2 The Thistle December 2017 BOARD PRESIDENT JOHN WARDAs we come to the close of another year, I thought I would use my space this month to give you a sense of how we are doing and where we are heading. We continue to operate on target from a financial standpoint. We have created a sustainable operationalmodel for our now bigger Club and are meeting our budget goals. The management team, working with the Facilities Committee, has done a careful review of our capitalneeds and I am pleased to report that we should have the funds we need to continue to invest necessarycapital to maintain the Club to the standards we all expect. Some updates you can see throughout the Club, such as the living room and main dining roomrefurbishments, while other changes are less visible, such as kitchen, grounds, maintenance and HVACneeds. The unexpected can always occur, but we are in a good financial position from a capital standpoint. Our Board is now embarking on the early stages of determining what, if any, investments the membershipwould like to consider to increase overall member value. We plan to survey the membership in early 2018 togain a better understanding on what you see as our priorities for the future. We surveyed the membership several years ago prior to our decision to invest in the Member ActivityCenter. With so many new members and the different ways many of us use the Club now that Thistle Hallis in place, the Board feels it is critical to conduct a new survey. We are not committing to any investmentat this point but rather, we would like to determine where we should focus our efforts as we consider whatcomes next.In summary, we are in good shape and continue to seek ways we can improve our very special “secondhome”.I wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season and look forward to a very Happy New Year! ~ John Ward The response to the Employee Holiday Fund request hasbeen terrific. Thanks to the many that have sent in generouscontributions. There is still time to get your contribution in. Simply call Patty Mancuso at 381-1800.

3GENERAL MANAGERMICHAEL SMITH, CCM, CCE ‘TIS THE SEASON TO ENJOY THE FESTIVITIES AND GIVE THANKSThere is always a buzz of excitement throughout the Club as we prepare for the holidays. Our staff and decorating team have been busy decking the halls from top to bottom, getting us ready to celebrate theseason. We officially kicked off the holidays with our Grand Illumination Celebration, held on Sunday, November26th. For those newer to the Club, this long-standing annual tradition is a first-hand opportunity to see the Clubdecorated and lit up for the holidays. During the evening, we had carolers from Rochester Oratorio Society strollingthroughout the room, getting everyone into the holiday spirit. Families and their guests enjoyed a fantastic SundaySupper Buffet provided by Chef Kevin Ford and his culinary team. I encourage all our members to read through thismonth’s Thistle and check our regular e-mails for upcoming member events taking place over the next few weeks. It really is a fantastic time of the year to be at the Club and we look forward to seeing all of you!I would also like to take a moment to thank our members who already have or will be, contributing to this year’sHoliday Fund. The Holiday Fund, as Mr. Ward described in last month’s newsletter, is a wonderful opportunity tothank our 120 team members who do so much for us every day to make The Country Club of Rochester such aspecial place. For many of our team members, your contributions provide them the opportunity to celebrate theholidays. We are pleased to see the generosity of so many of our members who have already taken the time tosend in their Holiday Fund contribution cards. We are happy to accept contribution cards right up until the endof the year. We are really looking forward to making our employees’ seasons a little brighter by being able to givethem a little extra.
