 2019 State Tournament: May 16 & 18 Academic All-State Accepted Between: Mar 12 – April 9 Eligibility List Due: March 16 1. Schools will have varsity and JV level teams. 2. Teams will consist of 7 players for varsity and 7 players for JV: 3 singles players and 2 doubles teams on each team. 3. A maximum of 14 matches may be played plus Region and State tournaments. 4. League matches are scheduled to begin by 3:30pm. 5. Matches are to be played on the date scheduled (subject to weather and court conditions). The host coach will be responsible to contact the visiting coach regarding the number of players for that day, court locations, and/or cancellation and rescheduling plans by 12:00pm. 6. Matches and court conduct are governed by USTA rules. 7. Varsity matches will consist of 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring, with a 12-point tie break at 6-6. JV players will play an 8 game pro-set with no add scoring. A 12- point tie breaker will be used at 8-8. 8. Home team furnishes the balls (high altitude). 9. Players are limited to a 10-minute warm-up period with practice serves being taken during this time. Coaches should enforce the practice time limit. 10. Legitimate lineups according to skill ability: Skill ability shall be defined as the number 1 singles player shall be better than the number 2 singles player who shall be better than the number 3 singles player. The number 1 doubles team shall be better than the number 2 doubles team. Stacking is NOT permissible and could result in UHSAA sanctions. Juggling, shuffling, or forfeiting positions to gain an advantage is unsportsmanlike and creates an unhealthy educational environment. In the event of an injury, absence, ineligibility during any course of the season the next best player would move up to fill the spot vacated by the injured player. 11. A coach may move players from singles to doubles or from doubles to singles. However, the players must be ranked according to ability in either position. 12. To qualify for the Region and State Tournaments, players will follow the state tennis rules. The rule states that players must play 5 matches in either a varsity or JV position to qualify. Players do not need to play all 5 matches in a specific spot. 13. The Team Championship will be determined as follows: a. 1 point for each Region Dual Meet match, with a total of 5 points possible per match. b. By the finish of each player in the Region Tournament 1st place = 4 points 2nd place = 3 points 3rd place = 2 points 4th place = 1 point 14. The Region will furnish the tennis balls for the Region Meet. 15. The format for the Region Tournament will be determined by the coaches upon notification as to how many players from Region III will be entered in the State Meet. A double elimination draw is currently being used. 53

16. A player will not be required to play an opponent more than once in the Region Meet. 17. Changeovers have a time limit of 90 seconds and the time limit is 2 minutes between the 1st and 2nd set and up to 10 minutes between the 2nd and 3rd set. UHSAA Coaching Guidelines: Coaching is only allowed by members of the coaching staff during allowed rest period, between sets and during changeovers. At Dual matches, Region, and State, only 2 coaches are allowed to coach at any given time and only one coach is allowed on any given court. Compliance with USTA time limitations regarding rest periods and changeovers are still in effect and USTA penalties for time violations on rest periods and changeovers will be enforced. Coaching is not permitted during the warm-up period, during a tiebreaker or following the 1st game of a set. 18. Players should go to the restroom before match play begins. In the event of an emergency situation, the player may leave the court to go to the restroom between games. Coaches should be notified if a player needs to leave the court. Otherwise players should not leave the court for any other reason. 19. Rest periods between matches at the Region Tournament will consist of 60 minutes for singles players and 30 minutes for doubles teams. 20. Only 2 coaches may participate in any region event as “official coaches”, and must be certified as coaches through the appropriate channels. Coaches will be identified by all competing teams prior to the beginning of the match or tournament. The coaches will remain the same throughout the entirety of the contest. Track And Field Guidelines Region Chairman: Christian Cowart Starting Date: ? First Contest allowed: State Meet: Academic All-State Accepted Between: Eligibility List Due: 1. Track meets for boys and girls are to be conducted concurrently. 