It is with great pride that I present FabriTec Structures, a brand of USA SHADE & Fabric Structures, Inc. and an innovative leader in the Tensile Membrane Structure Industry. Over the years, our many successful projects have served as the best illustration of our capabilities and commitment to represent our industry with imagination and excellence. Our primary focus is providing superior service to our clients and creating differentiation through the creativity of our Design Development Department. Both our dedication to design and our commitment to build provide clients with a sole resource. This unique infrastructure vertically integrates our in-house resources from Design & Engineering to Fabrication, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Construction. In developing the core of our business, our major objective has been to surround ourselves with quality, disciplined people. The Design Development Department (DDD) at FabriTec was created to elevate the level of service to our clients by utilizing sophisticated 3D/CAD rendering and animation software. This comprehensive visualization capability enables clients to better understand our company’s proposed solution to their requirements. The DDD complements our progressive approach to innovation and creativity. Our design team is composed of Industrial Designers and Architects who understand the fundamentals of shape, form and function; their creativity and technical ability enable the client to gain a unique insight into a 3D version of a concept suitable for construction. The animation represented in CAD format typically represents the actual and final product and is the starting point for converting the concept into reality. “Our Design Development Department elevates our level of service to our clients and complements our progressive approach to innovation and creativity.”6

The FabriTec Project Design & Engineering Department begins by establishing the required centerline geometry of the structure and modeling it in 3D using highly specialized software to define a final equilibrium shape that meets the requirements of the client. The equilibrium shape is then analyzed under various loading conditions to determine the steel, cable, and fabric requirements. The results of the computer modeling and analysis are transformed in the graphical design stages of the project into an accurate, extruded 3D model complete with actual steel and cable sizes and connections. The design drawings are then developed from the 3D model and submitted to the client for review and approval. Engineering calculations are also included in the submittal to the client. Upon approval of the design drawings and engineering calculations, the fabric shape is then patterned. “Patterning” is the art of representing three dimensional shapes by connecting a series of flat, two dimensional templates into one fabric assembly. “The results of our computer modeling and analysis are transformed into an accurate, extruded 3D model complete with actual steel and cable sizes and connection details.”8

One of the many advantages of fabric structures is how fewcomponents are required to create a structure. These includethe primary structural support system, the membrane and, mostimportantly, the fittings and hardware used to tension the structure.Membrane plates are the key to a successful tension membranestructure and are custom designed to link the membrane to thestructural support system. Cables create the edge of tensionmembrane structures. Along the perimeter, they are calledcatenaries, along the underside of the membrane they are called theradial or ridge cable, and over the top of the membrane, they arecalled valley or safety cables. Catenary cables are the most visibleand are formed along the perimeter stretching from mast to mast.They are installed inside a pocket in the membrane or supportedalong the edge with cable straps and usually terminate with athreaded rod or forked clevis. Fabric structure hardware consistsmostly of parts made for the yachting, bridge building, rigging, andmountain climbing industries. Shackles, turnbuckles, and togglesare just a few of the hardware choices available to link the membraneand the primary structural support. “Fabric Structures have the advantage of requiring few components with much of the hardware inspired by the bridge building, rigging and mountain climbing industries.” 9

At the core of all our modular and custom tensile membrane structures are the fabrics that we utilize to create some of the most architecturally innovative and aesthetically appealing fabric structures in the world. We use many of the best materials available including vinyl coated polyester (PVC), Teflon® coated fiberglass (PTFE), transparent structural clear foil (ETFE), and HDPE, a high density polyethylene mesh which can block out up to 96% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. The fabrics are selected to meet the specific project requirements as well as our clients’ individual needs and desires. We offer a variety of materials with varying degrees of translucency, light reflectivity, UV and weather protection, and non- combustibility. Certain fabrics offer self-cleaning surfaces and all are easily maintained to preserve their appearance and ensure a long life. Our tension structures are fabricated utilizing the strongest seams applicable to the individual fabric – this includes heat sealing, radio frequency (RF) sealing and sewn seams utilizing Gore-Tex® PTFE thread which provides one of the longest life expectancy’s in the industry. Our fabric patterning, sewing and cutting crews utilize advanced computer controlled cutting technology which provides precision load analysis and tight tolerance. “We utilize many of the best fabric materials available in order to meet the specific project requirements as well as our clients’ individual needs and desires.”10

At FabriTec, we recognize that the structural integrity and quality ofour products are critical to the long term success of our business.We have a combinded 120,000 square feet of steel fabrication spacein Dallas that is certified by the International Accreditation Servicesboard (IAS) as meeting, or exceeding, the highest standards in thesteel fabrication industry. The plant has been custom designedand is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including roboticwelding, computerized roll benders, custom swedgers, massivesand blast booths and powder coat ovens and booths. We arevertically integrated and use sophisticated tools and equipment tocut raw steel and fabricate our plates. Our welders are all certifiedand we employ a full time certified welding inspector to ensure thatwe always meet our internal and external quality standards. All rawmaterials are of the highest quality and we require certified millcertificates from all of our suppliers. The plant is managed by a veryprofessional and experienced team that focuses on quality, safety,and delivery. This team of fabrication professionals consistentlyproduces structures that meet or exceed our customers’ quality anddelivery expectations. “We operate a custom designed, IAS certified steel fabrication plant managed by an experienced team that focuses on quality, safety and delivery.” 11

The Project Management Department at FabriTec was created to handle the ever increasing size and value of our many projects. Project Management utilizes sophisticated organizational software to ensure that all our projects are completed in the most cost- effective, timely, and efficient manner. We strive to meet or exceed expectations with every client and on every project. Once a project has been sold and handed over to the Proposal Manager, Project Management is then responsible for taking control of all aspects of the job. Project Managers create schedules, handle submittals and approvals, maintain comprehensive communication logs, and manage costs and logistics, all in order to see the project through to successful completion. By taking ownership of the job, our Project Managers are able to guide the job through all critical phases to create a project that our customers regard as being among the finest available anywhere in the world. As we continue to design and build more large- scale, imaginative, and innovative projects, Project Management will continue to grow and bring great ideas into reality. “Our Project Managers guide the job through all critical phases and strive to meet or exceed expectations with every client and on every project.”12

With Sustainable Design as one of the most important issues in architecture today, designers are not only focusing on environmentally friendly materials but alsoeducating their clients on the benefits of their design approach, their use of materials, and their method of construction for reaching “Green” status. The essential aimof Sustainable Design is to produce places, products, and services in a way that reduces the use of non-renewable resources, minimizes environmental impact, andrelates people to the natural environment in terms of three main components: Design, Materials, and Construction. Fabric structures by FabriTec can also contributeto Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) credits in categories such as: daylighting, innovative design, and reduced and recyclable material usage. 13

The custom tensile fabric structures that we design and build at Highly Skilled and Certified Technicians FabriTec require experts in specialty construction in order to achieve Compliant with OSHA and the ultimate results. We offer many of the most experienced, Registered with DOT well-trained and dedicated construction professionals available in our industry. We have crews operating from coast to coast that have built thousands of successful projects resulting in lasting partnerships with our customers. We utilize highly skilled and certified rope access workers for our larger scale projects and are compliant with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and registered with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) programs which attest to our high level of safety and professionalism. As a vertically integrated company, we do very little outsourcing and our construction teams have many years of experience in proper foundation and footing construction, steel erection and fabric installation.
