GUIDELINES FOR LATE SUBMISSION OF COURSE WORK (EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES) EXTENUATING NOTES CIRCUMSTANCES Normally Acceptable ‘Close’ means parents and guardians, partner or Death of a close relative spouse, children and siblings. It may include grandparents or other relatives if their relationship Serious illness of student was close. Guidance Notes for Completing this Form A. Definition of Extenuating Circumstances Extenuating circumstances are circumstances beyond your control which  Prevented you from attending an examination  Prevented you from submitting coursework on time  Adversely affected your performance. Although often medical in nature, anything which was unforeseen or unpreventable may be considered an extenuating circumstance. B. Applying for Extenuating Circumstances To apply for consideration to be given to extenuating circumstances:  Complete Section A in full  Attach any supporting evidence The completed form should be forward to the Programme manager:  For Examinations; not later than 5 working days following the examination.  For Coursework by the date when the coursework was due to be submitted. C. Outcomes If the evidence is accepted you will be given the opportunity to be assessed on a further occasion in the appropriate examination(s) coursework. Please note that a successful examination will always involve further assessment in the module(s) concerned. The examiners cannot give additional marks to compensate for extenuating circumstances.

LOUGHRY CAMPUS STUDENT IT GUIDE Welcome Welcome to CAFRE – Loughry Campus. We hope that you will make full use of all of our IT resources during your time with us. Remember we are here to help, so whatever you need to know, just ask a member of the IT staff. We are keen to ensure that our IT services are as good as they can be, so please inform us of any problems you experience or if you have any suggestions for improvements. Student Printing A4 Black/white printers are located in each suite. An A4 colour printer is available in the Library quiet room and Estate suite. All printers have duplex handling enabled to allow printing to both sides of a page. Printing charges: Students will be initially allocated £4 of print credit. You can buy further print credit from the machine in the Library (cash only). 5 pence for a single A4 page from a black & white printer, 4 pence if duplex is used. 10 pence for a single A4 page from a colour printer, 9 pence if duplex is used. NOTE: Same charge applies from colour printer even if page is in black and white. Printing transaction history and transfer of credit is available by logging into “Papercut” application available at the top of the right hand side of your desktop. Scanning A4 scanning is available in the library for all students Initial Logging on to the student network Username: CAFRE student no. eg C012345 Password The word Password plus first two digits of date of birth e.g. date of birth is 3 April 2000 then password is Password03 Domain: Cafre You will be asked to change your Password on first logon. Your password must contain at least one capital letter, one numerical character and be at least 8 characters long. A networked Personal folder is available from the drive H under my computer. By saving files to the H drive you will be able to retrieve them at your next log on, in any of the student computer suites. Internet Access In order to make use of the Internet facilities at CAFRE you must read and agree to abide by the ‘Internet and Email Usage Policy’ and complete the Induction survey within CAFRE Online.

Student Wireless Internet Access All students have access to the wireless system but should note that they must have logged on to a PC at least once to initialise their account. Wireless access points are located within the following areas: Library, GRC Classrooms, Cyber cafe, student halls of residence and sports hall. To logon follow instructions on the Intranet Virtual Learning Environment (CAFRE Online) CAFRE Online provides information in relation to educational activities at CAFRE, module materials and a mail facility. This account gives them access to a CAFRE email account, OneDrive with 1 TB of storage and more online applications. All emails sent via CAFRE Online will go to this address. Helpdesk Our helpdesk can provide information, advice and support to students on queries relating to the IT services offered at Loughry. Support can be provided via telephone, email or in person. The helpdesk is currently manned during normal working hours*, although messages may be left at any time using the voicemail facility.

Welfare and Support Services Life and study can be challenging. If you are experiencing personal, emotional, social or academic problems, you should seek support either from your college tutor or through the College counselling service. Counselling Service CAFRE provides confidential support to all students/learners attending education and training programmes. The service is available to help you in realising your full academic and personal potential. The College Student Support Officer is available at the three campuses on a weekly basis and will be able to direct and advise you on all issues relating to student support.