2. Track meets will start at 3:30 pm. 3. The following awards should be given. a. 1 Team Region trophy (boys and girls) b. Region Championship Meet: medals for the first six (6) places in individual events, and medals to the first two (2) places in relay events (boys and girls). Top four (4) places (relays and individual meets) at Region Championship qualify for the State meet. Students may also qualify for the State meet at state qualifying invitational meets. 4. The responsibility of deciding if a meet should be cancelled rests with the host school. Although input for the other participation schools should be obtained whenever possible. The final decision rests with the host school. The host school will phone the other participating schools and cancel the meet by 1 pm. 5. Region meets: a. Home school is appointed Meet Director in charge. b. Home school is responsible to send or post results to all visiting teams. 6. Meets (Dual/Tri) a. Participants must be designated before running events. b. The boys and girls heats may be combined as designated by the host school. c. All schools are responsible for bringing the own name tags. d. All field events will be limited to four (4) attempts- no finals. e. Visiting schools will be responsible for staffing and running two (2) field events during the meet. 7. Region Championship Meet: Field Events 2 pm, Track Events 3 pm. a. Each school will be allowed six (6) athletes per event and one (1) relay team per event. b. There will be an all-region designation given to the region champions of each event. The host school will notify the press. c. All recorded times and distances entered must come from a region meet or state qualifying track meet. All times for running events below 800 meters must be FAT times or it is considered as “no time”. d. The games committee (which will consist of a coach from each school) and/or referee will make all decisions on any protest that may occur. e. Seed times and distances will be posted on runnercard.com by Monday May 7th at 10 pm. f. The top 8 times for track events and top 9 for field events will advance to finals regardless of placing in heats. No alternates will be added or lanes field for the finals. g. The Region Championship hot must hire a field judge and race starter from the UHSAA who is US Track & Field certified. The region will pay the starter $100/day and $75 for a shells as well as $50/day for the field judge. The host school will provide a meal for four (4) coaches each day to be covered by the region. Schools will be charged $70 to cover these region expenses. h. Each school will be responsible for staffing two (2) adults to run one (1) field event at the Region Championship. 59

8. Budgets: a. Region Championship Meet cost to be approved by the Region VII Board of Managers 9. Academic All-Region a. Each school will provide their own certificates for their students to be recognized at the Region Championship meet. A 3.75 GPA or higher will be accepted. 10. Please refer to “General Policies” in the Region VII Handbook for all other Region VII rules and the UHSAA Handbook for all UHSAA rules. Volleyball Guidelines Region Chairman: Quinn Linde Two Week Prior Restrictions: July 23-Aug. 5th Starting Date: August 6, 2018 First Game: August 14, 2018 State Tournament: November 1 - 3, 2018 @ UVU Academic All-State Accepted Between: August 21 -October 2, 2018 Eligibility List Due: August 27, 2018 1) Each school will submit complete game schedules to all Region VII schools. a. If there is a scheduling conflict, the individual schools need to make other arrangements and then notify the region chair of that change. 2) Time of Region Games: a. Sophomore: 3:30 games play 3 out of 5 b. J.V.: 4:45 – Warm up will begin immediately following sophomore. c. Varsity: 6:00 – Warm up will begin at 5:50 or immediately after J.V. if past 5:50. d. Senior Night Procedures: If your school honors the seniors and parents at the final home varsity game of the season, HONOR SENIORS AND PARENTS BEFORE WARM UPS BEGIN. After seniors are honored, visiting team will take their net time, followed by the home team. After warm ups, announce teams and let the game begin. 3) Scoring: a. Rally scoring format for sub-varsity matches is as follows: games 1 and 2 score to 25 (cap at 27); games 3 -5 (if necessary) score to 15 (cap at 17). The let serve is still utilized. Games 1 and 2 have a possibility of two timeouts per team and games 3-5, if necessary, have a possibility of one timeout per team. b. Rally scoring for varsity matches is as follows: games 1-4 (if necessary) score to 25 with no cap on game 5 (if necessary) scores to 15 with no cap. The let serve is still utilized. Games 1-5 (if necessary) have a possibility of two (2) timeouts per team. 4) Standardized warm-up for all varsity and sub-varsity levels is ten (10) minutes. Teams may either use a 5- 5 or a 4-4-2 format to be determined by coaches before game begins. 5) By UHSAA guidelines maximum number of matches is 16. That includes region matches (14), preseason matches and tournaments. 6) The All-Region Team will be selected by the coaches at the end of the season. a. First place team’s coach will be in charge of compiling and reporting the nominations from each team: MVP, 1st Team, 2nd Team, and Honorable Mention. Coaches will be responsible to fill in their own players on a google doc by MONDAY, OCTOBER 29th. Academic All-Region team: any senior with a 3.75 GPA or higher. 7) The volleyball region chair will print certificates and mail to schools after coaches submit their team’s all- region names. 61

