Even the top brass have come for a good look! Made primarily of wood, the “Salamander” was designed to be cheap to build andeasy to fly for inexperienced Hitler Youth pilots expected to be pressed into service to try to stave off the Allied airpower onslaught. Problems arose because the fighter was rushed intoproduction. It did not see combat until mid-April, then Germany surrendered May 8, 1945.
