Bass Digest/December, 2013 Bass Digest/December, 2013 SPAIN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 Article & Images by Rob Fisher The2013BassWorldChampionshipswasheldinCordoba, Spain at Lake La Breña this year. The team flew from King Shaka airport to Dubai and then onto Madrid. A short overnight stay in Madrid was followed by a high speed train journey into the interior of Spain to Cordoba. Excitement mounted as the teams from all over the world started to arrive. Teams came from Russia, Spain, South Africa, Venezuela, France, Portugal, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Swaziland and Croatia. There were two days of practice where our team attempted to pattern a foreign body of water and make plans for the three days of competition coming up. After the first two practice days, SA had developed a good gameplan.Finallydayoneofthecompetitiondawned. It’s hard to explain the feeling of excitement, nervousness, anticipation, eagerness and everything else experienced while we were sitting on the boats waiting to head out through the buoys to compete. The First day’s weigh-in was awesome as plenty of locals had pitched up to create a very festive weigh station. The excitement was tangible when any fish over 2 kilograms was weighed. The dam is relatively new and the dam record is a 3 kilogram bass. Rob had been keeping notes of the various bag weights and we knew we needed a good bag from Shane and Greg. We fished the river section and despite the calm conditions and plenty of top water action, I found it tough to get I recently moved to Ladysmith due to work commitments and enquired about the bass fishing in the area.