8) A three ball rotation is used in each match. No spectators seated on the first row. Home team provides 2 people for the three ball rotation. 9) Home team selects game balls (colored or white) for region games. 10) The HOST SCHOOL is responsible for providing BOTH LINE JUDGES along with the timer, scorer and libero tracker for their home matches. 11) Court needs to be set up one hour prior to the start time of first game. 12) The winning team coach is responsible to call the scores to the local papers. a. Deseret News (801‐237‐2121) Daily Herald (801‐344‐2555) and Max Preps 13) If there are ties of standing, a tie breaker will be determined by: a. Head to head for all Region matches. Head to Head= A. Matches B. Sets C. Points b. If head to head does not break tie, a coin flip will determine final region placement. c. In the event that a team may be eliminated from state playoffs, a tie will result in a full match being played on the first available date at a neutral site. (Refer to general guidelines). 14) If there is an issue or conflict that might arise during the season, there is a proper chain of command that needs to be taken. First, concerns should be given to the volleyball region chair. He or she will gather all necessary information and then send it to the high school administration(s) of the school(s) involved. The assistant principal over sports or athletic director are responsible to investigate any of the issues that need to be addressed. When the school is finished with their investigation, they will report back to the volleyball region chair and he or she will pass along information back to the coach. 15) Please refer to “General Policies” in the Region VII Handbook for all other Region VII rules, and the UHSAA Handbook for all UHSAA rules. Wrestling Guidelines Summer Moratorium Jul 1 - Jul 7 Moratoriums July 31- Aug 27; November 22-25; Dec 22-26, Jan 1 Tryouts – Monday, November 5th, 2018 First Contest – Tuesday, November 20th , 2018 Divisional – Feb 1- Feb 2 @ TBA State Tournament - Feb 13-14 @ UVU 1. Starting time for Region VII matches will be as follows: a. Weigh-ins: 4:00 P.M. b. JV Matches: 5:00 P.M. c. Varsity Matches: 7:00 P.M. The gym must be cleared of all other activities by 3:30 P.M. so it can be set up for dual matches. A change in starting time will require agreement between the principals of the two schools involved. Changes in dates of activities require the approval of the Region VII Board of Managers. Host schools are responsible to notify the arbiter of any time or date changes. 2. The NFHS rulebook will be followed for all rules, including weight classes, weight control, weigh-ins, tournament scoring, and every other situation unless otherwise directed by the UHSAA. a. There is to be no weight allowance given, unless there are dual matches or tournaments on consecutive days. A coach must contact the opposing coach 24 hours in advance, if this situation occurs. A one-pound allowance per consecutive days of competition is the maximum authorized. No more than two pounds weight allowance will be allowed for consecutive days of competition. b. Each wrestler is required to have at least one official weigh-in before being entered in the region tournament. No weigh-ins will be counted as official until after the wrestler has successfully completed the UHSAA Body Fat Composition Test to determine a minimum weight. Further rules regarding the UHSAA Weight Control Program are found at www.uhsaa.org in the wrestling section. TEST DAYS ARE NOVEMBER 17-18, 2017. c. Platform scales must be certified before the first home meet each year. d. The officials for all region and practice matches will be assigned by the state arbiter for varsity, junior varsity, and sophomore meets. All officials must be certified. 3. Coaches will exchange line-ups by fax/e-mail before 10:00 P.M. on the night before the match; line-up should include varsity, JV, and extras. 4. A maximum of 24 encounters per wrestler preceding the State Dual/Divisional Tournaments. All tournaments count as three credits. Individuals may compete in no more than six tournaments per season. Three of the six tournaments may be dual tournaments. 5. *Division Tournament will be governed by UHSAA. 64
