Varsity Uses .Multiple Defense Through the positive ef· fects of a fast·moving, pass· ing offense and the use of variety in multiple defense, Jordan's varsity basketball team is still clinging to the top of the backboard. Hav· ing to face increasingly tough region and league competitions, the team proved to be quite excep· tiona) in all aspects of court play. Although we had several close games, Coach Hal Hale felt our greatest competitors in league action were West and South. In order to pre· pare for each game, Coach Hale would first scout the other teams during pre·sea· son play and pick up on the types of strategies most pre· velant in play action. Then after the team conducted in· dividual warm·ups, they would work together on of· fensive and defensive moves to counter·attack opposing strategy. Even though they seemed to be hindered by perpetual physical injuries of one sort or another , each of the play· ers acquired a high standard of improving their own abili· ties, and because of their own personal dedic ation they were also able to work well as a team. Through the combi· nation of sophomores, juniors, and three hours of daily prac· tice, they have been rewarded with a great season. Nothing Tops Varsity Wrestling Kyle Hansen wins at Cottonwood. Have you seen a group of guys going over to the pit every night after school? If you have, then you have encountered the Jordan High Wrestling Team! They have had long and hard wrestling practices every night. except for match nights, since the first of November. There are twelve weight divi· sions starting from 98 lbs. to over 185 lbs. To be a wrestler, you have to be in top·notch physical condition. It is not very fun to have to skip mea ls or go without snacks to be able to stay at your weight. Our team did well against Tooele and West High. They were the toughest competition in our region. Our wrestling team did GREAT this year and they went to region. The wres· tiers that placed 1st. 2nd, and 3rd in region also went to State to represent Jordan High.
