June 2018 HAPPY CAMPER THIRTEEN YEAR OLD HEART NICOLE ESTORES FIGHTS THE GOOD FIGHT. With a short bob cut and adorable glasses, Heart Nicole Rivera Estores would immediately soften your heart. At 13 years old, she beams as the camera is aimed towards her, but is shy and soft spoken in conversation. Heart was diagnosed with Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia, and was admitted and managed medically due to febrile episodes. She is the eldest sister to two siblings who are out of school. Her father works as a salesman with GIBI, and he earns a monthly salary of P12,000, the sole earner in the family. In order to get better, Heart approached the St. Luke’s Social Service department, where she was able to become a beneficiary of the Foundation.02 S Y N E R G Y

In the work of Pam Yan-Santos, every piece is deeply personal. The work is reflective of the state of her life, or perhaps the state of her mind, or her heart—and so nothing is devoid of meaning. Whether you get it or not, it doesn’t matter—she’s putting the message out there. A lot of her work tells of her journey and musings as a mother, and her pieces have seen developments in the use of material: from quilting, to collage,SY N E R GY 05
