Supt. C. N. Jensen \"The generations of men and women pass. Years after we parents and teachers have disappeared from the earth, the children, in their maturity, enter into the full - ness of life and carry on our service.\"-Charles Beard The manner in which youth will carry on, however, must necessarily rest upon their beliefs and ideals. Two ideologies today are struggling for supremacy through- out the world more fiercely than at any time in the world's hi story. One ideology holds that force is the best method whereby governments can render the greatest service to their people. It also believes that people in a modern world are not capable of self-government. This ideology seems at present to have the upper hand in the conflict throughout Europe and the Far East. The other ideology, to which youth and adults of America firmly adhere, is that through education people can and will govern themselves and be most prosperous and happy. They believe, further, in the dignity and worth of everyone and in the principle that through re- sponsibility and freedom of individual intelligence, gov- ernments can be established and maintained which will render the greatest good to the greatest number. This latter ideology is demonstrated in the way of life pursued in America. As long as youth and adults adhere to these ideals, although the horizon now looks dark, they need have no fear as to their final victory. -S upt. C. N. V,· F: tscher S trfue , ecrefary L. W N· p. • tefsen , r1ncipa/ The attempt to meet adequately the actual needs of students in preparation for life's workinvolves a change in the attitudes of the students and the parents, also a change in the offeringsby courses as a means of accomplishing the training. The faculty will present a report based on the Youth Commission's recommendations reorgan-izing our program to meet students' needs with trained teachers and adequate equipment. The changed motives and attitudes which we hope to make on the part of the students andthe parents will come as the proposed plan gets under way. Attitudes result from participation.New attitudes will result from the different types of work planned, because of the closer harmonybetween the work done and the needs this work is intended to meet. A wide departure from thecollege preparatory courses now used will likely result as new work progresses and the needs are metor as required changes of courses to meet the requirements are set up. The parents' attitudes will be changed, we hope, as they see the students more readily andeffectively participating in real work with greater enthusiasm and with better results of learning. The success of our program depends on the ability and willingness of the administration toprovide adequate equipment and sufficient trained teachers. The goal aimed at is motivation on the part of the students which will lead to learningactivities acco anied by satisfaction in the thing done and preparation thereby for future workas a member of society, together with good citizenship as a concomitant learning.
